She refuses to give into her nature. He’s built tough walls around desire. Will they survive the heat of a scorching affair?
Adelle Constance buries her feelings for good reason. Despite needing her sister to rescue her from her vampire ex, the half-blood siren doesn’t dare risk unleashing her own terrifying powers. But she hates being saddled with a cranky fire-breathing guardian to teach her the art of control.

But as he teases out her supernatural song, he’s stunned to discover the headstrong girl sneaking past his emotional defenses.
While mastering her long-suppressed abilities, Adelle is startled to discover the beautiful heart of gold that lies beneath her teacher’s gruff, scaly exterior. And with bloodthirsty enemies hellbent on killing his precious charge, Jack fears he’s about to lose his love all over again.
Is their irresistible bond powerful enough to withstand the onslaught of evil?

Review: Paranormal romance books and I don't always get along. I dislike a lot of the common tropes and cliches, especially when it comes to sex and gender. But I wanted to try this one, even though I wasn't sure it'd be my kinda thing, because a) dragon and siren, and b) the audiobook is narrated by Michael Ferraiuolo. And I say all this not to bash romance but to let everyone else who might be interested but hesitant know that you should give this book a try! It ended up being something I enjoyed (along with the next two books in the series)! It wasn't entirely cliche-free, but it felt fairly believable with a romance that took some time to progress and wasn't just about sex. It was a bit silly at times, but not in a way that hurt the story. It was a fun book.
I loved that this was about a dragon and a siren. Two supernaturals for the price of one! And ones that you don't see that often in books. I like that this author actually based her sirens on the Greek mythology version that are like birds, even though it didn't really matter, since Adelle was half-siren and only had a human form. But anyway, her magic was based around singing, screaming, using her voice. I also liked this authors version of dragons! Jack was full dragon, so he could shift into dragon form. Dragons in this world also have hoards, and Jack's love of shiny glass bottles and broken bits of glass was adorable.
I liked the characters and their romance, but I didn't feel super invested in them. Adelle was kind of one of those heroines who didn't have much personality beyond being feisty and kind. Jack was kind of grumbly and protective. I like that their romance took a bit of time, that they got to know each other some, but I didn't feel a ton of chemistry between them. They were the kind of characters and romance that I'm not going to keep thinking about but that were fun while reading/listening.
There was also a plot about people kidnapping Adelle, and there's a bigger plot that connects all the books (even though each one focuses on a different sister) about a cabal of mages up to no good, so I do recommend reading these in order.
The audiobook narration by Michael Ferraiuolo was great, but that was no surprise because he's my favorite narrator. He sounded natural and realistic, adding in extra emotion and acting where necessary. Characters were easy to tell apart because Ferraiuolo is great at doing different voices. He's also good at female voices, making them sound feminine without sacrificing the natural quality of his narration. He used what I thought was a good Scottish accent for Jack, but I'm not an expert on Scottish accents. And I felt all the voices suited the characters.
Overall, this was a cute paranormal romance. A little silly sometimes, but with a nice romance, interesting supernatural creatures and abilities, and a fun story.
*Even though each book in this series focuses on different characters, I recommend reading them in order, or you might be lost in regards to some plot elements and character/relationship backgrounds.*
Recommended For: Anyone who likes series that focus on different but connected couples in each book, uncommon supernaturals, and paranormal romance with a balance of realism and silly fun.
DNF at 71%. I should’ve stopped at the point in the book where he calls her a “crazy bitch”. There is almost no time or excuse for a “hero” to call his heroine a bitch. I say “almost” because maybe there would be a time, but I can’t imagine it.
I wanted to like this book. And for the beginning, I did. This woman is almost killed by an ex. And her sister wants her to get out of town and safe while she hunts the ex down and takes care of him. The sister is a badass Valkyrie and can do it.
The heroine ends up staying with a hot dragon shifter who will protect her. And he has some cute traits… like he collects glass bottles. One of the cutest interactions is him gazing at a St Germain bottle (look it up, it IS pretty) and wanting it sooo much and her later giving it to him.
Sadly, the weaknesses in this book are overpowering the strengths.
This hot dragon dated her cousin… okay, that’s a bummer, but it can happen. But the author decides that the entire sexual history the dragon has with the cousin is given to the heroine. Why would the author make that choice? It’s disturbing!
