Il Vangelo secondo San Matteo è uno dei quattro vangeli canonici del Nuovo Testamento e uno dei tre vangeli sinottici. Narra della vita e del ministero di Gesù: ne descrive la genealogia, la nascita e l'infanzia, il battesimo e la tentazione, il ministero di guaritore e predicatore in Galilea, il viaggio a Gerusalemme, segnato dalla cacciata dei venditori dal Tempio e, infine, la crocifissione, la morte e la resurrezione. La tradizione cristiana attribuisce la composizione del vangelo a Matteo, uno degli apostoli di Gesù.

About the author

Matthew the Apostle is named in the New Testament as one of the twelve apostles of Jesus. According to Christian traditions, he was also one of the four Evangelists as author of the Gospel of Matthew, and thus is also known as Matthew the Evangelist, a claim rejected by most biblical scholars, though the "traditional authorship still has its defenders." The New Testament records that as a disciple, he followed Jesus, and was one of the witnesses of the Ascension of Jesus. Later Church fathers such as Irenaeus and Clement of Alexandria claim that Matthew preached the Gospel to the Jewish community in Judea, before going to other countries.

Per quanto sia strano recensire un Vangelo, alcuni aspetti interessanti:
- la continua messa in discussione dell'autorità;
- l'elogio dei margini.

non si sforza di essere avvincente e le parabole più interessanti non sono qui, ma negli altri vangeli. però c'è gesù che maledice un albero di fico e dice che i ricchi non vanno in paradiso (19:23-24)
