Mike Evans Gabriel: Only one gets out alive In 2013 terrorists struck the Chicago Marathon. It took more than just people; it took their peace of mind and security for the entire country. For Jacob August it took his entire family. After the bombing his life was changed forever. Abandoning his parents' dreams for him of medical school, he became America's most deadly CIA assassin. No one was safe from Gabriel, Jacob's working persona. Exhausted of being let down by the CIA, Gabriel went independent. He became a killer for hire with one exception; he still had morals. Now 10 years later Gabriel has been reunited with the CIA yet again to stop those that plan to cripple America to an end. Gabriel is an adrenaline filled roller coaster ride that never stops! If you are into the Mitch Rapp, Jack Reacher, or Atticus Kodiak series, then this book is for you! Shaun Phelps - Overcoming Fear: Molly Shaun was your average college student: a single parent, poor, and scared to death of his internship. When the work becomes personal and his family is threatened Shaun is forced to make a difficult choice. But how far is he willing to go?
Mike Evans lives in Iowa with his wife, children, and two adopted dogs Rusty and Harley Quinn. He writes with a passion to bring his characters to life, to make you fall in love with them, and then make you flip pages to find out if they’ll survive or perish. He keeps his characters realistic, there are no superheroes. There are no perfect characters in his books, everyone has their flaws much like that of life. Mike loves to write in different genres and is unafraid to try something new.
Jacob is a highly intelligent college student with a girlfriend, and loving family. Everything changed the day of the Chicago marathon bombing. Gabriel emerged from the hate and hurt that engulfed him on that day. Gabriel would become the one who everyone fears. Even his employers would learn to walk a careful line with him. He did his job well and left it, they need him again. This is a well written, fast paced story of inner strength, fearlessness and betrayal. The biochemical twist in this is an all too real event that will keep you reading until the end. You will want to read more from Mr. Evans. He is a fantastic writer that keeps you captivated with his all too human characters. It is easy to become connected with them all. Anxiously awaiting the sequel to this one.
As I finished up the book Gabriel by Mike Evans I had this ridiculous smile on my face and a warm feeling in my heart. The ending was absolutely fantastic and it really brought the whole book together. Gabriel is this man who really wants to be the good guy even if at times that means being the bad guy doing the unimaginable. But he also has a side of him that you don't want to screw with! If you do happen to cross his path you definitely don't want to make him angry. Mr. Evans did a fantastic job of painting pictures in my mind that will forever be imprinted in my memory. I can not wait to see what else Gabriel can accomplish in the future!!! I said this before when I read The Orphans and I will say it again... I am now and will always be a dedicated fan... patiently awaiting more from the brilliant mind of Mike Evans!
A man set upon revenge by circumstances beyond his control. A man driven, a man trained too make a difference" January 24, 2015 A review of a book that is officially for sale as of today written by Mike Evans By rhl
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase An incredible story about a government hitman that goes into business for himself and takes his jobs judged on his own code of justice. This distinct and moral code is unbreakable, Gabriel lives up to his operative chosen name. Gabriel lives by this code the way a samurai lives by bushido, unflinching and without remorse. If Gabriel took a job with your name on the contract all I can say is no bad guys have a chance and the contract holder best pay up. Gabriel has no patience for criminals and no patience for anyone who gets in his way of completing his contract. This story will be released soon and I had the pleasure of reading a beta copy . Mike Evans is a talented writer who is expanding his genres from Zombie apocalypse dystopian fiction and is now making his name known in mystery and mens adventure. This story will be released in the near future. author Mike Evans
This is something i wrote after i read the beta copy back in January actually new years eve and I couldn't ask for a more compelling story too usher in the New Year.
This is a very good start to what I hope is a long series. The pace of the book is very good and I find the main character to be likeable and someone easy to root for. There is a lot of great action and violence. I enjoyed the flashbacks that covered the formation of who Gabriel is. I would have preferred the flashbacks to be even longer. The author takes his time letting you know the hero. If I had one criticism it is that the current conflict is resolved too quickly. I would have enjoyed it more if the book was longer and there was more meat in the main plotline. This is something I believe the author will do in future books. I also would like to see some flaws in the character. He is almost too perfect. These are minor issues. Overall I really enjoyed the book and enthusiastically recommend it. I look forward to future stories in the series.
Just finished reading Gabriel. I don't think I've been this Stressed out from a book in quite sometime! It is a Nonstop, Jaw dropping, Stomach twisting read. I've had to Stop ,put the book down , Check and Double check the locks on my doors! Gabriel is a character who your totally rooting for, but at the same time peaking through your fingers to see what he comes up with next! Excited to see what's in store for him next!
Mr. Evans outshines himself this time in a big way. Gabriel is a nail biting page turner that leaves you wanting more. It was much like any Vince Flynn story. Highly recommend this book.
