I received this book in exchange for an honest review. 'Bewitching in Boots' by Lila DiPasqua is book is book six in the "Fiery Tales" series. This is the story of Elisabeth de Roussel and Tristan de Tiersonnier, Count of Saint-Marcel. I have been jumping around in the series so for me this was a standalone book. This was another great book by Ms. DiPasqua! This is also a Novella book so it is just the right size to get your quick, hot romance read on! Elizabeth is a widower who thinks her father the King will soon try to marry her off again. Elizabeth is the favorite illegitimate daughter of the King so she knows it is just a matter of time. Unlike her last marriage Elizabeth does not want a cold marriage. Elizabeth has always carried a tender for Tristan and she has decided to try to seduce him. Tristan has a leg injury and is no longer a commander for the King and it really just giving up really. But now Elizabeth has descended on to his property under a false reason he knows for sure. Tristan does know Elizabeth but believes her to be something other than she is. Will Elizabeth win over Tristan? Will Tristan change his mind about what kind of women Elizabeth is? Loved this book and was so excited to read it!
Lila DiPasqua's books are always a big YES PLEASE for me. I agree that, due to the number of pages, characterization is sometimes sparse. However the pace, the humor and also the love between the main characters always captivate. I also like the historical contextualization that the author always does.
In this story the heroine shows that a pair of lucky boots and some courage can lead to a happy ending. I wouldn't mind reading 50 more pages about the hero 😏
This was a pretty big disappointment for me. I'd previously read Sleeping Beau and Little Red Writing, so I expected this to be similar. In a lot of ways, I guess it was- it was a quick novella, it took place in late 17th century France, it had a historical inspiration, it was based on a fairy tale, and it had some pretty steamy content. The glaring difference between this one and the two I'd read prior, though, was that the plot and character development in this one was pretty darn weak. The h goes to the H's manor house specifically to seduce him, succeeds pretty easily, and with one minor hiccup that is forgotten super quickly, everything wraps up in a neat bow with them The only thing that is described in any detail is- well, you know- and it is downright explicit to the point of eye rolling. I'll spare providing an excerpt, so just be forewarned that there is a LOT of that here, and it resembles FSOG (I assume, since I haven't read it) or something very modern more than HR. There was that in the last two I read as well, but there were also more dynamic characters and more conflict and more substance to those two. This was hard to take even remotely seriously. What's a major bummer is that it was based on a real person in history, and I think if the story had been more fleshed out (pun not intended) and the focus been more on the fencing and a building of something more believable between the MC's, this could have been something much better. There were also a handful of typos that bugged me- words being repeated, words being present that should have been omitted- that sort of thing. Honestly it felt like the steamy stuff was written first and everything else was hastily built around it, and not very well. I would definitely not recommend this unless someone was reallllly in to that sort of thing, and probably not even then because I'm sure there's better erotica out there.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Interesting and sweet storyline of a secret love, a king's bastards and payback. I love Lila's stories, they are so well written, amusing and fun. And I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Interesting and sweet storyline of a secret love, a king's bastards and payback. I love Lila's stories, they are so well written, amusing and fun. And so worth reading.so worth reading.
Elisabeth has a fiery personality that I came to admire and love. as the king’s favourite daughter, she has learned the ways of the court and survival methods. she took her younger sister under her wing to Ensure that Claire wouldn’t be exposed to the manipulative nature of the court, thus showing how caring she is. Elisabeth knows what she wants and who she desires, and bravely took the steps to achieve her goals.
after an injury, Tristan was no longer the king’s commander. he had been wallowing in his sadness until the day Elisabeth came and wrecked chaos in his life, bringing him the thrill and excitement back to him once again. He had preconceptions about Elisabeth, thinking that she’s spoiled since she’s the favourite daughter of the king. he’s an honourable man.
the passion between the two of them is carnal and absolute. there’s no hiding it, and they didn’t bother to. although their story is short, there’s no questioning on the authenticity of their feelings. I liked them together.
