Perfect body. Perfect car. Perfect life. So, what could a girl like that ever want from a guy like me? The guy with holes in his sneakers. The guy who can barely afford to eat. The guy with an unexpected secret. What could a princess like that want from me? After all fairy tales don't exist in real life...do they?
Unfortunately this book wasn’t what I expected. I may have enjoyed this read a lot better if I was given a little more introduction to the two main characters. The suspense wasn’t decent and plausible, and I couldn't wrap my head around the idea that Connor and Gianna both fell in love with each other. The relationship between them didn't feel right. Seriously, just everything about it was uninspiring overall. It was a force finish for me. The writing seemed rushed to me, with too much attention to redundant details and dialogues. I'm sorry, but this needs a do over on so many levels. I really wanted to like this after all the good reviews but I guess it just wasn't for me.
I've purchased several books by Xavier Neal, but this is the first one I've actually read, and ugh, where do I begin? First of all, have some tissues on standby. This story was so good. This was one finely-written young adult story. Cinderfella is a twist on the classic theme of two people from the opposite sides of the tracks who meet and fall in love only they deal with way more than just social and economic class. This story is not only about class and privilege, but more serious issues like teen parentage, domestic abuse, drug abuse, and eating disorders. What’s even better is none of it is told in a preachy, over-the-top, here’s the lesson to be learned sort of way. This is a realistic portrayal of how some teenagers actually live and survive in today's society.
Connor is poor and struggling not only financially, but mentally and emotionally to just make it through until he graduates high school. He’s up for a drama scholarship that can get him out of his current situation and into college, but he has obstacles, the main one being his 3 year old daughter MaKayla (who is the highlight of this story. OMG, I just wanted to scoop this lil girl up and hug and kiss her the whole time I was reading!) Connor and Mak live in the seedier part of town with his mom who is not only an alcoholic, but a drug addict, and the town ho. Every day is a challenge. Connor is not only father to Mak, but also his own mother.
Gianna is the spoiled, troubled rich girl who is starving for the affection of her parents. She lashes out by using drugs and getting into all kinds of trouble. She and Connor meet when they are paired in their drama class for a scene they must perform for their final grade. These two are oil and water and hate each other-in the beginning. It’s not until after a series of heated exchanges and threats of failing the class and expulsion that they reach an impasse and agree to be cordial and work as a team. Well, you know, one thing leads to another, and despite all efforts to avoid catching feelings, Connor catches feelings. And so does Gianna. A couple is born.
So much transpires from this point. Connor and Gianna learn each others’ secrets that threaten their relationship, not to mention outside parties that want to break them up. This is such a great story. This is not about a couple of horny teenagers humping. Nope. You won’t find any sex in this book and the storytelling is so good that you won’t even miss it. It’s just non-stop drama about two young people who are forced to deal with the consequences of their actions. I would really love a follow up to see how this young family is doing. Click it up!
I was given an ARC of this book by the author in exchange for a review. I have read several of Xavier's books and loved them and this one did not disappoint. the author sure knows how to rip a girls heart out, throw it to the ground, stomp on it, THEN pick it up dust it off and hand it back to you. Then she yanks it away again laughing like haha F**K you I wasn't done with that yet thank you very much! There are such an array of emotions throughout this story that the author actually makes you feel. Several times throughout I wanted to literally applaud Connor for having the courage to do the right thing and be a man. I wanted to shake his mother however. I also laughed a lot ( MoMo and PoPo heehee) Great Job Xavier
I'm not even sure where to begin with this review. I don't know how many times I've started writing something, but then just trashed it because it doesn't do this book justice. So if you take ANYTHING away from this review, just make note that this book is a MUST READ!
I have to say that Connor is simply amazing and awe inspiring! He's a single dad at a very young age and he does such an amazing job at taking care of his little girl. He sacrifices so much just to make sure she is happy, and that's just only one of the many things that will make you fall in love with Connor. You'll need to read this book to see how really amazing he is!
Gianna is something else. I didn't really like her in the beginning, but you eventually start to understand her. She's definitely your stereotypical spoiled rich kid. She's partied and done all sorts of drugs, and pretty much gets anything she could ever ask for. However the one thing she really wants and needs, is the only thing she never gets.
These two are thrown together for a project in their drama class, and things start to get interesting when they spend more and more time together.
The more time their together, the more their wanting to take things forward. The only thing is though, they both have secrets their unwilling to share. Will they ever cross that barrier and be able to put trust in each other?