Plenty of action.. but the Gabriel character is no Mitch Rapp. The storyline had nothing interesting to offer, except the concept of destroying America using bioweapon by terrorists
This is a review of the audiobook/Audible edition.
I was pleasantly surprised by this assassin novel. It started off knee-deep in action, let off a tad for a very brief but interesting backstory, and kicked some significant butt all the way to the conclusion.
The brief synopsis available on Audible and Goodreads is sufficient. This is one of those books that is best when the listener/reader doesn’t know what is coming next and I highly recommend avoiding spoilers for this fast-paced story. There are some very good plot twists and the ending was quite good, serving as a stand-alone novel while leaving the window open for sequels.
The narration by Jack Wallen, Jr was very good. I initially thought his voice for Gabriel was too quiet and was expecting more of a “Scott Brick bad-assedness” type voice but after only a few minutes I became comfortable with the narration and Gabriel’s portrayal. Mr Wallen’s performance was admirable, with distinct voices and many accents/dialects and there was never a question of which character was speaking at any given time. This was my first audiobook with Mr Wallen as narrator, but I am sure it won’t be my last.
I have been spoiled by Tom Wood’s “Victor the Assassin” series and, I have to admit, I was not anticipating Gabriel to be as good as it was. Gabriel compares very favorably to Victor (still my favorite). If you are looking for a novel of assassins without all of the angst (popularized by Ludlum) and you are waiting impatiently for the next Victor novel, give Gabriel a try: it will definitely serve to fill that assassin escapism in your listening. Story (plot) :4 Performance. :4 Production Quality :3 Attention Holding. :4
I received Gabriel: Only One Gets Out Alive for free in return for a fair and unbiased review.
Action, darkness, inteligence, spy, death, angel of death ..Gabriel I was lucky to be one of the beta readers for this books, and i say lucky because a espionage thriller is usualy not the kind of book that i would buy. But i was already fascinated by the dark and twisted side of the author of The Orphans , Mike Evans and i was very curious to start reading his second book. The books startes like you would think , a operative is somewhere on a mission, and he gets the kill done. The great Mike Evans Show is about to start, this man is a genius, he has a way to descrive the the caracthers so that they are 4 dimensional. You have the feeling that they are friends that you just can reach out to and talk. I dont want to sound to girly, because this is a dark , aggressive and violent Story with allot of killing and fighting going on, nothing for the faint hearted. Gabriel is the dark op of the new generation, his outside look is not spectacular, but the mind behind those eyes is the truth weapon. Hey, inteligence is sexy! Gabriel is like a regular guy just walking on the streets maybe on his way to get a coffe, the only diference is that he just split someones throat and decided that it would be a great idea to carve a message on the persons chest, with a knife... Afther i told you that , i only can wish you happy reading! ***dont read the last pages first!!!
WOW! What a story! From the first few pages the action started and never stopped! Mr. Evans has a way of drawing you into the story having you holding your breath and sitting on the edge of your seat with each turn of the page. Within the first chapter you will find out what pushes “Gabriel” to become the man he did and what spurs him on to continue. A man driven by loss and the love of his country, he will not stop at anything to find the justice he so seeks! With each descriptive word, this story played out in my head and I could picture each and every scene as if watching a movie…each and every bloody scene. If you are a reader of action stories then do not hesitate to get a copy of this book and be prepared to be wowed! I highly recommend this book be added to everyone’s library and thoroughly enjoyed! I do hope this is the beginning of a series because there is so much more of a story to tell about Gabriel.
One added bonus to this awesome book is the short story “Molly” by Shaun Phelps which I also highly enjoyed! It is the story of a man who questions the actions of a neighbor and who will stop at nothing to keep his family safe as any of us would. This is definitely a great story and Mr. Phelps with his amazing writing within a few pages has told an exciting story and has definitely added me as a new fan of his!
If you are looking for a Zpoc book this is definitely not it. If you, however, are looking for a non-stop thrill ride this is the book for you. Gabriel starts off with full-blown action not letting up. Gabriel is on a job and told that if he doesn’t make it to his rendezvous within a set amount of time he will not have a ride. Gabriel finishes his mission and rescues an informant before leaving the CIA. Then we learn how Jacob August came to be Gabriel and the devastating events that led up to his joining the CIA. Gabriel is soon roped or forced into working for the CIA once again in order to save the United States of America from one of the worst terrorist attacks in history. Gabriel is the best at what he does and there is no one more suited for the job to rescue all of America. This book is so exciting you don’t want to put it down and when the story is over you are left still wanting more.
What happens along the way? Does he complete his latest mission? Only one way to find out BUY the book now. This is a purchase you won’t regret, when it comes to an action thriller Mike Evans has definitely made a name for himself with Gabriel.
