Falling Deeper

Rate this book
EMBERKayson Williams stole my heart in an instant with his charm and dimpled smirk. We were just kids, but we fell hard, we fell fast, and we fell deep. It was perfect...until it wasn't. I fought hard for him, for us, while he set out to ruin it all. He hid behind our relationship, masked the pain with our love, but never stopped falling. Until one day he decided we weren't enough anymore and threw us away. He tossed us and the future we were building aside. As time passed I started to heal. The shattered pieces of my heart, the jagged pieces of my soul, started to mend. I lived and laughed without him. Found each day easier to breathe. Until one day, four years later, he stormed back into my life like a hurricane.KAYSONEmber Martinez was like a burst of color in my dull and desolate world. Timid and shy yet full of life and love, she brightened each day and gave me a reason. A reason to live, a reason to love, a reason to care. She tried to heal me even when she didn't know how truly broken I was. She shattered the front I gave to the world and loved me for me. No matter how many times I fucked up. But as much as I wanted and needed her, I still felt like I was drowning. I still let my demons darken my soul. So I made a decision that wrecked me and almost ended me. I had to let her go. No matter how tightly she wanted to hold on, I had to break the hold to save her from me. Then when the unimaginable happens, four years later, I can't stay away any longer. My weakness tore us apart, but her strength brought us together. We were fated to fall and together we keep falling deeper.

This one started off with a bang, which had me hooked from word one. The author certainly didn't pull any punches or sugar-coat Kayson's issues which made me a happy girl. This starts off as NA with them meeting up in high school, through a separation which then brings them back together again.

The story is good, I love me some separation when it's justified and in this case it definitely was, without being over angsty. And I got a good grovel, she made him work for it.

This really needed a good editor to tighten up the writing and weed out some of the more wordy bits. I also wanted Ember to stop with her tears - she pretty much cried all the way through the book.

This was dual POV, and a nice little tease for the next book which I am looking forward to reading. A great start for a debut author.

I saw this book through a "help me figure out the title" Facebook page. It sounded super interesting, and I was anxious to find out the title. Once that mystery was solved, I downloaded Falling Deeper. It started out pretty well. I liked Ember, I liked Kayson. They were great at the beginning. The sheer number of times the word "smirk" was used was annoying, but it was easy enough to overlook because the plot was good.

As the story unfolded, however, I became more and more frustrated with the characters. As someone who has dealt with enabling and addiction, I understand how you want to help, and when you love someone, you don't want to abandon them during their addiction. However, at some point, you have to put yourself first. I was bothered by how often Ember overlooked the drug use by Kayson. I was especially bothered that Ember's mother overlooked it (as a mother, you don't want your 16/17 year old child to be exposed to this, so I would expect her to try to talk her daughter out of that relationship), especially knowing that her own husband was in jail. When they finally split, I thought this was the healthiest thing for both of them.

Four years later, Kayson is clean. Ember is teaching (I'm not sure how in four years, she finished her last year of high school, went through college, and is already 6 months into teaching; timelines are important to me, and this just didn't align) and endures a school shooting. This pulls Kayson to come home and reconnect with Ember.

I appreciated that he felt the need to check on Ember and wanted to get back together. My biggest issue is that, with the exception of sobriety, I didn't see any change in Kayson's behavior. He was still angry and yelled. He was still jealous. And Ember hadn't grown up much either. She still gave in to whatever Kayson wanted. I also felt as if the ending was really rushed; I didn't feel satisfied with the loose ends like school shooting were tied up (I know it was kind of mentioned, but it was still too loose for me).

I know it seems like I didn't like this book, but I really loved the idea of the plot. I love that it dealt with addiction and second chances, as well as tackling a tough situation of a school shooting. I think that this book had a lot of potential, but it just didn't work for me.

Hooked

It's kinda interesting how I discovered this book. Someone was asking in a group about a book where they knew the plot but not the title or author. After someone figured it out, and after reading the blurb, I was hooked. Then I read the book the same day and I absolutely glad I did!!
This novel by this author has hit me in all the feels. Wow!!!! This book was just beautiful. It deals with a heavy subject in such a great way. Kayson(love that name) and Ember had a tough road to their HEA. There was lots of heartbreak and turmoil. Experiencing their journey was an emotional rollercoaster but I completely enjoyed the ride.
An amazing introduction for me to this author.

For me, this book by Lucia Grace was just an ok read. It had a good strong start and caught my interest quickly. I had a hard time reading about Kayson.  His behavior and treatment of Ember totally alienated him from me while reading this book. And I had a hard time reading Ember. I wanted her to be strong and tell Kayson to leave her alone, but I empathized with her need to  hold on to him. It hurt my heart to read all her emotion and pain even while I was mad at her for just taking whatever he threw at her. The storyline was enjoyable. It flowed well and was quick and easy to follow. I enjoyed the glimpses of the side characters and look forward to book two about Tracey and Damon.

The beginning started off great. Ember did exactly what anyone would do in love. She dough and protected and forgave but sometimes there comes a time when the darkness drags you host and you have to chose. The one part I didn't care for was she seemed string but weak. She cried like a half of the book and I wanted to shake her and tell her to suck it up. She has a wonderful support system and Kayson needed to figure out his life. But all in all I enjoyed it. It leaves you with a hea and a tidbit of what to expect in Damon's book.