Their secrets aren't the only thing that gets in there way. Gianna is used to having all the money in the world. Connor works himself to the bone just to make sure his daughter has everything that she needs. How can he make Gianna happy if he can't give her what she's accustomed to? I mean, money is what makes everyone happy right?
These two have many hurdles in their young lives. Will they be able to face each hurdle together and break them down? Or will they let these hurdles break them apart?
This book has definitely become one of my favorite books from Xavier! It's simply amazing how she has this amazing ability to bring her characters to life in each and ever one of her stories!
**FAIR WARNING** You will need a box of Kleenex while reading this book!
**ARC was provided in exchange for an honest review**
I had to take a day before I jumped in to write this review...I don't know where to start!!! This book was amazing and I have a serious book hangover right now ....I want to read it again!!! I LOVED Connor!!! I love all of Xavier's books but something about this book just really pulled at my heart strings! Maybe I am a sucker for Cinderella stories but this is so NOT your typical Cinderella story!!
Connor has had a hard life, he's an 18 year old single Dad who is basically raising his addict mother as well as his 3 year old daughter. When he gets paired up with the richest girl in school on an acting assignment, he thinks things could't possibly get any worse, but they learn they have more in common than they originally thought!
Xavier should put a warning label on all of her books letting her readers know that they will be sucked in from page one and end up neglecting everything they had planned on doing...her books are just that good!!! I read this in one sitting even though I had SOOO much to do!!! I recommend this to anyone who believes in following their dreams and loves a happy ever after! <3
Cinderella who????? I kid you not i would rather watch this a movie then the actual Cinderella. I love how you got to see it from a guys point of view instead of a woman's. I took to Conner right away, sweet loving father. who wouldn't want that. i had tears in my eyes from the begining to the end. Xavier you really out did this story, I hope there is more to this but if not that is ok too. Mak is the cutest little girl you will ever meet and i just wanted to snatch her up and keep her. that little girl had me wrapped up on her finger from the moment she popped up in the book. Gianna didn't catch a piece of my heart til a bit later in the book but she she did redeem her self. I wish i could give you more than 5 stars.. But i can't..
This story was amazing!!! It touched every part of my soul!! I shed tears of sadness and tears of joy!! Conner is a single teenage father who is struggling to make ends meet. He has aspirations to become an actor and is partner with Gianna who is a spoil rich girl that is running away from her past in a school competition. The struggle that Conner faces on a daily basis and the disapproval of their relationship from Gianna parents puts Conner faith to the test!! This story will take you on an emotional roller coaster!!
Great story about finding what's important in your life! Connor has had it tough - losing his dad young, a now distant mom, and raising a young child on his own is not what every 18 year-old should have to think about. Missing out on all the things teenagers should be doing, he has taken his responsibility and shouldered the burdens he's been dealt. Gianna once thought she had the perfect life - famous and "loved" by everyone! But being in the spotlight at an early age can take it's toll on you, and she was forced to find another way to live. Being thrust together for a school project, Connor and Gianna have to find a way to get along - especially since neither wants to open up about their pasts. Beautiful story, and awesome take on the "Cinderella" story. Xavier has done it again!
I received this book in return for an honest review.
What a powerful story! Connor is an amazing young man doing the best he can with the hand life dealt with. Gianna is a rich girl tired of having to act out to get the love and support from her parents she shouldn't have to work for. The two of them are strong for each other. Helping to heal past hurts for one another while trying to build the best possible life for little Mak. This book is a tear jerker, but in the best possible way. The moral of the story is to go for what you want in and out of life. Let nothing, even yourself, stop you. You get the happily ever after you allow yourself to have. That's a fantastic way to look at it! Another BIG win for Xavier Neal!!
I was given a gifted copy in exchange for an honest review. Really enjoyed this retelling of Cinderella but in a guys POV. Xavier can obviously write just about any genre and it really shows in this story. Its not too often we read stories about young guys who become single dads at the age of sixteen and really try to better there lives but that's what we get with Connor. I could just feel the emotions coming from the pages I didn't full out ugly cry reading this touching story but there were a few times I had tears in my eyes. Gianna at first I didnt really like her but towards the middle of the book she really started to turn around. All in all a real enjoyable page turning book.
