Moral of the Story of Little Red Riding Hood: “One sees here that young children, Especially pretty girls, Who’re bred as pure as pearls, Should question words addressed by men. Or they may serve one day as feast For a wolf or other beast. I say a wolf since not all are wild Or are indeed the same in kind. For some are winning and have sharp minds, Some are loud, smooth or mild. Others appear plain kind or unriled. They follow young ladies wherever they go, Right into the halls of their very own homes. Alas, for those girls who’ve refused the truth: The sweetest tongue has the sharpest tooth.” Charles Perrault (1628–1703)
The MCs in this Fiery Tale didn’t have the intense, deliciously erotic chemistry that I found in A Midnight Dance and Sleeping Beau and because of that, the story was a bit of a disappointment for me. Still, it was a sexy re-telling of Little Red Riding Hood, my favorite old school fairy tale, and for that reason alone there were things I liked about the story. I loved the sisters and enjoyed the unexpected angst. The opening scene was amazing and I was pulled in by the subtle game of a dangerous, mysterious wolf sizing up his intended prey.
Henriette turned back. “Who?” Who indeed. Anne was the last person to be taken in by a handsome face, but she couldn’t stop herself from trying to locate the man with the disarming gray eyes. Smoky eyes that had locked with hers for several seconds and quickened her pulse. […] Twice he’d drawn her attention out of the masses straight to him by doing nothing more than directing his smoldering gaze her way. […] Both times the beautiful dark-haired stranger had been at a distance in a different part of the Great Room, but she felt the heat of his regard long before she spotted him.
Over the Comtesse’s shoulder, there at the back of the room, was the mysterious man. His eyes captured hers and held her riveted, the corner of his mouth lifting into a sensual smile. Her stomach fluttered wildly. The crowd shifted and he disappeared from her seeking sight, instantly snapping the spell he’d cast.
A good story with a nice surprise at the end but overall it just didn’t quite live up to its potential for me.
There is really not much to say other than that I think Lila DiPasqua is one of the best historical erotica writers, and I am very glad she has released her novellas separately - though I would still urge you to get the full Fiery Tales collection. I have re-read these countless times (something I only do with absolute favorites) and am still impressed with the depth of passion and feeling in her novels and novellas.
I have long been a fan of Lila DiPasqua. She is one of the queens of historical erotic romance.
This author is very skilled in writing erotic romance and definitely keeping the romance. Don't get me wrong. She definitely has some racy and titillating sex scenes. But it is not all about the sex. You can actually see the bond growing between the heroine and the hero.
This book does not disappoint. Keeping to her style, Lila Dipasqua creates a passion filled book set in French historical.
Based loosely on the fairytale Little Red Riding Hood, this book will definitely make you look for a big bad wolf.
I found the author's inspirations quite interesting: "Little Red Roding Hood" tale and the soft spot of King Louis XIV for clever women.
Lila DiPasqua's sensual writing is a must. Overall it's a good book to read with mystery, chemistry, passion, plot twists and a HEA (an epilogue was missing tho).
This is book six in the "Fiery Tales" series by Lila DiPasqua. I have been jumping around in the series so I feel this is a standalone book. Lila DiPasqua is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. Ms .DiPasqua books hits the heart strings, are very hot, always great secondary characters and just all around great books. This book is putting spin on Little Red Riding Hood in the way of Nicolas de Savignac, Count of Lambelle being the wolf, as that is his nickname. The heroine Anne has red hair for her part. Nicolas and his friend are working for the King to find out who the author is that is writing stories/books against some of the men. Nicholas is to arrest the person who is doing the writing. So it is narrowed down to three sisters that are staying at his estranged Grandmother's house. There Nicholas finds himself attracted to the middle sister but he still plans to go through pretending he is there for his grandmother while investigating her and her sisters. Anne has been hurt before and her writing is done with the help of other women who have been hurt by men. Anne is bring their story to life and keep every identity secret. I don't think you can go wrong with this book if you love a hot story!
Little Red Writing is the 6th book in the Fiery Tales series by Lila DiPasqua. All the books in the series are inspired by a fairy tale, this one's inspiration being Little Red Riding Hood.
The wolf in the story is Nicolas de Savignac, Count of Lambelle. His nickname is the wolf. He is one of the King's Musketeers and he is determined to prove himself worthy of becoming the Captain of the Guard. He and a fellow guard have been given the mission of discovering the identity of and arresting the person writing scandalous stories about powerful courtiers.
