Oooh, this one definitely brings back memories. I am familiar with most of the events portrayed in this book (I spend my teenage days watching Malaysian TV channels).
Some of these are still relevant. And I chuckled a lot seeing the similarities between the issues happening there and here.
For instance, the burning of certain drugs (that made people around it high), how so-called representatives liked to bring their wives for meetings and all that abroad, how housewives became crazed and frustrated because their maids had not returned from kampong after hari raya. And oh, so many more.
And I smiled wistfully (and sadly) reading the cartoon about Sudirman performing in London. I love that singer.
After years of reading this, still an instant classic.
I love that Lat can always poke fun at our political situations and his comic include current issues - in this one of CHOGM, SEA Games and Visit Malaysia. The comic was first published in 1989, thus the issues were relevant at that time.
But still, some of the issues are still relevant now.
