Well this was it, the final book in the Three Investigators series. I've now read them all. This last volume wasn't bad as it dealt with movies and special effects and had more females involved than usual, so at least the series went out on a high note.

I loved these books when I was a kid, as I was always a 3I guy moreso than a Hardy Boys guy. If you look back at the series it really was a great run. Just imagine if someone's life was truly as exciting as the Three Investigators and all the adventures they had! I hate to see it end, but I recommend it to anyone who enjoys mysteries and it's especially great for young boys. Just a great series overall.

Einer meiner ersten Folgen, unvergesslich diese lauten Computertasten sowie der Holloway 2000 Song. Und Lys und Justus Kennenlernen ist schon süss mit ihrem Random Facts Abtausch.

It's meh. It's an interesting look into early computers, and a bit of behind-the-scenes moviemaking, but overall it's boring. There are all the typical Crimebusters elements (cars, the boys working on cars, car chases, two girls only show up to nag Pete and Bob about going out, and whine when the boys can't join them [there's one more female character that's literally named 'Qute', cute; did the author think very hard about this or what], namedropping martial arts moves, rampant fatphobia towards Jupiter and the bad guy) with not much deducing to speak of. The only vaguely smart part was when Jupiter pretended to be a cat to throw Norton Rome off their scent. It makes perfect sense that this is the same author as Reel Trouble, which had a similar-ish plot and was just as boring.

This is technically the very last Three Investigators book that exists (not counting the million extra German books I can't read), but it's not my last book with the boys, I've got two more to go (Shoot the Works and The Cranky Collector).

Four stars may be a bit generous but this one contains some snappy writing, especially in the beginning. At times, though, the dialogue starts to unravel and seems a bit like an adult trying to sound like a kid, maybe even a woman trying to sound like a man. Not that none of that can't be done by a strong writer, but it does miss the mark on occasion. Nevertheless, with this one, I can finally say at age 55, I have completed the entire Three Investigators series of books -- fifty something in all. Wish there were more!

Ein Fall, den ich früher echt schrecklich fand, jetzt aber ganz okeh.
Die drei Fragezeichen interagieren in diesem Fall sehr gut, allerdings ist er mir insgesamt ein bisschen zu "mädchenlastig". Das soll nicht heißen, dass mir Kelly und Liz nicht sympathisch wären (mittlerweile habe ich mitbekommen, dass vor allem Kelly wohl nicht so beliebt ist bei den Drei-???-Fans...), aber dieses ewige Beziehungsgehopse ist ein bisschen zu viel. Wenigstens taucht nun Lys auf, bei der Justus "landen" darf. (Schade, dass die nicht mehr dabei ist, die war mir immer am sympathischsten von allen dreien.)

Der Fall an sich entwickelt sich ganz gut ("Monster! Aus! Aus!!"), allerdings ist auch hier der Schluss ein bisschen hoppi-galoppi und nicht wirklich logisch. Schön auch, dass es einer der "Lehr-Folgen" ist, bei der der Zuhörer (und ich denke mal, auch der Leser) über neue technische Sachverhalte unterrichtet wird. Das gibt es so auch in "Geheimakte Ufo" (da wird das Internet erklärt), und - aber nicht so extrem - in "Das Hexenhandy", wo man über bestimmte Funktionen von Mobiltelefonen aufgeklärt wird. :-)

Alles in allem aber eine Folge, die nicht unbedingt im Gedächtnis bleibt - ausser vielleicht der Name Norton Rome und die hohen weißen Tennisschuhe. Daran kann ich mich erinnern. :-)

Irgendwie relevant weil Lys hier zum ersten Mal erwähnt wird. Ansonsten kann man den Fall eher in die Tonne kloppen.

Ach, und Bob in den 90er Büchern ist einfach grausam. Nur schon allein seine Erklärung an Justus, warum sie alle auf Mädchen stehen ist... wie gesagt, einfach nur grausam. Ich bin so froh, dass sich die deutschen Autoren von dieser Phase seiner Charakterisierung nur den charmanten Mädchenschwam-Teil abgeschaut haben und nicht den Rest.

Die Idee der Geschichte war super spannend und fesselnd, aber leider war nach der Hälfte des Buches klar, wer der Täter war. Die zweite Hälfte des Buches bestand dann nur noch aus der Suche des Täters, die sich leider nicht so spannend gestaltete.

Pech für die drei ??? – ein Computervirus hat Dateien aus ihrem Rechner gelöscht! Doch damit nicht genug, fordert ein anonymer Erpresser über den Bildschirm die Summe von 5 Millionen Dollar. Bei ihren Ermittlungen stoßen Justus, Bob und Peter auf eine bekannte Filmfirma für Spezialeffekte. Dort stellt sich schnell heraus, daß der Erpresser und Datenkiller vor keinem Mittel zurückschreckt, um die drei Detektive bei ihren Nachforschungen zu behindern.
So werden sie beinahe ermodert durch herunter fallende Requisiten.
Am Ende stellt sich sber heraus, dass es einer der ITler der Firma war.

Ich muss sagen, eine Sache die mich immer an den drei ??? gestört hat ist, dass alle auf einmal immer eine Waffe haben. Aber vielleicht ist das auch einfach die USA.
Insgesamt war die Folge eher mittelmäßig.
Schön war aber, dass die Freundinnen von Bob und Peter so in Vordergrund standen.

I thought this was the best of the Crimebusters books.
The first 4 were not as good and then I think they slowly got better with each book after that. In this book Jupiter was more like his original self, coming up with theories and plans instead of just letting things happen and reacting to them like in the first few Crimebuster books. Although they mentioned Jupiter’s dieting and weight they didn’t overplay it like they did in the earlier Crimebuster books. The author’s finally seemed to be getting comfortable with the characters. I also liked that they mentioned BBS, something I was into at the time the book was written when I was around the character’s ages.
