This book is a collection of Charlotte Moon's letters and writings (as per the title). Charlotte Moon was an American missionary to China from 1873-1912 (the year of her death). She was highly educated, an incredible linguist (she spoke fluently English, French, Italian, and Chinese and could easily work in Latin, Greek, and Hebrew texts), a fantastic writer, and an amazing example of what it means to follow the Great Commission without thought for self. She was also one of the very first single female missionaries sent out from America, and she's got a very interesting perspective on why singleness is beneficial to the mission enterprise, particularly for women. The only reason I give this book four stars instead of five is because it is so poorly edited! There's not a single explanatory footnote in the whole book, which can make it hard to understand or follow at times. I suggest reading it with or directly after a good biography of Moon, like The New Lottie Moon Story by Catherine Allen.