The cousin turns out to be pretty villainous, but somehow she’s just a side story. Strange. She pretty much mind rapes the hero and then it’s just brushed past with no consequences for the cousin.
But what really got me was the terrible and immature fighting. The main characters are attracted to each other. The hero has stated he just wants a fling and the heroine has said she’s not okay with a fling. She’ll get too attached. The hero backs off, but still is super sweet to her. After 5 days of the heroine not flirting and joking with the hero anymore, he starts off worried and thinks she’s sick. When she makes it clear that she’s upset, he ends up telling her she’s acting like a crazy bitch.
What!? It just has that flavor of “if you don’t act the way I want you to, I’ll start treating you like crap”. And the worst part is the self flagellation the heroine does of thinking she’s responsible for their fight and for treating him badly. She withdrew after an emotional hit where she wants more and he doesn’t. And he expects her to just get over it. And so does the author.
He actually withdraws his protection and she almost gets captured at this point because he is not with her for the first time when her ex approaches her again.
It’s not too long before they really are together. But somehow, I am not with them anymore. I feel like this author does not understand how healthy people fight and that calling your partner a bitch for fairly normal behavior isn’t cool! The heroine could have fought better as well. She tells him that his nickname for her is “stupid”. She could just say “I feel bummed that you’re calling me this sweet pet name but don’t want a relationship”. But the heroine isn’t mature.
I was just tired of reading. It lost the sparkle for me with that fight and I cannot keep going.
I fell in love with this book when I realized the plot revolves around consent and communication. Seriously, there's nothing sexier. The characters are so identifiable as people we know, while not being cliche's or tropes. This makes the book fun and keeps us engaged. Cynthia's first in the series, she builds an exciting world similar to ours but just different enough to make me want to visit! Luckily, there are now four in the series! Hooray!
Once Upon a Time there were three sisters, adopted by an ex-nun who wanted to keep the humans safe from the Wyrd world. So she adopted three half-blood girls and set about training them for when their powers manifested. The eldest daughter was named Valerie and was half-valkyrie, the second daughter, named Adelle was a half-siren, and the youngest, Phoebe, who had not yet manifested her powers was a half-dryad. Then their adopted mother was killed and they had to do it alone.
Adelle is terrified of her powers because she doesn’t know how to control them except to remain utterly calm. When she’s emotional all she knows to do is suppress every sound because when she doesn’t she can level buildings. When she’s kidnapped and held for 5 days by an ex-boyfriend and his fellow vampires because siren blood is addictive she doesn’t use her powers to free herself. When Val finds her she sends her away because she won’t protect herself because she’s scared of hurting innocents.
Adelle goes to a small town in Washington State where her mind-mage cousin lives. Within a short period of time the cousin she's staying with has fobbed her off onto her ex-boyfriend, Jack the old and grumpy dragon and Jack and Adelle try to make the most of it.
One of the things I liked about this book was that things were spread out. Time passed and things didn’t happen right on top of each other. Adelle needs that time to transform herself and for her relationship with Jack to develop slowly. Both those things take a good deal of time, because both Adelle and Jack are stubborn.
I also like how it’s not just meeting Jack that makes Adelle want to change, it’s how she’s been sent away for her own safety and having to rely on her sister all the time to get her out of trouble. She knows what she is doing isn’t working and that it certainly isn’t healthy to suppress her feelings for so long, but she just can’t see another way, until Jack tries something different.
Jack is a great character. He’s 900 years old and very set in his ways. He’s supportive, funny and grumpy all rolled into one. He’s also apparently big and gorgeous. I like how their relationship started out being pretty annoyed at being stuck with each other and evolved slowly over time. So often we get insta-lust/love in these kinds of books and sometimes you just want watch something transform.
I liked this story because it’s not often we see a magical character being terrified of their powers, nor one that has had to suppress themselves so completely to stop themselves harming others. Unreeling all that damage was interesting to read about, especially as we learn about the Wyrd world in which all the characters live.
I also like the relationship between the three sisters, which involves bickering, love and shoving each other into doing the right thing.
The plot is interesting, with an old friend becoming an arch-nemesis and threatening their home town. This is a plot that will evolve over the series, rather than getting resolved in this one book, but it gives the book direction and gives it structure. This book is mainly about Adelle coming into her own and finding Jack, but it’s really well done.