This is a new kind of story from Xavier! This book is HEART-RENDING! Prepare to have tissues ready when you read it. Sometimes, a book really doesn't need a hot sex scenes and this is one of those books! I fall in love and cry with Connor, Mak is like a rainbow after the rain and then there's Gi.. I really like how raw the emotions involved in this story, how the author's shows the aftermath of our teenage actions and to never stop dreaming and that it depends in our hearts and mind, to have a happy ever after.
there aren't enough words to describe how great of a book this was..Xavier Neal can write her ass off..I these characters. Connor was a young boy but turn into a man before his time. over comes many things and stays as strong as he can. I was so into this book..I hated to see it end...such a great read...I love everything by Xavier Neal but it seems like each book is always better then the one before..lol..Cinderfella is most definitely one click worthy
It's another must read for Xavier Neal!!! She made the classic story and made a spin on it that made my heart melt. You will fall in love with Connor the second you start the book, Gia takes a little more but once you see the chemisty they have it's a win win. This is such a sweet book and shows you the one of the golden rules :Don't judge a book by its cover! I will not give any spoilers because I think you need to read the book and fall in love like I did!!
ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!!! I can't say enough about it. I think this is probably my favorite by Xavier!!! It made me cry, laugh, mad and at the end very happy!!! I don't believe in spoilers so you just have to read it! you won't be disappointed.I could not put it down.
There are not enough words to say how i feel about this book. I started it and honestly couldn't stop reading it, besides the times i got up for tissues, and for the wine needed about 80% through the book(you've been warned, wish someone would have warned me to have the wine and tissues on hand from the start)!
As a person who was a single parent at 16 years old this book really struck a nerve with me and i absolutely love how raw and real this book was about all the trials and tribulations you have as a young parent no matter if your the mom or the dad!
In a modern day Romeo and Juliet story poor Connor is working so hard to secure a future for his daughter and to make sure she is happy and well loved while battling to also help save his mother from herself and pull her from the past that she buries herself in with alcohol, drugs and bad men. Then Gi Gi struggling with her own parental issues and personal problems while trying to discover her own self worth and then finds it in the last place she thought she would, with the last guy that she thought she would.
I've read everything by Xavier Neal and let me tell you, she NEVER lets me down. She writes in a way that pulls you into the story line and keeps your interest until the book is done. Honestly i don't think i have ever started a book by her and been able to put it down for more then a few hours before it pulls me back!
I do not know where I should begin with. I have several things to say at the same time. This book is not just a story for me. While reading this, my poor heart had to undergo several emotions. It starts off with just normal teenage life, but at the story proceeds you see our main character, Connor, who is quite young - taking care of a child. He is supposed to be enjoying his teenage life, but no, he loves his little girl. His father had long abandoned him, and the mother seems distant.
We have another character of Gianna who thinks highly of herself. She absolutely dislikes Connor. And the odds are not in anyone's favor since these two are stuck with each other on a acting project.
As the story proceeds, you are thrown into a rollercoaster of so many emotions. I can hug Xavier for writing such a good story with a underlying message, but at the same time, I want to yell at her. My poor heart has taken a lot of suffering. And I am sure Xavier is enjoying these reactions. LOL
But I am completely being honest here. This book is so much more than the stories we usually read. I won't divulge more into the story because if I type everything, there would be nothing for you to read. I really look forward to more of Xavier's story.
I loved this book for many reasons and not just because I know this author. LOL
Really now! This book is amazing and I think anyone would find it interesting, because as much as we judge others and think we know everything, we don't! Not as much as we could with taking the time to find out.
I will definitely buy this book for my sister to read because if anything it comes with a powerful message, actually messages because there is not just one but many. At least that's what I've read. Fight for he life you want to lead, not the one that's easier to have and watch for the consuqences of your actions in everything. But most of all, don't be afraid to take the hard road.
Truly some powerful messages and O lok forward to read more of the books I actually have sitting on my kinde by Xavier. I think if this one was so powerful others can't be anything but. And at this moment I need powerful...
Ok where to start........I loved this story, I love reading from a male lov and I loved how the shoe is in the other foot, it's always the damsel in distress well not this one.
Connor is an 18 year old who is trying to become an actor who is a single father to his daughter Mac who is nearly 3 with an alcoholic and drug using mother. things do not come easy and money is extremely tight and Connor is doing everything he can. relying on school to get a good scholarship to better his life for his daughter and himself there is no time for dating. until he is paired with the rich girl who is so up herself his dream looks like it is about die. Gianna is also misunderstood, handed everything she wansts by her parents except there love she is on a disruptive path. Connor and gi find kinship that quickly develops to love, but can a girl from riches really fall for the boy in rags or is it all just some game to her because she is bored.