Anne is one of three sisters. She has luscious red hair, so is our red riding hood. The stories that she writes under a pen name for anonymity are not just scandalous stories. They are stories told to her by women who have been terribly wronged and hurt by men who get away with it purely because of their gender. At least getting their stories told, albeit with names changed, gives the women some kind of closure over the hurt they have dealt with.
Anne and her sisters are under suspicion from the crown, and they currently live with none other than Nicolas' grandmother. A grandmother he is estranged from. A ruse is performed and she leaves town for a while, which allows Nicolas to visit the house, supposedly to see and reconcile with her. He of course is in plain clothes, his Musketeer identity kept secret. He knows his grandmother isn't there, that was his plan after all, and after a heartfelt story told by him about how he would like to stay and wait for her return so that they could build bridges, the sisters are beholden to him to allow him to stay there.
That is where the story takes off. Nicolas and fellow musketeer, Thomas, have to dig around for their investigations, and they have to make sure the women have no inkling of what they are doing. The problem is that Nicolas and Anne immediately feel a lust for each other. A lust that over the duration of his stay may start to turn into more than just that. The longer he investigates the women, the more he gets involved in their lives, especially Anne's. He doesn't want to believe that any of them are the person the king wants arrested but the more evidence he finds the more he realises that one of them is indeed the writer. He doesn't want it to be Anne, but he equally doesn't want it to be her sisters because whoever ends up getting arrested, and when the truth comes out about why he is really there, he is going to lose Anne.
This novella captured my attention from the very beginning, it was such an intriguing story, and the sexual pull between Nicolas and Anne could set a paperback alight....good job I was reading on my Kindle!! The passion between them when it happened was much more than just sex, it was written really well, and the chemistry between them just sizzled. They might not have realised it from the start, but they weren't just having sex, they were making mad passionate, insanely good love! The author manages to get you to feel the emotions between them rather than just making you think they are indulging in sex because they lust for each other. Emotions run rife throughout the whole story, not just between the couple, but between the sisters, the women who want their stories told, plus between the grandmother and Nicolas who do indeed get to see each other during the tale. Do they reconcile? Will Anne ever be able to forgive him when the truth of his mission comes to light? Will Nicolas be able to do his duty to the King and make an arrest? You will have to read the book to find out.
I haven't read any of the other books in this series, but after this one, I am definitely going to play catch up, and patiently await further books to come. If they are all like this one, I will be one very happy reader.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This was a short, sweet, and steamy romance set during the time of Le Roi Soleil in France. Nicolas is a big bad rogue, also known as le Loup (the Wolf) because of his legendary skills as a member of the King's elite private Guard. He is assigned to discover the true identity of the author who is writing and publishing scandalous stories about noblemen. His investigation leads him to his estranged grandmother's house, where he meets Anne, a beautiful poetess...who might also be the author behind those stories. The fact that there is a powerful attraction between them poses no problem for Nicolas...or at least that's what he initially thought.
I really enjoyed this story overall! It was super steamy, but there were also some sweet and intimate moments between Anne and Nicolas. I enjoyed the time period immensely and I think the writer did a great job with her historical research. My French history lessons from University kept coming back to me lol.
It took me a while to get used to DiPasqua's writing style because she writes a lot of short and sharp sentences as a means for emphasis. She also tends to adopt a flow of consciousness writing style, but I'm thinking that's mostly out of necessity since it's a novella. But to my surprise, it wasn't hard to navigate or follow. It merely took some getting used to. Overall, Lila DiPasqua indeed delivers a short, delicious, and enjoyable fiery tale. If you're looking to read a short and steamy fairy tale retelling, then I recommend this one!
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Well written, very enjoyable. Nicolas needed to arrest the person illegally writing nasty stories about the nobility, and he found himself at his estranged grandmothers house investigating her and the three women living with her. His plan was to use Anne to get evidence, not fall in love with her. But an arrest had to be made.
I enjoyed this spicy rendition from Red Riding Hood! This is a delicious version from one of my favorite author! Her storyline is a captivating page turner. This love story left me wanting more!
I love these Fiery Tales. Lila DiPasqua is a favourite of mine, she writes sexy stories that I love to read. This is another super read, and the covers are so beautiful. 5☆
Kobo+ Books I own. Mad About Series HRBC Challenge 2025. Tropes: Novella,Historical Romance, Fairytale,Foreign Country (France), Love at First Sight, Disguise, Law Enforcement/Military (Musketeers)
MC's. h. Anne de Vignon, a writer of poetry and an underground story's series about women wronged by powerful men, by the penmame Gilbert Leduc. Her sisters also live with her, Henriette, a widow and Camille a maiden. They live with their patroness Comtesse de Cottineau. H. Nicholas de Savignac, Comte de Lambelle, one of the King's Musketeers, friend Thomas , Comte de Gamory on assignment with him.