You know how to tell if a story is good or not. Well for me its if it keeps you up all night . This one did I was up in till 3am i had to finish the book. And you dont ever want to mess with Gabriel, he is one mean guy. Mike Evans has done it again. This is a great thrilling story. It was hard to put down and keep me up at night reading had to know what was going on with Gabriel. If you like reading thrilling hit man style of stories this is for you. I am will be awaiting the new installment of Gabriel .
Gabriel, God's avenging angel, is the pseudonym for the man to call when everything goes to poop! The call this time: save the world from a deadly disease engineered by radical terrorists. When Gabriel gets to work, he is brutally effective in dealing massive amounts of pain and death to his targets. And one major thing to remember: if you value your life and don't want to feel insufferable pain for the rest of your life, don't mess with his wife, his children or his money! Gabriel is ruthlessly efficient and makes a terrific character for this brutal storyline. The language is appropriate for the situations. The violence is overwhelming at times, but the storyline calls for it. I have no sympathy for Gabriel's victims - they had it coming! And I applaud the careful editing of the book. Good grammar and spelling are as important as continuity and context to smooth reading. And this was as smooth as it gets! I couldn't put this down. Action on every page! This is a great read!
3.5 stars Gabriel is a short read introducing Jacob August as Gabriel, CIA assassin. Gabriel has a promising start….I mean I quite like him. The story and the plot are averagely entertaining but I am sorry to say that the weakest point of the book is the unnatural, scripted and unrealistic dialogue. I enjoy reading the book until each character starts to speak. I listen to audio version and it was Horatio from CSI Miami….every one talks like that. I switched to epub and found it was better but still that dramatic stage performance dialogue haunted me.
What an awesome book. Scary as all get out, perfect timing. With a global pandemic going on, this book is spot on and very realistic. That is what makes it so very scary.
This book is action packed and suspenseful. I Love how the MC is both a good guy and a bad guy depending on your world view. For me he is a Hero, a great guy and exactly what we need today. Others would argue against that, and that is what contributes to this being a GREAT book!
Mike Evans never disappoints, if he wrote it, it is worthy of a read. Needless to say, I am a Huge fan of his.
I can't explain the attraction of a near heartless sociopath who is driven by almost limitless love, but Gabriel/Jacob got his hooks into me from the beginning. An amazingly original character in a never boring well told story. You will never regret the time spent reading this one.
Move over James Bond, Gabriel doesn't need any cool gadgets to get the job done, hold the Martini. I was hooked from the start, and couldn't put it down, Jack Wallen Jr's narration was perfect. I received this book in exchange for my honest review,
Excellent book! You do not want to get on Gabriel's bad side. He is focused and nothing will get in the way of his mission. This was a roller coaster ride of action. Loved it!
This is the worst book I've ever read. The main character is the smartest, strongest, most beautiful creature to ever walk the earth. Even his shit does not stink.
I found this book after reading "The Orphans" also by Evans. When I first saw it, I figured it would be just another spy or assassin story like Bourne that's been told and retold a thousand times before. The more I thought it through, the more I remembered, "The Orphans" was anything but a rehash. If Evans could breathe new life into a horrifically overdone (though my favorite) genre of zompoc, what could he do with this? "The Orphans" was so well thought out, written and edited (especially for an indie author) I decided I should give this a shot too. I'm quite glad I did.
The depth that Evans brings to all of his characters never disappoints and Gabriel is no different. A heart breaking origin story fuels this relentless though very likable killer on his hunt for justice against those who would dare bring harm to the innocent. Gabriel isn't just on a mission for justice, he wants revenge and isn't afraid to quench that thirst with well deserved brutal violence.
I read this book like it was on fire, cheering Gabriel on the entire way. I rarely detour from zompoc but this was a refreshing change that did not disappoint in any way. I'm completely hooked and I'm sure you will be too!
Jacob August is just a normal college student with some angry issues when his whole world collapses. He loses his Mom, Dad and sister, basically his entire family in a terrorist attack. His reaction to this loss is noticed by a teacher who then has him contacted by the CIA. Jacob is a highly intelligent young man now motivated by thoughts of revenge. He becomes Gabriel a sniper and trained assassin for the CIA then after a falling out with the agency he becomes a hitman for hire. When a terrorist plot is uncovered, Gabriel is reluctantly pulled back in to stop the attack from happening. This is an action packed, fast moving thrill ride of a story and I'm really looking forward to reading the next book in the series. I would highly recommend this book and series to anyone who loves a intelligent crime story.
This book is awesome! I should have gone to sleep hours ago but I had to finish it! Ok so yes I was expecting another zombie book because let's face it....both these guys have some great Zompoc stories under their belts, but this was great read (even without the zombies) lol. Meet Gabriel self proclaimed angel of death CIA trained assassin turned freelance hirman. He thinks his days o of working for the government are way behind him until they make him an offer he can't refuse.....terrorist threat, incurable plague, patriotism at its best. Move over Tom Clancy cuz Gabriel's come to town!