I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series, which I believe is more about Val.
Full of adventure, romance, danger, magic, strong characters and a mission to save the world, I couldn't put this book down for long. This is the story of one of three adopted sisters that is half siren, half human, and fears hurting the innocent if she uses her untrained talents. But when the mage that killed her mother wants a piece of her song for black magic and will stop at nothing to get it, she must seek protection and help to learn control. Could an ex-boyfriend of her cousin that just happens to be a dragon help? I loved this story and have just purchased the next 2 books of the series.
Have just discovered this author and I have to say how impressed I am. I loved this book, and can't wait to read the next book. Adelle and Jack, the perfect combination. This book had it all, drama, action, romance and a HEA. Adelle is hiding with her cousin Wendy, but Wendy pushes Adelle on to her ex boyfriend Jack and this is where things get really interesting. Adelle is a siren, Jack is a dragon and the adventure begins. Would recommend this book to friends and family.
Adelle is a half-Siren terrified of her powers. After being tortured by her vampire ex-boyfriend she goes to live with a cousin until things blow over a bit. Her cousin pawns her off to dragon Jake. Adelle is not thrilled with the whole situation but tries to make the most of it. Jack is not pleased that his ex Wendy tricked him into vowing his protection but he soon becomes accustomed to Adelle's presence. He works to help her control her powers so that she will be able to defend herself. Which is a good thing because there are some worse things after her then a couple vampires.
This was really fun to read. Adelle was sassy and stubborn but not to the extent that she put herself in dangerous situations just to prove how tough she is. Jack was a grumpy dragon that has a flirtatious side but is also a complete gentleman. They were great together, there was plenty of banter that never seemed forced. I also liked the relationship between Adelle and her sisters it was a bit over the top but not to the point it was unbelievable. The story itself was interesting and I just wish there was a little more information about the Wyrd, their history and their laws.
So I generally like urban fantasy novels with romance, and I've been known to like steampunk fantasy novels with romance. So I decided to give a romance novel with urban fantasy elements a try. Sadly I can say that it really isn't my cup of tea, but thankfully this book helped me realized that while giving me an enjoyable read.
Siren's Song follows two adorable fantasy characters, following almost all the romantic tropes you could ask for, if you were asking for them, which sadly I wasn't. It left me smacking my head over the characters misunderstanding each other, and being annoyed at their obvious want just to screw each other into utter bliss and yet deciding not to. But the key point here is that I cared enough about the characters to feel for them, even if I didn't want to.
Ever wondered how a dragon and a siren do it? Here's a hint: Loudly.
I am curious, I admit, to see what a sequel brings, however. If it proves to balance the romance/adventure aspects a bit more, I'd love to see more of the two main characters interacting, perhaps with more stable relationship.
I’m not the romance reading type, even if it’s paranormal romance, but I’m a writer who dabbles in different genres, so once in a while, I like to branch out when I pick up a new book. Siren Song surprised me. It was fast-paced, funny, and the sexy moments (in my best southern belle accent) gave me the vapors! There all sorts of characters, from a dragon named Jack, who can transform into the beefcake human type male, to junkie vampires, even an off-shore merman tattoo artist. The sisters, Adelle, the half-siren, Valerie, a Valkyrie, and Phoebe, the fairy, have a mission to help keep things in order in our world, which gets them into loads of trouble with servants of someone named Shadow, who wants the song of the siren, in which Adelle is the target. For years, Adelle has not learned to use her own powers until Jack comes into her life and through his teachings, brings out her inner strength. (Among other things, mind you.) All-in-all, Siren Song: Wyrd Love is a very entertaining read!
I love Diamond's sense of humor and her writing style. Siren's Song is the first in her Wyrd Love series, and the first in a trio of books about the Constance sisters, all of whom are half-human. In this case, Adelle's other half is Siren and she's not terribly happy about it. It takes being kidnapped by vampires, fleeing the state, and meeting Jack (a 900 year old Scottish dragon, thankyouverymuch) for her to finally come to terms with her powers and begin to get them under control. Diamond writes the perfect combination of contemporary urban fantasy and paranormal romance, with a little thriller/suspense thrown in. Her characters are funny and complex, and her level of snark is exactly right. Siren's Song is wonderfully escapist reading, and I am looking forward to the next 2 books and getting to know the other two Constance sisters better.