This is a novella based on the Fairytale "Little Red Riding Hood". The MC's Anne has Red Hair, Riding is Writing (she is an author), The Grandmother is Nicolas's grandmere (who he is estranged with), Nicholas is the Wolf.
These novella's and novels are known as the Fiery-tales for the sexy erotic love scenes. The French are known for love and it probably originated during this time period 1600-1700 when Charles Perault wrote all his famous fairytales.
Nicholas and friend Thomas both Muskateers were to find the author Giles Leduc who wrote negative but truthful stories about male aristocrats living in France, powerful friends of the King Louis XIV. They were to arrest the person and take him (her) to the King for judgement.
The chase led him to his own estranged Grandmere's home. He sent her on a wildgoose chase so she wasn't home when Nicholas and Thomas arrived at the mansion telling his grandmother's charges Henriette, Anne and Camille they had come to reconcile with his grandmere.
They stayed in the mansion and Nicholas was delighted with Anne because she was a red headed beauty with all the right curves and beautiful eyes. There was an attraction between the two of them. After only two days they became lovers.
Meanwhile Thomas and Nicholas searched to house for evidence proving Giles Leduc's alias was one of the 3 sisters. They found evidence Anne was the author. This upset Nicholas greatly as he had fallen in love with Anne. He didn't want to turn her in but what choice did he have?
Grandmere arrived home and recognized her grandson, informing her charges that he was a Musketeer. He told Anne he would have to arrest her. Everyone including his grandmother offered to turn themselves in. Anne insisted it be her.
However she felt betrayed and heartbroken. She had just come to know love again and poof it went up in smoke. Could she ever trust another man again?
The love story was short and sweet with a conflict to be resolved. The love scenes were the best part and very well written. I gave this 4 stars because of the love scenes being exceptional.

A surprisingly cute and steamy (loose) retelling of Little Red Riding Hood.
🐺 Nicholas - a Musketeer among the French kings private guard, sent to figure out which of the three sisters is the secret author of illegally published stories ridiculing and highlighting the evil deeds of certain aristocrats.
👩🏻🦰 Anne - a suspect he needed to investigate and arrest, one of three sisters.
Two people that were not looking for love, yet unexpectedly fell in love. They were absolutely perfect for each other. There are 3’ish steamy scenes in this little story, and I just love how this author is able to write them so descriptively, in that it showcases their emotions so well. I don’t want to give away too much of the plot, as it’s a short 100-pg story. So I’ll leave you with these random excerpts:
🔥“His eyes were closed, and on his handsome face was the undeniable expression of rapture. She’d done that to him. Joy filled every empty chamber in her heart. Making him desperate for her had been, as he’d said, a “heady rush.” He opened his eyes, his usual knee-weakening half-smile forming on his lips the moment he met her gaze.”
🔥“Pleasure roared through his system. His heart hammered hard.”
🔥“Finally spent, his legs shaking, his breathing as erratic as hers, Nicolas lifted his head and met her gaze. A smile shone on her beautiful face. “I’ve never felt anything like that,” she whispered. Neither had he. Softly, he kissed her mouth, sounds of contentment emanating from them both. This was unlike any sexual experience he’d ever had. It was more than just a sating of his body. The fulfillment he felt went as deep as his heart and soul. He needed more of this. More of her. He’d found the perfect bliss.”
😍 “Repeatedly, she’d turn, seek him out in the crowd, and smile when she met his gaze. It sent a jolt of joy to his heart each time.”
I do like a musketeer, something really sexy about those swashbuckling, uniformed boys. I enjoyed the internal turmoil our MMC was put under and the sex was hot. This book did seem like the story needed to be longer, the reconciliation with the grandma felt extremely rushed. And I think despite how much Nicolas loved Anne, I think it would’ve taken him longer to realize that what he was in the habit of wanting, and what he actually wanted, we’re no longer in alignment. Did Thomas and Camilla get together? I want to know!
