Devil's Toy Box

Rate this book
There wasn't anything unusual about the house. At first glance, it was as normal as any other house in the suburban central Massachusetts neighborhood. Small and blue, it was shaped like a box with windows and doors. It was the type of house you expected to find window boxes overflowing with brightly colored geraniums and a festive garden flag that said welcome!Nothing about it suggested it was haunted.Events would transpire over the next eleven years, tearing our family apart and nearly stealing our souls. True paranormal story

I think thus far of the books I've read of Joni Mayhan's... this was the best true paranormal stories. I loved the way she was so open about her life and the chaos that was going on because of her being a medium.

This book is about Joni herself and her accounts of life as a medium while living and sometimes struggling with a family with two children while dealing with a very determined ghost in her home in Massachusetts. It is written with such honesty, that I truly felt a kinship with her and empathy as I read along with her 11 year ordeal in this house.

Great read. I didn't want to put it down. If you want to know how a medium lives with ghosts and spirits constantly in their lives, read this book. You won't be disappointed, I wasn't.

One way that I just a "true" haunted house book is this: Is the book full of terrifying visions, blood seeping from the walls, demons lurking over the beds, possessions? (not that these things don't happen, but if they do I would guess they're rare). If so, then I find the story hard to believe and enjoy the book as fiction. This book is believable. The events that happen are realistic. I've had my own experiences since age 2 so I knew where Ms. Mahan was coming from and could identify with her story. So, I give this book 4 stars because it's well written and I believe it. Is it exciting and will it make you afraid to go to bed at night? No. If you want to read about a typical haunting though, this is a good one for that.

Devil's Toy Box is a story that relates Joni's time of living with the paranormal. I enjoyed the book, and the author's writing style. The way she tells the story is laid back, keeping you in suspense. Her storytelling makes you feel as though you're in the moment. I'm looking forward to reading her other books.

Interesting Not So Scary

When I started reading this book I was hooked. The more I read I felt it was going to keep me on the edge of something really terrifying about to happen but that never happened. I was very disappointed that I was getting bored waiting for the story to keep my interest. Joni is good at making you visualize what's happening but I expected more. If you are looking for hair raising fear this is not it.

This was a very good true paranormal story of the author's true experience - I have read other books by Joni Mayhan and so far I have liked all her books. The author went through a harrowing experience with a paranormal entity for a long time. She gave a lot of background information of her life which set the tone for the story and the true account of what she went through was fast paced. Kept me intrigued through the whole book. Definitely a five star read!

A definite improvement on The Soul Collector.

Her style is still a little disjointed and sometimes feels like you are reading a shopping list but nonetheless it was a very good read.

I find this one interesting, as I find all personal accounts interesting, but it was not what I was looking for in a book about a haunting.