I thought the story was well written. It has a nice steady pace to keep the story moving along. Jack and Adelle are likable and have great chemistry. Ethan is a piece of work, and Anthony that wants Adelle? The story pulled me in wanting to know what was going on, so had to read it till the end. I thought is was a good story and hope to read more from the author. Got as a giveaway on Goodreads for an honest review. Thank you for sharing your book with me.
This grew on me as I read. Jack's grumpy but not an ass. Adelle's reasonably realistic. I'm a bit unclear on exactly what she and her sisters are doing, and why Jack can't get involved, but I just ran with it. Jack being a genuinely good guy who was ok with emotions bumped this up to 4 stars from 3 for me.
Oh, and no instalove! YAY!!! I actually thought, at the end of the book, that they'd last as a couple.
This book is full of adventure, snark, and passionate romance. Everything I look for in a good book, and this book is very good. The plot is interesting and the characters well developed and likable. It is the first book in a series that seems like it should be read in order. I am off to read the second book of the series. Hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.
I really loved this. The sexual tension between Adelle and Jack was perfectly paced. The world building was very well done as well. This is a great start to what I can only guess will be a fun series. I loved spending time with these characters, and I wasn't to spend more time with them. If I were to compare this to something else, I'd go with True Blood meets the Hollows books by Kim Harrison.
I have never read a book quite like Siren's Song. It is a fantasy with its cast of Wyrd, half Wyrd and human characters and yet is also a love story and an adventure. The book can be read stand alone. However, after reading about Adelle, the siren, I would like to continue with the story of her sister Valerie, the Valkyrie and the mystery surrounding the mages.
I had no idea how much I wanted a smoking hot dragon/ man as a hero! I'm thrilled to discover Diamond's Wyrd Love world. This book was really entertaining and fun, and I'm looking forward to reading more in the series.
Great constant pace to the story with no jumping plot lines in the middle of chapters (THANK YOU). Well developed characters that pulled me in. And now I want a dragon!
Excellent start to a really lovely series— I so badly wish I had the same knack for dialogue! Scottish dragon meets So Cal halfling, and the boots will soon be a’knockin’!
Audiobook: I was entertained by this story. This was my first experience with this author's work, and it won't be my last. I admired the worldbuilding which included many types of paranormal beings including, but not limited to, vampires, a dragon, a siren, and beings that were mixtures of human and other. I liked the characters Jack and Adelle and their rocky path to love. There were some steamy moments. I enjoyed the flashes of humor found in the dialogue and in some of the events described. I thought Michael Ferraiuolo's narration was great as his performance kept my attention, plus I enjoyed his Scottish accent for the voice for Jack. I was gifted a copy of the audiobook through Spotify. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which included my honest opinions regarding this story.
3.5 stars. A lot of typos brought down the vibes, and the jokes seemed a little out-of-the-blue at times. Like it’s not meant to be a comedy, and their relationship isn’t really all that banter-y, except sometimes when it is. It’s a sort of grumpy/grumpy pairing where the FMC is afraid of her powers and the MMC kinda doesn’t do anything except exist and put her in a forest far away from other people to practice and then all of a sudden her powers are fine. 🤷🏻♀️ I mean there’s a couple scenes of them practicing over a couple months but it’s not like he gives her any helpful advice or there’s some breakthrough… she just does the thing. Eventually. It’s a decent series starter and the FMC’s sisters are interesting enough.
Firstly I absolutely luuuuurved this book!!! The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because of all the spelling mistakes! There are loads of he instead of she, missing words and sentences that don’t make sense. But I still loved it! Adelle lives with her two sisters and is a half siren. Her screams and singing can break glass, collapse buildings and kill people. When something bad happens to her she goes to stay with her cousin Wendy. Wendy fobs her off on her ex boyfriend a sexy dragon Jack. Jack helps Adelle with her powers and falls in love with her. The story continues in book two Valerie’s story and I can’t wait!
Tired plot? Jack is deliciously wicked. Pointless side characters that serve no point? He ran out of the house in his underwear and carted her home over his shoulder. Villains suck? He's a dragon. Story doesn't know where to end? Again big beautiful red dragon.
