The Lesbian with an Exception trope is homophobic trash. This is the kind of book my youth pastor, the one who told me I would never be sexually fulfilled by a woman AND that I would be going to hell for my "decisions," would absolutely love. I can only think that with every other book, movie, or TV show that is released with this same awful, overdone theme, it inspires homophobes to harass lesbians even more than they already are.
I guarantee you that any writer who tries to put a spin on this trope has no talent. Anyone who has to rely on a porn-esque lesbian fetish to try and sell books is pathetic.

I wouldn't even give this a 1 full star if I could, because that's how much it deserves. Save yourself the time, money, anger, and pain by NOT reading this garbage of a book.
I read the blurb, and immediately I felt disgusted. You can scream at the top of your lungs about how this book was about a bisexual woman, but if that was the case, then why hadn't the author made that clear from the very start? Why hadn't she said so in all of her blog posts? Why hasn't she given a heads up to readers at the very beginning of the book?
No. It's because she wanted this to be about a lesbian, who's sexuality has changed. Lesbians aren't sexually/romantically attracted to men. Sexuality is NOT fluid for lesbians. Why is that so hard to grasp?? You will never understand how wrong this is, or how much this has hurt the lesbian community. How many times do lesbians have to put up with men's bullshit because they think they could "turn them straight"? How many times will lesbians have to hear, "It's the personality that matters, not their sex!" Yeah, give men the idea that they can get a lesbian if they just try hard enough. Give homophobic Christians the idea that conversion therapy can turn anyone straight, if they just try hard enough.
I planned on reading this book completely and giving my full opinion, but I couldn't finish it, because of how sickening it was. And yes, it was as bad as I had imagined.
Here's a scene at the airplane, with Nate and Ellie, where Nate (a straight man) becomes increasingly predatory to Ellie (an out and proud lesbian).

The description of this book alone is the most lesbiphobic thing I have read. It perpetuates SO many untrue stereotypes and tropes. The first sentence of the description is "Ellie Turner is a lesbian" a LESBIAN. Do you know what that means? Woman attracted to women. Non-lesbians should not writer lesbian stories, ESPECIALLY when they don't even have a basic understanding of what it is to be a lesbian. Lesbians are challenged their whole lives with accepting who they are and to let someone be "out and proud" and just throw a man in their way to change EVERYTHING. Perpetuates the idea that the only reason we're gay is bc we haven't found the write woman yet. Bi girls exist!!!! And they're amazing!!!! A story about a bi girl falling in love with a man would be totally cool. But to give someone the status of Lesbian and rip it from them without knowing what that actually does to a person, without acting understanding what it means to not be attracted to men in any way is so lesbiphobic and gross. Compulsory heterosexuality is a real thing and it can literally tear a person apart. If a lesbian is forcing themselves to be with a man their are deeper issues then some "cute romance novel"

honestly this book was bad my sister got it for me because she knows I'm a lesbian however honestly this book was really homophobic it was the litrery embodiment of that person who tells you that one day you'll find the right man when you come out also the woman in the book is clearly not a lesbian if she loves a man.

A lesbian and a Hollywood badboy? How the heck is this dynamic going to work out!
Pretty interesting duo, Sarah! I love it!
The second book in its series, Changing the Tides was a blind read for me. I did not know how Nate, as charming and attractive as he is, was going to win over a gal like Ellie who was a proud homosexual. It was just intriguing and suspenseful to see how it all worked out.
I liked their relationship. They meet on a flight and from the get go there’s that spark that neither can seem to shake off.
But, their romance doesn’t just take off from there. Both Ellie and Nate still have a lot to work out personally and professionally wise, and it’s really a battle of wills and succumbing to choices and figuring out what you want out of life and your future.
Thank god there isn’t any typical clichés that you see in Hollywood famous love novels, as it made my reading experience much more enjoyable and satisfying, and not causing me to roll my eyes and want to strange someone.
#All in all…A witty, steamy, and enjoyable installment to the Kill Devil Hills series! Can’t wait to see what’s in store in it and to see old and new reoccurring characters!!

Really liked this story. Had to look beyond the insta-love between the MC's as well as the believability of the storyline and tried to just go with the flow. When I did, there was a lot of "awwww" and "how cute"'s going around my head. It also helped that the author's writing style added to the enjoyment of the whole story.
The ending kinda wrapped up a little too quickly for my liking and there was no epilogue (which normally kills me for a standalone book) but knowing book #3 is coming, makes everything ok cos I know I'll get my glimpse of their HFN throughout that book.
This is a standalone novel but I would recommend reading the series in order to get a better understanding and background of each character. Dual POV in first person.