Man, what more can I say? Lila DiPasqua, in my opinion, is one of the best erotic historical romance writers today. This novella, like many of hers I read before, features steamy hot lovemaking scenes as well as a beautiful love story that even challenges the King's power :)) I mist admit I didn't love "Little Red Writing" as much as I loved other 5-star-rated books by Ms. DiPasqua, but all in all, this story was still enthralling enough to keep me devour it till the end!
It's not the best historical erotic romance I've ever read, but it was really entertaining...The romance was not as well developed but the love scenes were really really hoooot and therefore three stars..
The overall story is ok, but ladies, let me tell you that the sex is hot, hot, HOT! Loved it 🔥🔥🔥 Also, I'm a big fan of the historycal setting of these novellas, 17th century France (aka le roi Soleil reign).
I enjoy the storyline from Red Ridding Hood . The lustful attraction they have towards each other and heartbreaking confession of lies and deceit; her true identity as the writer he was going to arrest & his identity as a musketeer of the King.
A big, bad rogue on a mission and a ravishing woman is his quarry, what starts in seduction, and a powerful undeniable desire quickly turns to a passionate love story. I enjoyed the story and the sensual chemistry between Nicholas and Anne.
I'm really struggling with whether to give this 3 stars or 4. Up until the last chapter or two, I would have easily said this was a 4-star book. It's short, it's a fun steamy read, and I like DiPasqua's insertion of historical details and people to make the story feel more plausible. I also like the fairy tale theme of her stories, even if they are really only loosely based on them. I liked the premise of this one; a group of sisters write scandalous stories under the patronage of a noble lady that they must keep secret, as their publication is illegal. I didn't know a lot about females and the French salon culture, and this actually led me to look up and read more on that subject. I thought the story was pretty good for a novella, and the h was very likeable.
So what's the problem? You the reader learn from the get-go that the H, Nicolas, is trying to figure out which of the sisters is writing the illegally published stories and turn her into the king. We also know that Anne is responsible for the stories. Of course, he and she get caught up in a relationship, and you know that things are going to have to come to a head at some point and get messy. (Heh. Puns.) I saw where this was going. What I didn't predict was the fact that Perhaps if this was a fully-fleshed out novel (which it could have been with a bit more meat to it- heh more puns!) that wouldn't have occurred so abruptly, but it left me kind of cheesed off. I mean, yeah, they love each other*, but I personally would have required a lot of time and serious grovelling, not to mention some other proof that he was going to be trustworthy from that point onward. Mainly due to this, I'm going with 3 stars. I did like it, but I wish it would have either been more developed into a full-length novel or something different would have transpired at the end to make Nicolas not such a....useless bum?
*Their falling in "love" here requires some suspended disbelief on the part of the reader. Having a passionate affair does not mean that you love someone, and their relationship here is based pretty much solely on physicality and maybe Anne's poems. Not a lot of substance.
I do like what DiPasqua does, and I will continue to read her stories. They're fun.
I have to thank Mary of Buried Under Romance for letting me know that this title was on sale -- Lila DiPasqua had been on my radar for a while, and I was intrigued by the premise of this book.
Nicolas de Savignac is the ambitious musketeer tasked with uncovering the identity of Gilbert LeDuc, who has been printing scandalous and incendiary (but true) narratives about some of France's most prominent men. He has narrowed the list down to three people: sisters, who regularly attend his estranged grandmother's literary salon. Anne, Henriette, and Camille all have a reason to be Gilbert LeDuc -- they've all encountered the worst examples of the male gender, and would be justified to take revenge by writing about them -- but, which of the them is actually doing the writing?
Le Loup, as Nicolas is known among his fellow Musketeers, earned his reputation as relentless: once he has a goal in mind, he will stop at nothing in order to achieve it, and Nicolas has a lot to prove: his late older brother was one of the best Musketeers, and Nicolas wants to exceed him in every way. But, when Nicolas meets Anne, his resolve falters.
Anne feels the same intense physical attraction as Nicolas, and desire becomes his greatest ally, and obstacle -- his liaison with Anne allows him to access into her rooms and into her heart, but Nicolas is also afraid of what he might discover.
Lila DiPasqua portrays Nicolas's confusion as he wrestles with his duty to the king and his desire for Anne, which he knows is more than just a passing fancy.