"Faith will take you exactly where you wanna be if you let it!"
Have you had that one book that you haven't wanted to end; and when it does your trying to flip the page, to then realise thats it? That's how I was when I finished this book!
This isn't xavier's regular style of writing, but don't be fooled, this book is truly a masterpiece!
Meet conner, in his 18 years of life he has had so much to deal with. Things that would cause a 'normal' 18 year old to go of the rails. But not conner; armed with his fathers words of wisdom, determination, hope and a lifetimes worth of love from one little lady he manages to turn life around.
tissues are a probable necessity, they definitely were for me:)
Xavier thank you for continuing to write amazing tales.
"It's about having faith, in letting life lead you where you want it to go. In reality, we all get our happily ever after, it just depends on where you decide to stop the story"
A rollercoaster ride of emotions, with characters that could be someone you know. Connor a teenage father who lives anything but the average teenage life. Gi, a rich girl with a secret, a past, and unknowingly a yearning for happiness. This is a fantastic read with a story that will have u, believing that even though a boy can make a mistake that he will have to commit to for the rest of his life, that mistake was his blessing in disguise. He became a man overnight with a maturity, and purpose that not only saves himself and Gi, but his mother who was lost in her own pain and grief. Connor is a role model for sons, and teenage fathers everywhere. I hope the schools add this to their summer reading lists, it leads to great eye opening conversations.. (ask my sons)
Do you believe in Fairy Tales? Well I am typically not the type to think fairy tales come true. Unfortunately my life has made me that way. Just like me so has Connor's life made him where he has a problem with believing in happy ever after. When he meets a princess (Gi), he wonders if it is alright to believe in what he thinks is impossible. This is one of those kinds of books you will finish wanting to read the next in the series (hopefully there is one hint hint). It is also one of those books you will end up saying "the moral of the story is....." It has been years since I have read a book where I feel comfortable in saying that there is a real meaning behind the book instead of just the story. Read and find out there really are books that have morals in this day and age.
Where was Conner Owens when I was in high school? That was the first thought I had when I finished the book. I didn't know what to expect with the book when I started reading it. I thought it was going to be a rags to riches story. But that wasn't the case at all. I was pleasantly surprised as the plot began to unfold. This goes with the saying, "Never judge a book by it's cover" Because you never know what you may find when you look hard enough. My heart broke for all the experiences that both Conner and Gianna had to go through. I have laughed, cried, and gotten angry while reading this book. Once again, Xavier Neal continues to blow my mind! She left me with a quote that I will not be forgetting any time soon!
Oh my gosh! I could NOT put this book down! A gender reversal with a twist! This book shows the struggle of not just being a single parent (male parent) but also the struggle of being a teen parent! So wonderfully written your constantly wonder what's going to happen next and don't want to put it down. The story of a young single father struggling with poverty and trying to provide all he can for his daughter. Connor decided to take his heart and hide it away, until he meet Gi! A rich little brat who for too long has gotten her way with everything. Watch as they fall in love and learn together what it takes to get their happily ever after!
This book is amazing for so many DIFFERENT reasons! First being the depth of character Conner has is remarkable i admire the strength and integrity he has, i honestly wish my nieces were old enough to read this so that they can see how a young man is supposed to behave. Second being the story plot in itself is one worth reading a young man coping from the loss of his father in an abusive home still doing his best to raise his daughter is one you dont see often, plus doing right by a young lady still trying to find her own way!!! Just make sure when you read to grab a box off issues and wish for a Conner of your OWN! :)
This was a fantastic book!! Xavier Neal scored another out of the park home run with this one!! Conner and Gianna will break your heart and put it back together in all in one book! Together they show us that rich or poor, young or old, we all have problems. Conner and Gianna are drawn together, despite their differences. And Xavier makes you feel like you are right there, going through it with them.
dammit it was like riding a roller coaster at first I didn't like Gia but as I continued reading I understood how and why she behaved the way she did, I couldn't help but fall in love with the characters. I laughed and screamed my way through this book, eeven ccoming cclose to throwing away my kindle. another fantastic read from Xavier Neal.
This is my first book by Xavier Neal and I can honestly say this was a CINDERFELLA story what a treasure I just read. I got this on the kindle unlimited to read.....now I HAVE TO CLICK TO BUY!!!!