Ellie's in the middle of dealing with family drama when she meets movie-star Nate West on an airplane. The twist is...Ellie is a lesbian and she doesn't like men. But she connects with Nathanial immediately. She decides she wants to explore whatever it is that's between them and the new feelings she's feeling. Nathanial has recently broken up with his co-star girlfriend and isn't looking for anything more than physical.
What I loved about this novel, in comparison to other movie-star romances, was the lack of the annoying manager, the annoying media and rumors that tear the couple apart, and the annoying fans that chase people through streets.
Ellie was great--just as funny, light-hearted, and genuine as she was in book 1. Nathanial was sexy and very alpha. Noah even got a chapter in the middle of the novel. And I loved Rhett! Can't wait to read his novel! The preview at the end of his book left me wanting so much more!

Oh the FEELS!!!! I love a book that leaves you with a smile on your face but at the same time begging for the next book STAT! And Changing Tides by Sarah Darlington is a perfect example of a romance book done right with a surprise twist of events.
In Changing Tides, we are introduced to Ellie Turner, the lesbian sister. Ellie always knew she was a lesbian but that all changes when she meets a man who sparked something inside her. A man who had Ellie questioning her sexuality and brought up a wide range of emotions of jealousy and love. Who would of thought Ellie would be attracted to one of the most hottest rugged handsome actor of Hollywood? And of course, Nathanial West is mutually attracted to Ellie. Love needs no definition and when two people are meant to be together so be it and Ellie and Nathanial truly shows that their love and relationship doesn't need to be explained. It is just two people who found love, friendship and romance with each other.
I adore this book because of how simple and beautiful Nathanial and Ellie's relationship is. There is no doubts that these two had the magical spark and connection. I love that Nathanial never questioned or judged Ellie but allowed her to see that this mutual attraction is something that they should both explore together. And he was the perfect example of a sweetheart. I really don't want to spoil anything for the readers but this book was organic. The romance will make you swoon and at the same time, shocking turn of events will have you begging Sarah for the next installment. This was another great installment to a beautiful and heartfelt series.

5 changing tides and changing sides stars
I have devoured everything Sarah has ever written and I stalk her on facebook for any gems not published!
Love does not see race, gender, disability or age. Love just loves
Ellie is taking a plane to see her brother that "died" in book 1 and her entire family still believes he is dead so she is very stressed out. She has to use the restroom but the only one available is in first class next to Nate fucking West. When she says she has to use the restroom you can feel the sparks start from the very beginning.
Come or don't come--whatever you want. But I guarantee if you follow me into that bathroom youre going to come.
As Ellie internally battled herself(shes a lesbian) she told Nate Sometimes in life--very rarely, I might add--you meet someone and you know instantly they are going to mean something special to you And leaves Nate to puzzle over her statement.
through a series of really crazy coincidences Nate ends up being there for her for the entire emotional roller coaster of understanding her sexuality, dealing with her brother who isn't dead but also doesn't want anyone to know hes alive and her feelings for Nate.
Two people who live on opposites sides of the globe -- is love enough to make everything worth it in the end?
I cant wait for book 3 to find out

After reading and enjoying Kill Devil Hills (Kill Devil Hills #1) earlier this year, I was excited to continue on with the series.
Changing Tides begins with Ellie, Noah, Georgie and friends taking a trip to California. While most of them view it as a short vacation, Ellie has a specific reason for going there (and oh my goodness did that reason ever take me by surprise). On the flight there she meets Hollywood hottie/TV star Nate West. They share an almost-hook-up on the plane which leaves Ellie, a lesbian, plenty confused since she has never once questioned her sexuality. She reconnects with Nate during her stay and finds herself not only incredibly attracted to him, but also feeling like he could mean more to her than just 'experimentation.'
I enjoyed revisiting the characters from the first book in the series and learning more about Ellie. She is a straight forward no-nonsense kind of woman who almost always speaks her mind - which is refreshing. Nathaniel (Nate) was sweet and considerate and went above and beyond to prove his feelings for Ellie. However, it was impossible to ignore the insta-love happening here. At one point Nate is considering his interaction with Ellie and "the deepest intimacy I'd ever experienced." After ONE day? Seriously? I can understand instant attraction, or even insta-lust, but it strains believability when a character is claiming deep intimacy after 24 hours. Also the fact that Ellie did not share with her parents the reason behind her trip (it impacted the entire family) for a month or more... just no. That made no sense to me at all.
Kill Devil Hills, which focused on Noah and Georgie, had true depth and emotion and felt completely and utterly realistic. Changing Tides, while overall enjoyable, was just lacking that depth and realism. I'm looking forward to continuing the series with Rhett's story in the third book. (Side note: I truly hope a certain character does NOT get his own story. I am so disgusted by his selfishness that I have no desire to read about any justification for his actions. Ugh.)