Bewitching In Boots is a very sensual story - with Elisabeth and Tristan. Really graphic sex. There seemed to be a lot of "thrusting". I think, for me, this was the best Fiery Tales I have read so far. A very sexy story. 5☆
I love fairy tale retellings and Lila DiPasqua's Fiery Tales series is like no other: they are sensual, scorching hot erotic historical romances taking place in France under the reign of Louis XIV. Thanks to Lila's descriptive yet flowing writing, the reader lives and breathes in the midst of the grandeur of the court and its scheming, libertine courtiers. Don't be mistaken, you most certainly will not get a boring history lesson, rather a passionate, sensual romance taking place in an exciting and sumptuous setting.
Bewitching in Boots is Book #6 in the series, but the stories are standalones, and can be read out of order as well. Bewitching in Boots is the (adult) novella retelling of Puss in Boots, and be warned: the novella (and the whole Fiery Tales series) is a quite graphic, erotic historical romance story, it's not for the faint-hearted. *wink*
Its heroine is Elisabeth de Roussel, favourite (illegitime) daughter of the king, who is a spectacular woman: she is strong willed, determined and brave. She has been fending for herself and her sister in the dangerous world of the royal court, where intrigues and backstabbing courtiers are the norm.
I was a bit disappointed that we did not get to know the hero as well as Elisabeth, we mainly got to see him through her eyes: how imposing, handsome and sexy he is. I would have enjoyed learning more about his thoughts and aspirations, but I accept that with a novella the possibilities for character development are limited.
Verdict: Bewitching in Boots is a sensual, fiery hot, erotic fairy tale retelling of Puss in Boots that you won't be able to put down. Have a fan or some cool lemonade on hand you'll be needing it!
Plot: 7/10 Characters: 8/10 Writing: 9/10 Ending: 8/10 - The ending was lovely, heartwarming, romantic and sizzling hot at the same time! Cover: 9/10 - I love this cover. The rich, vibrant colours, the passionate kiss, and those boots! Just perfect for the story.
MS DiPasqua takes us back to the courts of Louis XIV with the Puss in Boots tale very much in her thoughts this is a hot and steamy story in a world were woman and their possessions are owned and controlled by men but there is always the exception the strong woman who knows what she wants and goes for it. Sit back make yourself comfortable and enjoy Elisabeth de Roussel's story she is the favourite daughter of The King at the moment.
Elisabeth has decided that she will choose her next husband and she knows who she wants and has a plan to get her man the ex-commander of the King's private Guard the Musketeers Tristan de Tiersonnier who was injured and stood down, she must be careful about how she goes about it with her father Elisabeth's thoughts of Tristan are always hot and steamy so when she arrives at his chateau in men's clothing and the sexiest pair of boots to get fencing lessons Tristan is hard pressed to ignore her but he tries.
This is and erotic tale of determination and love neither own up to love willingly but when they realize they are in love you will be smiling. This is a wonderfully written short story that yes you will need a fan at the ready I thoroughly enjoyed this one as I have all of MS DiPasqua's stories and I highly recommend this one I have a soft spot for Tristan.
NUMBER OF HEARTS: 4 As always Ms. Di Pasqua writes an amazing story that draws you in and make you fall in love with her stories while giving you a history lesson all at the same time. If you have not read any of the other Fiery Tales don’t worry Bewitching in Boots (while connected to Little Red Writing) can easily be read as a stand alone. Tristan the ex-commander of the Musketeers and has sequestered himself off in his home and is broody about all he has lost. Elisabeth is a woman determined to get what she wants no matter what she has to do. What does she want you ask? She wants Tristan to be reinstated as commander of the Musketeers. Oh and she wants him in her bed. Tristan and Elisabeth were really fun to read. It was great fun to watch these two dance around each other and try to avoid what they both want. Can’t wait for the next installment in this series.
Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book from Lila DiPasqua in exchange for an honest review. This review is my own opinion and not a paid review.
Oh God I had been wanting to read this book since forever!!! And when I finally got to read it, I felt so excited and pleased, because when it comes to erotic historical romance, my queen Lila DiPasqua NEVER disappoints! :))
This book follows the author's tradition of retelling famous fairy tales, and this time, it is the story "Puss in Boots" that comes into play. I personally didn't remember this fairy tale, but who cares, since I got to read a scorching hot and emotional historical romance story between the former Captain of the Musketeers and a beautiful, courageous and intelligent French princess! Woo hoo!