Skipped through the last few pages... I wanted to slap the heroine for the many times she cries "hysterically" and the many times she "blushed". Guess this book just wasn't for me.

After reading the awesome "Everything I Need" by Lucia Grace, I quickly checked for other books by her. Seems that Falling Deeper is her debut novel, I read the reviews and although I was abit apprehensive I still 1-Click (it's only 99¢) and set about to read it.

Now that I've done, I understand the gripes about this novel and yes, I do find Ember weepy as fuck and she's so bloody annoying with her tears. Kayson is self-centered SOB but he does have his moments of being a cool dude. I'm giving Lucia Grace a pass with this novel as it's a debut novel and it shows. The words written came across as cringe-worthy at times and her immaturity (as far as her writing skills) are shown pretty glaringly in this novel. Not sure why Lucia Grace need to use 2 similar names for her characters. Ember (the h) and Amber (the friend) ... wouldn't it better to use another name?

I do commend her about showing how difficult it was for an addict to keep a straight line. How very easy for them to go back to the dark path. Also, I do understand how the young Ember kept on forgiving Kayson and letting him steamrolled her. I was that girl once, when you thought you're so deep in love with the first love of your life, you just cannot pull yourself away.

I'm glad that Lucia Grace's writing skills as improved by leaps and bounds. If you haven't read "Everything I Need", do yourself a favour and get it. "Falling Deeper" is an okay book and a decent debut.

Heart-clenching. Soul capturing. Tummy fluttering. That about sums it up. This book is one that grabs your heart and refuses to let go until the end. I am not even sure that I have received it back yet and I am 24 hours post Kayson and Ember. There is nothing like reading someone’s first published work and I have to say if I hadn’t known that tidbit before I started to read I would not have known it was Ms. Lucia’s first published book.

Kayson. Oh. My. Lordy. Kayson f-ing Williams. Football player. Panty-melter. Alpha male tendencies. And like all the ones worth fighting for, demons that threaten his very existence. That threaten to consume him at his weakest points. They will threaten the very thing that keeps him in the light at all.

Ember. My sister in spirit. Shy. Good natured. Simple. Loving. My heart soars to have such a true and realistic shy girl. She is the most convincing character I have ever read. Lucia depicted her perfectly. The best way to describe her is through Shakespeare. “Though she but little she is fierce.” Especially as we see her grow and survive all the traumatic experiences she will lead us through.

Saying this book is about high school sweetheart would not do the book justice. Their love is not a high school love. It is a forever love. Their issues they face are not high school issues. They are adult issues. It is beautiful and heartbreaking in the same beat to see them go through the trials Kayson’s demons.

This book is just the beginning for Miss Lucia. Just the tip of the Iceberg. She has already proven that she can grab the attention of her readers and I have no doubt she will follow through and continue to consume our souls through her words.

Ember and Kayson are high school sweethearts who love each other but Kayson has a drug problem. This book shows how drugs can effect your life and the ones who love you. We skip to four years later with Kayson clean and sober trying to win Ember back and she has a secret herself and when it comes out it almost sends Kayson back to his addictive ways but he and Ember work things out and try to repair their relationship.

Heroine

I am sure the story was good but I don't understand why authors keep promoting that having big chest and curvy ass are banging bodies. This is a YA story and having a teenage daughter, I think some authors promote that if you don't have those two qualities, guys will not notice you. To me this is a big fail and I refuse stories, glorifying those assets in girls/women. I returned the book.

Falling Deeper

Wow, this book is intense, but so much honesty, true emotion, touches on real life issues, happenings, you will laugh, cry, feel their sadness, heartache, love, so much LOVE! Kayson and Ember met in high school, and grew as friends with an attraction/ chemistry like no other, but as fate would have it, injuries, drugs, pasts, memories, family comes into play. Take their journey with them, you won't be sorry, beautiful, awesome love story❤️❤️❤️.

This book is really good. I love it and the characters. They grew with age that showed each of their troubles that they faced together. Some parts really sad and I cried ...a lot

This was one of those books that swept you along on a tidal wave of emotions. There was no pussy footing around Kayson's issues and I felt they were written in very real terms.
I eagerly await book 2 but I truly hope that Tracy does not cry even a fraction as much as Ember did. It became annoying after the first hundred times.

Really enjoyed the story of Ember and Kayson, we follow them right from the day they first met. They have a rollercoaster of a relationship. The characters draw you in and keep you turning those pages to find out if they get there happy ever after.

Umm...

Now sure about the message this book sends. The main character is an absolute ass to the girl and she just keeps coming back for more. I wish it would have started differently because the ending was good.

I wanted to give this more than 3 stars but I felt for the majority of the book Ember had no self-respect, as she willingly staying in an unhealthy relationship (we know how much she loved Kayson!) but that does not excuse how dreadfully he treated her!

Good book that kept me wanting to turn each page. Read similar plotlines before, but the two main characters were written well and extremely likeable. Some angst and lots of romance, so all in all a good read.