Changing Tides is the second book in the Kill Devil Hills series. I would definitely recommend reading Kill Devil Hills before reading Changing Tides. There is a lot of back story in this book that you would not understand if you jump into this one first.
You meet Ellie in Kill Devil Hills, Noah and Georgie’s story. She is the big hearted, take no shit from anyone, tomboy lesbian who would do anything for her friends and family. Changing Tides picks up a little after KDH ends.
Ellie has convinced her friends to go on a trip to L.A., but unbeknownst to her friends she has a hidden agenda. On the flight there Ellie uses the first class restroom and meets the notorious sexy Nate West, who happens to be the star actor in her favorite T.V. show, so of course she is unable to decline his invite to sit next to him and enjoy each other’s company.
Ellie is unlike anyone Nathanial has ever met before and that just makes him all the more fascinated with her. He can’t deny the feelings she evokes in him and the undeniable spark between them.
“Sometimes in life, very rarely I might add, you meet someone and you know instantly they’re going to mean something special to you. I didn’t know what that meant at first, but I understand it now.”
Ellie has never questioned her sexuality, but now this one man is making her question everything she ever thought about herself. I loved this book! It was the perfect companion novel to Kill Devil Hills. I adored Nathanial and his unwavering patience with Ellie while she tried to work through things. He was her biggest supporter and was always there for her with whatever she needed. This is the perfect book for when you need a sweet romantic read, with low angst, and a swoon worthy male.
Though Ellie and Nathanial’s journey/relationship was the perfect heartwarming story, Sarah did drop a pretty big bomb on us and I absolutely cannot wait to read Pulled Under, her next novel in the series.

5+++ Gooey and warm inside stars!
Oh lord, where to begin??? I loved Ellie's character in Kill Devil Hills but I did not expect how much I would adore her in her own story.
Ellie's a tattooed, tell it like it is, happy with life, lesbian...until television star Nathaniel West enters her life and knocks her for a loop, changing everything she thought about herself.
I imagine there will be some that might take exception to or question this story line, but I freaking LOVED this book, love, love, loved it! I think Sarah Darlington did an incredible job with how she portrayed Ellie and how she had Ellie deal with the questioning of her sexuality. This book has everything I could want- a fun and feisty heroine, a swoon-worthy hero, an awesome cast of side characters, an interesting story line...add in a little drama and throw in a twist for good measure and perfection, thy name is Changing Tides.

And the title couldn't be more perfect- keeping the feel of Kill Devil Hills, while incorporating everything Ellie goes through in the book, well done Sarah!
Getting to see Noah and Georgina again made me so happy- I love the way Noah cares so much for Georgie. "She was my everything. And in the months since we'd started dating she'd quickly become my reason for living." I hope we get more of them!
I'm so excited for Pulled Under, seeing what's in store next for this group that I have come to love.

Oh lord, where to begin??? I loved Ellie's character in Kill Devil Hills but I did not expect how much I would adore her in her own story.
Ellie's a tattooed, tell it like it is, happy with life, lesbian...until television star Nathaniel West enters her life and knocks her for a loop, changing everything she thought about herself.
I imagine there will be some that might take exception to or question this story line, but I freaking LOVED this book, love, love, loved it! I think Sarah Darlington did an incredible job with how she portrayed Ellie and how she had Ellie deal with the questioning of her sexuality. This book has everything I could want- a fun and feisty heroine, a swoon-worthy hero, an awesome cast of side characters, an interesting story line...add in a little drama and throw in a twist for good measure and perfection, thy name is Changing Tides.

