An average book meant for kids who can read. it does not ask for too much load on your mind.. and it actually simplifies all the gret Indian tales which we an average Indian kid grows up on.. so on an overall I won't suggets you this book but you can give it to your lil nephews & nieces.. Most of the stories I was aware of.. and probably I knew different & better versions of them. This is one book I read & thought that even I could have written this book just sitting for probably 2-3 hrs on a Sunday afternoon or on a weekend holiday.

Now this perspective of mine itself shows that the author really didn't put much effort.. so if u can write it why wud u read it.. huuhhh

There are very few books which have disappointed me to the core, and this book is definitely tops the list.
- First, the stories are very very very short, like no content at all. Even children of 8 yr old will get bored by the stories written in this book.
- Second, There is nothing about Indian Heroes, Heroines, their adventures as the book's back cover says.
- Quality of the paperback - very poor.
- So both quality and quantity of the content is very poor, I can't imagine why is it priced so high ? I wanted to kill myself considering why did I choose this book in the first place for buying !!

Interesting small little fables for your childhood or if you are the explorer of the world of fables and folk lores. True to its words the book travels through different styles of folks thus gathering India's culture, rituals, ethics and morals imbibed together.

Indian Tales by Romila Thapar.

This book is a collection of 16 short stories from Indian mythology, history, and regional folk tales. The stories are the retelling of  Indian heroes and heroines, their adventures, misfortunes and triumphs, gods and demons and of animals, and this has been told to generations of children over the years. As it is a short book no wonder that it will have short stories, but few of them are too short. Some of the stories from this book do have a novel based on them.

The author has nicely narrated each and every story. Each story has something to learn from. I haven’t read Indian Mythology before this and so I chose this book as it was a short read, and yes after reading it I think that I will get some long reads from Indian Mythology now.

This book is recommended to avid readers and Kids as the stories are very very short. Also anyone can pick this book for a daily dosage of morals and values.

Most of the stories were quite disappointing and had no point or meaning to them whatsoever, or if they had it was so trivial that is not even noteworthy. What I liked best about this book were the drawings. That's it.