Elisabeth, oh yeah, you gotta love her, for her being a princess, and a woman, like no other during the 17th century in France. She was strong, brave and smart (she was AMAZING with swords, beating countless men, by the way :D); she did what she wanted, she chose her lovers, she used everything she could to keep her life and her sister's on track. And when it comes to winning the heart of the man she had been in love with for a long time, she was completely determined.
But this journey wasn't just about winning the heart of Tristan (and later his hand in marriage :D); this is also about Elisabeth - the favorite daughter of King Louis XIV - learning how to shake off her fears and vulnerability of a woman being scared that loving a man would bring her downfall - to finally admit the feelings she had with Tristan and enjoyed the happy ending both of them deserved. This is why I love Lila DiPasqua's stories so much, because they aren't just about two lovers making love erotically; they're also about the heart, the human emotions, and the journey of the characters to grow and find happiness.
This is a novella, so you can read it in just one day (or one setting ^^). And the sex scenes, believe me, they are trademarked with Ms. DiPasqua's writing talent, and they are HOT (there is a little bit of BDSM and bonding, but very subtle, and described in the most sensual and beautiful way, so there won't be any discomfort :D).
Out of all the fiery tales books that I read, I enjoyed Elisabeth and Tristan's story the most. I always like a heroine that goes for what she wants and never backs down until she gets it. Tristan's also different from the other MCs of fiery tales.
I wish their story was longer though. My favorite part below.
Elisabeth and Julie d’Aubigny, the real life 17th century woman of whom Elisabeth’s character was loosely inspired by, were the best aspects of Bewitching in Boots. Everything else? Ehh, not so much. The hero was a disappointment, the romance was poorly developed and the love scenes weren’t half as good as I know DiPasqua is capable of.
After having read and loved Little Red Writing and Sleeping Beau, I can’t help but feel let down by the lackluster quality of this novella. It did not live up to its gorgeous cover, fairytale inspiration or fascinating backstory. Such a shame.
DNF in the middle of chapter 3. After reading and absolutely LOVING book 1 in this series, A Midnight Dance, I was excited to jump to this story. I see now in the book description that is an erotic novella. So that explains a lot.
Heroine - the king’s illegitimate daughter, widowed and has taken several lovers since, finds herself bored with those available at court. She hears that the hero’s mistress has left him for another, so she hops in the carriage dressed as Puss in Boots and heads over to his country home to seduce the poor unsuspecting guy. The main thing we know about her is that her panties get soaked every time the hero blinks in her general direction.
Hero - was the master of the kings private guard, but has a leg injury during an aborted assassination attempt so he was dismissed from his duties. He initially can’t stand the heroine, as he thinks she’s a spoiled vixen. But after seeing her nipples harden thru her blouse, he is all in for a romping good time.
Hero’s brother - got kicked out of seminary training for being caught multiple times in bed with two girls at the same time. Why... for shock value?
I’m undecided if I disliked this story so much because the heroine was a promiscuous little thing or that the plot was nonexistent except for creating cheesy erotica opportunities. Maybe both... Maybe if the heroine had been a virgin that was trying to win the hero over, maybe that would have been better…. Regardless, I was bummed out as I was looking for that same charm and wit that book 1 had had, that had me smiling thru the whole story. I can only recommend this if you’re looking for a quick 100 page thinly plotted pointless erotica.
Books I own, Kobo+. Mad About Series HRBC Challenge 2025. Tropes: Historical Romance, Novella, Foreign Country (France), Fairytale, Erotica, Enemies to Lovers, Widow, Law Enforcement/Military (Muskateers), Royalty, Disabled MC, h. Elisabeth de Rousel, Duchess, widow, illigitimate favorite daughter of King Louis XIV(Sun King), sister Claire and many 1/2 brothers and sisters. One rival sister Veronique. H. Tristian de Tiersonnier, Comte de Marcel, former Captain of the Muskateers, disabled with an injury saving the King. Is no longer the Captain, and resting at his Chateau with his brother Girourd and his Uncle Richard.
Opinion: Another Fiery Tale, based on Puss and Boots. An Enemies to Lovers story on the Heroin's part and a Love at First Sight on the heroine's part. I loved the sensual love scenes. No one write French love scenes better. These stories are short but get to the heart and bed right away. I gave this book 4 stars.