*****5 Wave-Breaking Stars for Changing Tides!!!!*****
If you haven’t discovered Sarah Darlington’s books yet… you need to pick one up TODAY… as in RIGHT NOW… You NEED to One-Click THIS BOOK!!! With each book she writes, this series just keeps getting better and better. I was a super-fan of the first book in the series, Kill Devil Hills, but I absolutely LOVED this second book, Changing Tides, even more than the first!!! This book blew it out of the water for me!!! It was FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC in every way possible!!!! From the very first chapter, you will be pulled into the story and into the lives of these amazing characters… and as I did, you will LOVE every page-turning minute of it!!!!
The story and characters in this series are beautifully written with the perfect amount of background and depth given to both the side and main characters… you really get to know and love all of them! And C.T. is written in my favorite POV, which is the “Dual POV”, switching each chapter between the female and male lead characters, Ellie and Nate. Ellie is a straight-shooting, tell-it-like-it-is girl… and despite struggling with her sexuality… she was a very strong female lead character, which I absolutely loved!!! And Nate is so hot and sexy, and alpha-male that you will love every minute shared between him and Ellie… from their fun, flirty banter, to the obvious magnetism and steamy scenes between them… you will enjoy it all!
Since this book is a stand-alone, it doesn’t end on a cliffy… which is great… because oh, those cliffies give me some major angst!!! But, Ms. Darlington does give us a sneak peak at the next book in the series, “Pulled Under,” (Kill Devil Hills #3)… which will be Sydney & Rhett’s story. After I finished reading the sneak preview, I was totally left hanging… mouth-watering to read the rest of “Pulled Under” RIGHT NOW!!!! Aaarrrggghh… okay, so a sneak preview is almost as bad as a cliffy, lol. ;)
And I can’t end my review without commenting on the title of this book. Most books out there do not have interesting titles… most are a dime a dozen, and you don’t really notice or care about the title too much. But I have to say, that I just loved the clever name of this book… relating back to Ellie’s character and how she was literally “Changing Tides” in her sexuality and life… while the title was also keeping beachy-Kill Devil Hills-theme at the same time. I’m one to like and notice little details like that… especially when an author takes the time, and puts some effort and creativity into something that many authors tend to gloss over --- so color me impressed! Very clever title Ms. Darlington!

I loved this book sooo hard! First off I loved Ellie's character in the first book of the series so I was super excited to see how her story was going to go. Now Ellie is a lesbian. I was curious how the author was going to pull this off because this is not a F/F book it's a M/F.
Well well well first off Ellie has never met someone like Nate West (a sexy beast of a man). He also is an actor in her favorite tv series. He stirs something in her. She's not "butch" per say but she's usually the alpha. She can't help but be drawn to this uber alpha male.
They meet on an airplane and almost end up doing the deed in the bathroom!! They go their separate ways but Ellie is still on Nates mind. And cupid comes to the rescue and he sees her again.
I loved how they were just so comfortable with each other. Ellie is still attracted to girls and she still doesn't care for men but Nate is different. They are a soul match. It doesn't matter if it's with a woman or a man Loving someone is that easy.
I really am looking forward to the next book. I don't want to give anything away if someone hasn't read the first or this one but I know I will be reading it!!!!

When I was asked if I'd like to review this I read the blurb and immediately said yes. We've all read the books about people realising they're gay but never I have a read one where a proud to be gay woman finds herself attracted to a man.
I love Ellie, I love everything about her. She's upfront, honest, loyal and not afraid to go after what she wants.
That's what Nathaniel seems to like about her too. But after they depart the plane he figures he'll never see her again. But by a strange twist of fate he does, at a very venerable moment, (which was a complete surprise in the beginning of the book).
Now they're both trying to figure out feelings, Ellie having never been attracted to a man, and Nathaniel having come out of a serious relationship. Not to mention they live on opposite coasts.
I like that this isn't a normal Hollywood story. They actually got to be themselves. I was so drawn into their story that I finished it in one day.
There's also a sneak peek at book 3 which sounds amazing.