Nicolas de Savignac, Count of Lambelle is a musketeer. When it's discovered that shocking stories attacking members of the elite are linked to his estranged grandmother, he's anxious to take the case. Not only will he prove his worth to the King but he can finally get revenge on the grandmother he's resented all these years. He never expected to find out the possible author of these stories is a woman he can't resist. Anne de Vignon, with the help of her sisters, writes scandalous stories, under a pseudonym, about men of the upper class who have wronged the women they were involved with. Having been used and discarded herself, Anne feels it's her duty to help these women by sharing their stories. When her patroness's grandson appears at a weekly Salon, Anne is distrustful. But soon she falls victim to his seduction. And boy, is it steamy! As their relationship intensifies, so do their feelings for one another. Anne is ready to tell Nicolas everything and Nicolas is ready to do whatever it takes to protect Anne. I had previously read books 1 and 4 in this series. These are all stand alones and can be read in any order. Lila DiPasqua is a master storyteller. She has a true gift for taking a fairy tale and putting a sensual twist to it. If you're looking for a steamy regency read, you'll be thrilled with this series. I look forward to reading the rest. A Book Obsessed Chicks Review Team Selection
Little Red Writing is the fifth erotic novella based on the fairy tale of Little Red Riding Hood. Based in France 1685, it is a short but delightful story that captures the imagination.
A Midnight Dance - 3 stars Undone - 3+ stars: Liked this book better than first and fourth. The Duke's Match Girl - 5 stars Sleeping Beau - 3 stars Little Red Writing - 4 stars
Nicolas de Savignac, Count of Lambelle, is an ambitious Musketeer on a mission to prove himself worthy of becoming Captain of the Guard. He is a relentless Hero both in and out of the bedroom. However Nicolas's resolve falters when the Heroine gets under his skin.
Anne de Vignon is a red-haired Poetess who also writes scandalous stories under a pseudonym. She feels it's her duty to expose the powerful upper class men who wrong their women. Anne is a Heroine who is disenchanted with love but doesn't deny herself an affair for her own pleasure. I found the conversation she had with her sisters about starting this affair quite refreshing.
Nicolas and Anne have an undeniable chemistry from the start. I thought their sexy times were more than just physical pleasure early on also. It involved exposing their growing feelings for each other which made for a more vulnerable and convincing romance.
I recommend this series to readers of the historical romance genre.
Nicolas de Savignac, Count of Lambelle, is on a mission for the King. Someone is writing scandalous stories about the nobleman at court and he is to track him/her down and bring them to the palace. He never imagined the the writer might be the woman he is falling in love with.
Anne and her two sisters are writers and they are exposing the men that act horribly toward the woman in their lives. When Nicolas shows up says that he wants to mend fences with his estranged grandmother, Anne doesn't know any different. But from the first moment they laid eyes on each other, the air practically crackled around them.
What will happen when Anne learns the truth about why Nicolas is in his grandmother's home?
I love this series by DiPasqua! I love how she has taken popular fairy tales and put her spin on them.
Little Red Writing is a quick, very hot read!! Pick it up, you won't be disappointed!
Thanks go out to the author via NetGalley for a copy of the book in exchange of an honest review.
REVIEW PROVIDED BY: Kelly NUMBER OF HEARTS: 4 3/4 Another great Fiery Tale story by Ms. DiPasqua. I love Ms. DiPasqua’s ability to take a story that we all know and love and twist it, turn it and turn up the heat. I really enjoyed Nicolas and Anne’s story. I loved that the Wolf in this story is fierce, determined and will do anything to complete his mission. Red is equally as fierce, yet she is witty, kind and able to out fox the Wolf. I don’t want to tell too much or give too much away. But if you like your stories hawt, you hero hotter and your heroines strong and brave you need to pick up this story and find out why they are called Fiery Tales.
Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley & Lila DiPasqua in exchange for an honest review. This review is my own opinion and not a paid review.
After trying to read 2 other Fiery Tales, I had almost given up entirely. Then I stumbled across Little Red Writing... Anne de Vignon is a spinster with a chip on her shoulder. A skilled & published author, she loved a man whom used her and left without a second glance.
Writing under a fictitious name, with the help of her two sisters, she illegally publishes pamphlets that air out the Aristocrats dirty laundry. No man is spared under her pen.
Nicknamed, Le Loup (the wolf), Nicolas de Savignac is on the hunt for the elusive Gilbert Leduc. His pursuit puts him directly in the path of the infuriatingly arousing Anne. Can Anne love again? Can she finally bury the chip or will Nicolas become a victim of Mr. Leduc?
This novella was 130 pages. It was decent and it read more like a sweet romance than a steamy after hours fairy tale. Nicolas & Anne were cute together. However, I am extremely more interested in Thomas & Camille. Hopefully they have a story.
