As the remnants of the human race mobilize for an attack on the mutants who have taken over the abandoned cities, a small band of survivors are caught in the middle of the conflict.

Rachel Wheeler’s own mutant abilities could make her a valuable resource for the new government and the army it has formed in the wake of the apocalypse. But the people who want to take back the world have a ruthless vision for the future, and a toxic planet is unleashing its rage in the form of deadly predators. Meanwhile, the mutants are evolving at an astonishing rate and establishing a social order that defies human control. When her group is drawn into the ultimate war, Rachel must decide whether to stay loyal to the ones she loves or fight for ideals she doesn’t fully embrace.

The top of the food chain is at stake, and the extinction of the human race may not be the worst possible outcome.

Absolutely compulsive reading, Im amazed Ive not burnt out my Kindle by tapping so fast.

Just to say that "Next" is a continuation from the "after" series which Ihave to say please read this forst as you will enjoy this series so much better with all the background on the characters and world as it is.

I simply cannot put this series down Im already on the next book as I type this.

Scotts characters are so realistic and believeable, I absoloutely love Devontes devotion to Rachael through thick and thin risking his life so many times for her. So this is the 2nd book of the Next series and they continue their trecherous journey through an even more dangerous mutated Earth.

Rachel is still struggling with who she is and confused why she cant feel or not getting any communication from zaps like she had previously. Are they ignoring her or she turning back to human and so cant help anyone and she is still confused about who is right or wrong.

Meanwhile the government and military wants to attack the Zaps but still do not know much about them and all the time the ever evolving mutants are roaming the earth and some can even start to heal themselves.

I cannot express enough if you love apocalyptic reads you will find Scotts books are so unique and have so much originality to any other apocalyptic books Ive EVER read...yep Im TOTALLY addicted!!

After a cosmic event has mostly destroyed earth, turning many survivors into mutants known as Zaps, the surviving unaffected humans gear up for an assault on the cities, now held by the Zaps. In the middle of this war of extinction, a small band of survivors is only trying to do just that—survive.
Rachel Wheeler, part human, part mutant, is feared by both sides, but when her group is drawn into what could be the final battle for humanity’s survival, she must decide whether to stay loyal to those she loves or fight for a cause she doesn’t fully believe in.
Earth Zero by Scott Nicholson is the second book in the post-apocalyptic Next series. In this story, the mutants have evolved the framework of a function society, but under the leadership of perpetual babies who are without maturity or moral compass, while the remnants of human society are in isolated bands worldwide, many having descended into anarchy. Unlike the first book, which focused primarily on Rachel, the main protagonist, this book shifts viewpoint several times to other characters, which can cause a bit of confusion.
It is still an interesting and provocative read.

Another excellent book in this great post-apocalyptic series. This is a continuation series. The first series is After and I highly recommend listening to that series first, otherwise you'll miss the back story of the characters and how this post-apocalyptic world came to be. I've said this about the previous series but Scott Nicholson writes a great and original story. Zapheads are not your typical "zombie". Solar storms have "zapped" the brains of some of humanity turning them into zombie-like creatures. Unlike zombies, the zapheads evolve and the younger infants are smart and dangerous! Both series are great and definitely worth checking out. Kevin Clay does a great job in both series! He's a great narrator with great talent! He's good with all the different male and female characters. I'd definitely recommend checking out some of his other work as well.

And the saga continues

Earth Zero continues the journey on the new earth plagued by Zaps. In this episode you get the feeling that maybe there will be a rebellion but e rebellion between who I'm not sure.

Rachel and Devonte continue their journey through a mutated and very dangerous Earth. Rachel being half-Zap is not helping them much. She is not enough human to help and not enough Zap to communicate with them. Meanwhile the government, aka military wants to attack the Zaps before they get any stronger and are trying to come up with a plan. The military still knows next to nothing about the Zaps, so it’s pretty difficult to come up with something that will work based upon…nothing. Rachel still faces her internal conundrum of who to support and which way is right; Zaphead or human. Three.point.five for the effort.