Thank you to the author, Sarah Darlington, for providing me with a review copy. All opinions expressed are my own.
This series is just amazing. I've read all four books and am just now getting to writing reviews for them all. It's really hard for contemporaries to earn five stars from me just because I feel like you're always lacking something. This series, and this book in particular, are one of the few exceptions.
1. The plot. This series can be read in order or as standalones but I highly recommend you read them in order. There are references in each sequential book that you may only understand if you've read the previous books and those references make the story that much better. This book centers around Ellie and Nathanial's love story and it's made slightly more complicated by the fact that Ellie is exploring a new facet of her sexuality. While I would have almost preferred it if Ellie stuck to her lesbian roots, following her through her journey of recognizing her bisexuality was good as well. Sometimes it just felt like she was falling for the old 'only men can truly satisfy women' trick and that women can't satisfy other women. Other than that, I've reread this book three times now and each time it only gets better and more engrossing.
2. The characters. As mentioned above, we get to follow Ellie on an especially important journey for her, amidst all of this Ben drama (the brother who died). Because of all these crisis', we get to know Ellie really well (and Nathaniel too). To be quite honest, I think this series is best read as a series because of it's way of taking each book to dive into another couple. In the first book, we get to know Noah and Georgina, in the second we follow Ellie and Nathaniel, the third focuses on Rhett and Sydney, and in the fourth, we follow Ben and Juniper. As you can see, each member of the main squad of characters gets their own book so even after reading only the second book, you already know these characters so well. The author does such a marvelous job fleshing out each one of the characters and developing their personalities.
3. The romance. Obviously, as a NA romance, I couldn't leave this review without mentioning it! I completely loved this romance. While there is immediate attraction, the author (and the characters, obviously) makes it clear that it's insta-lust and not insta-love which I appreciated. It's a slow burn kind of romance that's so lovely and realistic that I relished every moment.
The Final Verdict:
As always, I'm loving Sarah Darlington's work. Her characters and romance are spot on and I relished every moment of the journey.

THIS IS ME RIGHT NOW
Sarah has done it again!!!
If you haven't read any of her books, you seriously need to pick one up today.
The first novel in this series gripped my heart, but this one sent me over the edge!
What the hell is hotter than a gorgeous lesbian and a sexy, (very much male), actor falling in love? Oh yeah, NOTHING.
Honestly, this book is amazing. You don't need to read the first one to read the second, but it would give you some more insight on some things that go down.
First off, the story line is awesome. Sarah does not disappoint. I was thinking to myself, "What story could Ellie have?" Then I remembered her phone call at the end of book one and BOOM! Let's just say things will definitely capture your attention. Not to mention the chemistry between Nathanial and Ellie isn't just hott... it's fuggin adorable. I think a lot of people would argue, "This story is cheesy... who falls in love that quickly... everything happened too fast... blah blah blah blah blah." But I'm personally going to say SCREW YOU GUYS! Honestly, what's better than spontaneous love?!? Sure, sometimes things moved a little bit fast... but true love cannot be measured by any length of time. I personally love getting absorbed in the romance that Sarah creates.
The imagery is once again, AMAZINNGGG! We got such a better picture of Ellie in this book, and Nathanial is so steamy.
Ellie is such a beautiful character... she's selfless, caring and strong. I pictured her stunning, but tough as nails.
Both of them together is a work of art . All of the characters were incredible... I found myself hooked on every single one of them. I felt what they felt, and saw everything that they saw.
The writing itself is incredible. As I say in all of my other reviews, I love a writer who knows how to write. Anyone can throw some sex scenes in a book and call it a story, but Sarah truly knows how to capture you in her words. I finished this book in one sitting... I never wanted to put it down.

Both of them together is a work of art . All of the characters were incredible... I found myself hooked on every single one of them. I felt what they felt, and saw everything that they saw.
The writing itself is incredible. As I say in all of my other reviews, I love a writer who knows how to write. Anyone can throw some sex scenes in a book and call it a story, but Sarah truly knows how to capture you in her words. I finished this book in one sitting... I never wanted to put it down.
I CAN'T wait for the next book!!! :)

Where do I start? There was so much confusion in the beginning (for those of you who read it, you know what I mean). For all the books I've read by Sarah, it has been mostly a light romance that I could just fly through, but there was something about this one. most likely the seriousness; it wasn't to serious or anything, but it was just more heavy then Sarah's other books. I don't know why I feel it was heavier because looking back at reading it, it wasn't but I just found it harder to get through. But that's not the point. Once I got about 6% in, I couldn't stop reading. I stayed up all night reading until 3am when I was satisfied then... BAM! That excerpt from Rhett's story... gah! How can you be satisfied after that?!
Ellie's a lesbian in the start of the book and I've never really read a book like that so I thought I might be uncomfortable at first, but nothing in the story made me feel uncomfortable. I liked her character because she wouldn't just sit there and let people stomp all over her. It was a good change from some stories I've read where the heroine is a pushover. Ellie wasn't going to let people tell her what to do and I especially loved that part with the flight attendant.
Nate was interesting too. He was tired of the star life and I had expected that, but he seemed so desperate for Ellie and I found it quite humorous. It was funny seeing him run around trying to get her but at the same time she was doing the same. Sarah did a good job on not making the story seem like it was just Nate and Ellie; it had a lot of supporting characters that really tied the story together.
Basically, read this if you like New Adult. It isn't boring it has a backbone and that's why I keep coming back for Sarah's stories.
