Ingloriously fired from her finance job after trying to blow the whistle on her sleazy boss, Laura moves back to her hometown of Harrodsburg, KY, and immediately runs into two of her childhood friends, Emma and Alex. Emma, who has never left her hometown, is coping with a recent divorce, and Alex is reeling from the breakdown of his small business—and the smear campaign his former business partner is running. When he mentions his dreams for opening a small tea shop (dreams that have been shattered by his lost business), Emma and Laura pile one, keen to go in on the project. However, on the day of the opening, the body of Alex’s former business partner is discovered…and Alex is now the prime target. Out of loyalty to her friend, and a burgeoning romance, Laura resolves to find the killer—but can Alex be trusted?
This book is part of a trilogy and book one is right up my alley as it is about three friends who open a tea shop. Already I knew I would like it. In its 50 pages this cozy was able to draw me in and very much entertain me while I taxied from place to place. I really enjoyed it and the twist at the end was also a very nice touch. This book is a little gem!
They sort out the right ingredients to make a perfect pastry. Bakers can take the heat. They can follow the scent of the crime. So many more reasons, including authors who knead the dough. Stop! Too many bad jokes. This book is great fun and the plot is well presented, even provides a wink to a possible sequel.
Short novel that is fast paced and a delightful read. A brother, sister and best friend prepare to open a tea shop. In the meantime the past catches up with Alex Jefferson, the brother. The only one who seems to stand by him is his sister’s best friend, Laura. Not even his sister is 100% sure. Once the murderer is discovered, they vanish….are they really gone?
Enjoyed the book. Only one grammar error ( clam instead of calm). The book moved along nicely the characters wholesome with room to grow. Look forward to reading more of her crime solving adventures. Well done and keep writing.
Rife with typos, especially considering it's 50 pages. And they're just typos, not errors--certainly a quick fix. Let me know when they're fixed, and I'll adjust the rating.
After a disaster at work in the financial industry (culminating in her being fired, as it turns out), Laura moves home to KY and bumps into Emma and Alex, who reignite their childhood dream of opening a tea shop. Alex's cafe was just burned down (still under suspicion for arson), and Emma's still recovering from a failed marriage. Opening day of the tea shop arrives, and it's all systems go...until Laura's cat and her psychic hunches nudge her to check Alex's house next door...and find the body of Alex's former business partner, who'd been threatening Alex.
If Wiggle sorted the typos, I'd read a bunch of these in a row. Not really enough in a short story to drag you in, but there's certainly a foundation here.
Laura, Emma, and Emma's brother Alex have been friends since high school. Laura left town to make a splash in New York City. But she finds herself back in her hometown again.
She runs into Emma and Alex and they decide to open a tea shop like they had planned before Laura left town.
Everything is going great until Alex's old partner is found dead.
They must help the cops find the killer or Alex will be going to jail.
A great story and I am going to start the second book right now!
This was an enjoyable light cozy novella. There are interesting characters that support the plot with it's twists and turns. The main character, Laura, has a secret sixth sense that she has never told anyone about which added to the intrigue to the story. The ending didn't really leave you hanging but left enough curiosity and some insight into the sequel. I will be reading the next book in this series.
Quick fast read. I'm glad I got it on my kindle unlimited because I wouldn't have paid 99¢ for a 15 min read. It reads as a prologue not a book. It would be a great teaser at the end of a book for the next one. Yes the end of this book leaves you wanting to read the next one but only because there wasn't enough in this book to get a feel for the characters or hold an investment.
Home after her disastrous job in New York, the last thing Laura expects is to open a tea shop with her best friend Emma and her high school crush Alex. When Alex old business partner turns up dead in Alex house, can Laura use her psychic powers to determine the killer before her time runs out? Interesting characters, great storyline, short cozy mystery.
Was a Wonderful book to read! Loved all the characters in this book! Had great storyline thru out to keep you reading all of it. I would recommend this to everyone who loves a good sweet book !
Liked the book. Just wish it was a little more detailed and maybe some more details about the cat as he was also the reason for showing clues about the murder.
I like cozy mysteries and this one was no exception. It's short and sweet! Lots of talk about yummy desserts along with a murder mystery. A good little book for a couple of hours of light reading.
I liked the story line but the story was jerky and vague. Sort of unsatisfying. Seems like characters live on desserts only. Just like this story which lacked the meat and potatoes substance of information.
After being fired from her finance job in New York, Laura Benton moves back to her hometown of Harrodsburg, KY and meets up wit her childhood friends, Emma and Alex. After bonding over their failures in love and business, Alex has the idea of opening a tea shop like they talked about when they were kids. Unfortunately their grand opening is met with murder when Alex's former business partner is found dead and he is the prime suspect. Laura vows to help find the real killer, but will she lead with her head or her heart?
An enjoyable and fast paced novella, this cozy is only 50 pages and perfect for a quick read when you're not interested in getting too invested in a lengthy novel. The characters may not be as well developed as you'd like and the mystery isn't terribly difficult to figure out, but it's cute, has an adorable cover, and leaves you wanting to learn more about the people of this little town. It does lack some detail but I can't imagine it's easy packing a murder and solving it into such a small page count. It's still a great book to read at lunch or pass the time while waiting for appointments.
