Barn Sneeze

Rate this book
The wind went whoo-whoo. Cow sneezed, "Moo-CHOO. Moo-CHOO." The hay blew. "Quack-CHOO," went Duck. "Quack-CHOO. Quack-CHOO." One night the wind blows through the barn and causes Cow to sneeze, which sets off a sneezy chain reaction. Each barn animal sneezes in turn, until a cacophony of sneezing fills the night, waking Sue in the farmhouse. Young children will delight in Karen B. Winnick's humorous picture book that features a rhyming text and familiar animal sound words.

This is fun to read aloud and make all the animal noises but it wasn’t an instant favorite of my 4 year old. I think the story was too simple for him, I believe this would be a bigger hit with a younger audience.

Let me rave as a Story Time Librarian about this adorable book. I know a lot of people are unsure, but this is one of those books that is an amazing read for toddler age and younger. Do not take for granted basic learning skills. There are a lot of not so great books aimed for this age range. This is a great learning tool. The illustrations are folksy and quite lovely in my opinion. The art is meant to have folk appeal and is generally well done. Here is an opportunity to learn about manners and onomatopoeia. Children can see literary devices at work here, learn to make the animal noises, and well, it's adorable.

This was part of the letter B showcase at story time. Its been two months since it was read, so I'm not remembering it very clearly. I'm fairly certain that different farm animals take turns sneezing. I remember it being kinda funny.

All the animals in the barn are sneezing! What a great opportunity to teach young ones how to sneeze into their elbows and have fun doing it while making animal noises. The illustrations are large for easy view for group reading. They seem to be drawn from chalk.

My son's favorite as a toddler. A great read-aloud book for the 2-4 set.

A clever look at animal sounds. Matthew loves it, but it's a bit of a pain to read all the sneeze sounds.
