Rate this book
In 1865, the Civil War has begun dividing American households, claiming lives and wreaking havoc along the Eastern seaboard mostly. However, young men with the desire to marry are still willing to risk everything to find a bride, using the local newspaper to find mail order brides. These women, dubbed “mail order brides”, follow their hearts and make choices that affect the West as it is known later, a place where hard work is the norm and the law is often little more than a dream. Their courage and dedication to the men they often learn to love paves the way for a new period of true love in the Wild West.

....FORCED TO GET MARRIED & DESPERATE TRYING TO ESCAPE... Laura Cavell, aged twenty was forced to marry a terrible tyrant just to fulfill his father debt. Will she escape their clutches?

When faced with brutality or the unknown, can love still find a way?

Laura, the daughter of aristocrats who are on the verge of bankruptcy due to poor financial decision making. They are desperate to see her married to someone of wealth in order to bring a new income into their failing household, to the point that she is promised to a vicious man who threatens to take Laura’s very life.

Instead of marrying the abusive brute, Laura takes a chance and answers the mail order bride ad of a man out West, someone she’s never met. She must escape the violence and abuse before it becomes more serious, so with the help of her pastor’s wife and the blessings of God, she travels West with the intention of marrying the man sight-unseen.

“I couldn't live with myself if I didn't implore you to seriously consider becoming a mail order bride…” said Annie.

Laura contemplated for a moment before speaking. “I would need to leave quickly and in secret,” she said quietly.

James Thomason, a poor farmer, plain-looking man, has never really seen the point in having a wife, but he desires to have a companion in life, someone strong and brave who he can depend on each day.

He decides to advertise for a bride, much to the surprise of his friends, and is shocked to get a quick response from a lady back East. Taking a chance, he decides to marry and give his home the feminine touch it has been missing.

In his haste to make things comfortable for his soon-to-be wife, James makes some financial choices that could ruin his marriage from the very first day. He must struggle with the knowledge that his new bride will come to a nearly penniless home …or he must send her back East.

Can James find a way out of his financial trouble and keep his new wife?

Will Laura be forced to return to the hands of the man who will kill her for leaving?
