In Heal Yourself with Sunlight, Andreas Moritz has provided scientific evidence that sunlight is essential for good health, and that a lack of sun exposure can be held responsible for many of today’s ailments. Sunlight is a nutrient, a medicine, a remedy, all at once. It is not some bottled compound you can find at a drug store alone. It is naturally available to everyone. The dosage is under your control and your body easily tells you when you have had just about the right amount of it. Unfortunately, even though sunlight is readily available all through the day, many people fail to profit from it. Read this book to learn how you can harness sunlight, nature’s most potent and curative powers, for maintaining good health. It is a misconception that the sun is the main culprit for causing skin cancer, certain cataracts leading to blindness, and aging. Research has actually shown that most skin cancers occur among those who rarely ever spend time in the sun or who use sunscreens filled with carcinogenic chemicals. It has been known for several decades that those living mostly in the outdoors, at high altitudes, or near the equator, have the lowest incidence of skin cancers and are among the healthiest people on the planet. Patients suffering from gout, rheumatoid arthritis, colitis, arteriosclerosis, diabetes, cancer, hypertension, tuberculosis, anemia, cystitis, eczema, acne, psoriasis, herpes, lupus, sciatica, kidney problems, asthma, as well as burns, have all shown to receive great benefit from the healing rays of the sun. Heal Yourself With Sunlight tells you, among other things, how Vitamin D, which the skin produces in response to sun exposure, keeps the body’s immune system strong, prevents the bone-thinning disease osteoporosis, and reverses numerous types of cancer, among many other illnesses. Sunlight is the ultimate source of life on earth and the ideal panacea to increase the effectiveness of every other healing modality. Unlike drugs, surgery or radiation, sunlight costs nothing, has no harmful side-effects, and foremost of all, it makes you feel good.
Andreas Moritz was an author, lecturer, and practitioner in the field of alternative and integrative medicine.
He wrote over a dozen books on various subjects pertaining to holistic health, and much of his life's work has been dedicated to understanding and treating the root of causes of illness and helping the body to naturally heal itself.
He is most well known for his books The Amazing Liver and Gallbladder Flush, Timeless Secrets of Health and Rejuvenation, and Cancer Is Not a Disease.
A very interesting book about sunlight and the healing rays of the sun. Moritz refers to much research that exposes todays mostly wrong understanding of the sun as dangerous. Todays mantra is to avoid the sun, and if you spend time in the sun use sunscreen and sunglasses. Moritz gives good and solid information that avoiding sunlight and using sunscreen and sunglasses, artifical light and food containing much of polyunsaturated fats (expect from fish) are the main reasons for the skin cancer epidemic that we can see today. He contrasts it to more ancient times when skin cancer was a very rare sicknes, even when the sun was stronger before and people spent more time outdoors. The weakness of the book is its lack of source referencs and some trivial statements that I can not totally agree with.
I believe that everything good in free or freely provided in the nature. They are indeed gifts from our creator. Sunlight is no exception. I believe there will be more benefits that harms, and it is essential to get natural sunlight daily. I walk early in the morning then stroll after dinner. Although my main objective was to enjoy everchanging sunrises and sunsets, now I know that vitamin D and cardiovascular activity which can help my overall wellbeing. I am constantly amazed the lifestyle and habit that I have chosen are indeed so good for me, and give 100% credit to my God who has given me the wisdom, though I had no clue.... Thank you...
This book talks a lot about how important getting put in the sun is. Th causes of sunburn are discussed like all the trans fats and bad oils we eat. Many sunscreens cause cancer. Why sunglasses prevent the making of melatonin in our body.
As a crunchy person this book seemed right up my ally. As a wife of a melanoma survivor you’d think I’d laugh at it. Mostly though, I was surprised at the authors approach and quite pleased with the diversity covered. Moritz did an excellent job going from lightbulbs, mold, food, sunscreen, exercise, newborns, and everything you could possibly want to know about vitamin d to cancer, ms, md, diabetes, blood pressure, genetics and so much more. It was very interesting though quite dry. My only complaint is it could have been sourced much better. Don’t get me wrong though, he did source many studies just not as many as should have been. Worth reading!
Amazing information and education about the benefits of full spectrum sunlight and the real causes of skin cancer (spoiler alert: skin cancer stems from industrialized, oxidized seed oils present in modern food today, the chemicals found in sunscreens and many skin-related products, various pharmaceuticals, heavy use of artificial light from screens and LEDs, etc). Unfortunately, this reads like a boring textbook. While it's still a great book to reference, it is definitely not a fun or super engaging reading experience.
Interesting read. Andreas takes a deep dive into the deeply nourishing and healing effects that the sunlight has to offer. I recommend for anyone who wishes to step away from pharmaceuticals and step into natural health and healing.
I learnt why combining polyunsaturated fats with sunbathing is a bad idea. Another reason to avoid all junk food, processed foods... Healthy foods with healthy fats and lots of sunbathing is the way!
First half is incredible, the second half slips into centralized thinking, except for the last chapter. Great intro into sunlight for healing nonetheless.
Learned a lot. It was very heavy on the negative effects of certain sickness and cancer contributors and lighter on the actual healing effects of the sun. Even then, I loved the information.
