The Biohacking Manifesto: The scientific blueprint for a long, healthy and happy life using cutting edge anti-aging and neuroscience based hacks

Rate this book
What exactly is "biohacking"? Biohacking is just a fancy word for optimizing your own biological potential, and in the context of this brand new book from James Lee (author of The Methuselah Project) it means achieving this via - - Slowing the process of cellular aging to extend longevity - Whether by reducing oxidative stress, activating sirtuins, preventing inflammation or by just simply connecting with those around you (Having rich social connections with those around you is one of the strongest predictors of long life) - Understanding your own neurochemistry to enable you to address any underlying issues or dysfunction involving neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine or even acetylcholine - Utilising the latest "nootropic" brain-boosting supplements and drugs to optimise memory and cognitive function - Never heard of racetams, EGCG, sulbutiamine or modafinil? Not for long. The Biohacking Manifesto is, at its heart, a compendium of Lee's previous books The Methuselah Project, Your Brain Electric and Brain Hacks. However rather than just cobble these together and slap on a new cover, he has headed back into the clinical trial papers and the latest research from cutting edge biotechs to discover some brand new exclusive material for this book. The Biohacking Manifesto includes - - An exhaustive coverage of the latest supplements including - curcumin, astaxanthin and nicotinamide riboside (to name a few) - A comprehensive guide to the fundamentals of neurochemistry, including a range of options for boosting neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine and acetylcholine - An explanation of the various processes which underlie the aging process including - oxidative stress, inflammation and mitochondrial dysfunction - Everything you need to know if you want to live to 100 and beyond As a collected body of work, The Biohacking Manifesto gives you everything you need to know to enable you to put together a comprehensive strategy for living a long, happy and healthy life.

"Biohacking is a fancy word for using science-based tools nd shortcuts for optimising your own biological output. This can enable you to maximise logevity and life span; optimise memory and cognitive function using little-known nootropic supplements and drugs; optimise your own neurochemistry to maximise happiness and well-being; improve physical performance and underlying physiological health; prevent and repair premature cellular aging." - page 1

I have spent the last seven years introducing various biohacks into my life, and slowly but surely they have all proven to be successful, but I have always been at a loss to locate a single, concise and collected guide for pursuing a completely biohacked lifestyle... Enter The Biohacking Manifesto by James Lee.

At last, an all-encompassing overview and reference guide for pursuing a fully-fledged biohacking lifestyle. Albeit, the book is very technical, BUT it does get straight to the point and offers up an easy-to-jump-into and heavily referenced collection of short articles on the various tricks and hacks of the biohacking movement.

Aside from the knowledge it provides, I think the best message of The Biohacking Manifesto is how Lee keeps reminding the reader to be critical towards any biohacking advice, even his own advice. The field of biohacking thrives on being ahead of scientific consensus and what has already been tried, tested and scientifically verified health and wellbeing practice... to this end, you need to employ caution when undertaking many biohacking practices... which could end up having adverse effects. However, Lee's overriding message is to be critical, to seek medical advice if necessary, to tries things in small doses, to not try everything all at once and to ultimately develop a biohacking system that works best for you.

Lee does point out that the biohacking movement is a quickly moving field and many pieces of advice in his book will likely be quickly become out of date advice. Therefore, while The Biohacking Manifesto is a good place to start in providing yourself with a rough biohacking guide, I would certainly use Lee's guidance in seeking out more up to date information on whatever biohacking course or practice you wish to pursue.

I have been dipping in and out of The Biohacking Manifesto for over a year now and it has gone a very long way in plugging the gaps in my biohacking knowledge and application... and I expect I will keep following its example and dipping back into it in the future. Thank you James Lee!

Interesting

Interesting read, though there were display issues on both my Kindle devices, making reading somewhat more challenging. It would have been 4 stars otherwise.