This was okay. Elisabeth has had a thing for Tristan for a while, so she decides she is going to finally get what she wants. She goes to him hoping to somehow either seduce him, get him to marry her or both. Tristan doesn't like Elisabeth based off of behavior he witnessed at court before he was hurt. It became clear that he wasn't as observant as he thought because she is not at all what he expected.
Of course, they fall into bed and feelings get involved, which Tristan definitely wasn't planning on. Now, how is she going to get the King, her father, to approve of the match?
This series is definitely getting better. There are still some repetitious phrases that are annoying throughout the series, but overall the chemistry is better and stories are more developed as the series goes on.
A woman who knows what she wants, a game of desire and heartfelt passion. I couldn't turn the pages quick enough for Elisabeth and Tristan to reach their happily ever after.
This truly change my opinion about novella, I usually prefer not to read novella because it's too short and too fast. However, Lila wrote it brilliantly!! 5 huge stars!
Book six in the Fiery Tales series is based in 17th century France, during the reign of Louis XIV, and inspired by the tale of Puss In Boots. The erotic novella is a short story that took real life inspiration from a female historical figure from that time.
A Midnight Dance - 3 stars Undone - 3+ stars: Liked this book better than first and fourth. The Duke's Match Girl - 5 stars Sleeping Beau - 3 stars Little Red Writing - 4 stars Bewitching in Boots - 5 stars
Elizabeth de Roussel, favourite daughter of the King, is a spectacular swordsman, and she is in love with the former ex-commander of the King's private Guard. Elizabeth is a forthright and determined Heroine so she plots to have her way in matters of the heart and position. The sense of entitlement that she exhibits, and her boldness, is because she is part of the Royal family.
Tristan de Tiersonnier, Count of Saint-Marcel, has a recent injury that is affecting his life. He is a subservient Hero to the King and the Royal family due to his former commanding position in the King's Guard so his character goes with the flow under the machinations of Elizabeth. He has to be a compliant character but, as a man, he's not a weak push-over. Tristan is oblivious to the distant unrequited love from Elizabeth, however he is soon swept up in a fast-paced romance that leads to sexy times aplenty.
“Inspired by the tale of Puss in Boots- -a hot historical romance novella from the acclaimed Fiery Tales series.” Duchess Elisabeth deRousseu is the kings favorite daughter. She gets what she wants and she wants the gorgeous Tristan de Tiersonnier, Count of Saint-Marcel. Elisabeth is a beautiful young widow and has always wanted Tristan but her father had other plans. She goes to his chateau to tell him the King wants him to teach her fencing skills. And on her arrival she is boldly dressed in breeches and sexy boots! I love Lila DiPasqua’s books! I’m reading them all and my only complaint would be that I wish she had an epilogue with a baby in her happily ever after ❤️
Lila DiPasqua does it again. Her writing is breathtakingly exquisite. The sexual tension between the hero and heroine is so extremely hot and sensual that i had to fan myself as I was reading this book. This book is about how a strong woman go after the man she wants. She is willing to do anything and I mean anything to entice him into her bed. This is a definite read for anyone who likes hot, steamy and intense erotic fiery tale historical romance. I received a ARC of this book for a honest review
I am normally okay with short stories and novellas, but this one was missing something. It needed to be fleshed out a little more. I really enjoyed this, but felt there were too many loose strings not tied up. No pun intended. Ha. I wanted acknowledgement of her "tell". I wanted more back story about why they didn't get along or why she hadn't tried before. I wanted to be shown and not told about their time together fencing, etc. Still it was sexy and fun.
Set in the late 1600's Versailles, this is a charming novella of unrequited love. Tristan and Elisabeth are well-developed characters full of intelligence and charm. The sexual chemistry is obvious between these two although feelings of love were a little less defined on Tristan's part until the end. Overall, this spicy take on a classic fairy tale was a delightfully fun and quick read.
This is a fast paced read a part of the Fiery Tales series. Elisabeth is the daughter of the King and normally get what she wants and she wants Tristan. Tristan however, has other plans and believes he knows what Elisabeth is up to. This was a fun and steamy read. I really liked it.
