Wendy Reakes is the kind of writer who can skip from fantasy to science fiction to thriller to murder mystery to romance - all in one book. You never really know what you're going to get until you're done. The beginning of the book sets up the tone for the rest - a seedy character hiding in the shadows of a bedroom, threatening a man's life. Then, of course, the next hundred+ pages go back to a time before that all happened, allowing the reader to work up to the suspense, all the time wondering how the characters are going to end up there, with so many hints and questions opening up as you read - making you desperate to keep going - just so you can get answers and find out what happens... Always wondering if there is something more to Gordon's protective watch over Katherine... You're pulled in right from the start - Great reading!

A well written novel, beginning in the 1980’s in England. We follow the story of Katherine as she makes her way in the world following her passion of cooking.

Unknown to Katherine because of a good deed she did she has an anonymous benefactor who borders on obsessional as he tries to repay her for that deed. There are shady characters who use her trust to their own criminal ends and the novel comes to an exciting and thrilling end.
This is much more than a love story. The characters and coincidences are believable throughout the story line.

A enjoyable read.
