The three novels in her Florida Fiction Series contain stories of Florida and its people and environment, which she credits as giving her a rich base for her storytelling. "Florida's quirky and abundant wildlife—both human and animal—supply my fiction with tales almost too weird to be believable."
Her contemporary romances in the Behind the Love series are also set in Florida. The novels in her most recent series, Smoky Mountain Romances, are set in the fictional town of Laurel, North Carolina. She is currently working on a new romance series, Rivals in Love. Join the Crandall family of Chicago as the siblings find love despite their focus on successful careers. Her Montauk Romances are set in and around Long Island and feature simple, yet sophisticated beach houses designed with romantic intent.
Civil War Journal from the 2nd Michigan contains the reminiscences of her great-grandfather, Harmon Camburn, who joined the Union Army on April 20, 1861. The book contains his journal as well as annotations about the war in general. She’s also included several appendices that add local context to the journal. Ms. Zick weaves stories that share her philosophy of living lightly upon this earth with love, laughter, and passion.
Adriana Moretti's husband Leo died a year ago and at twenty-five she is trying to continue on with his charitable work, including Habitat for Humanity.
Tomas Vegas is entering his second year playing third base for the Pittsburgh Pirates and seems to be known more for his supermodel girlfriend, Madrid, than his charitable associations. Yet Tomas attends an event where he meets Adriana and is immediately intrigued with the work she does.
Tomas realizes he wants to do more with his life and questions his relationship with Madrid who appears to be only interested in money. As Tomas and Adriana grow closer they must decide if they want a relationship and perhaps it may be safer to keep it quiet.
When it looks like someone is trying to sabotage any future for them, they must decide if they can put their trust in each other or are their past relationships going to get in the way?
The relationship between Adriana and Tomas is very hot!! I also loved how Adriana's charitable work brought her into situations with the elite of Pittsburgh's athletes of the Penguins and Steelers as well!
This was a good blending of sports and romance. Also, it brought to the forefront cultural prejudices and how overcoming them can be difficult. Adriana's roots were pure Italian and Tomas' roots were Spanish/Puerto Rican. While the fathers were more reasonable, both mothers wanted to keep the bloodlines pure ... and Adriana's mother would go to extremes to do it, along with the help of Adriana's former mother-in-law, Rose and Tomas' ex, Madrid.
👁 OBERRVATIONS:
Loved the baseball references/sections. They were good.
This will sound contradictory, but the book moved too fast while being too slow. Adriana fell in love with Tomas when she'd only been widowed a year or less. Way too fast to move on, IMO. However, I found myself skipping a lot to get past the shenanigan's of Rose, Carman and Madrid to get more into the story.
Madrid, the ex, was way too stereotypical. I skipped over her rants. I do wish she had been exposed. She needed a real comeuppance. (Yes I read the end, but that was nothing compared to her schemes, violence and duplicity.)
Adriana was like two people in one. She ran a huge company but couldn't handle her mother or mother-in-law. I understand the mother-in-law's angst more since her son had died recently, but I blamed Adriana for not standing up to them.
The games played were childish.... keeping secret things that needed to be out in the open. Child's play... how old are Adriana and Tomas? Actually, Tomas was a lot more mature in the story. Adriana no so much.
Adriane and Leo, work they did for the wounded warriors. Rookie Tomas leant his name for the Habitat for Humanity, but she haven’t meant him. On camera his smile and home runs for Pittsburg. Meeting him, when he asked how he could do more, like help build one of the houses. He felt honored to meet her that sounded like I was old, and wasn’t my thoughts about him, at all. They clash from the first minute they meet. She feels he is using the spotlight for publicity. His motive, was more photo’s, more money would be given. A good, enjoyable story, and will they realize they have the same goal, and attraction to each other.
This story started out with her working with Habitat for Humanity in her deceased he's name in a chatty that they both created before he died. She meets him at a fund raising. He plays baseball. And has a model for a girlfriend. But that all changes. He starts to see cracks in the models personality. After he breaks up with her he goes after the h. Now they have to deal with not only his ex but her mother and mother-in-law. And his mother. The drama has its ups and downs. Will they stay together? Or will the females get their way?
As an italian girl myself and a Pittsburgh native, I was totally drawn to this story. The details were spot on. Especially the pride we have for all of our sports teams here. I thought, “this book feels like home”. Right down to the italian mothers! The romance between Tomas and Adriana was beautiful and sweet. I can’t praise this book enough! I just loved it from beginning to end. I can’t wait for the next book “End Zone”
Familial discord and harmony. Multiculturalism. Friendship and loyalty. Relationship ups and downs. Philanthropy. And America's favorite pastime: Baseball.
P.C Zick has written an enjoyable and fun novella that includes all of the above and more. An action packed story around a third baseman and his baseball team and a woman and her philanthropic programs.
The author has brought together two wonderful main characters, their life passions, their cultural beliefs and practices and created a great duo. The parents...have mixed feelings about their relationship depending on who you ask. And their reasons for their beliefs vary widely.
While both main characters also have individuals and issues which come up from their past which also create a wedge between the two from time to time, in the end, Tomas and Adriana find a way to make their relationship work, their interests and passions bring about goodness and positive change for many others, and are able to bring their family members to a better understanding and acceptance of their relationship.
All of this takes place behind a wonderful and engaging baseball season that any baseball fan will definitely enjoy following and cheering for...
An engaging read on many levels, the author seamlessly brings together all the multi-stories that make up this novella. No story line is dropped or left unanswered. She is thorough in her descriptions, character development, and scene presentation allowing the reader to follow the multiple story lines easily.
A great novella that brings together so many aspects of life in a very realistic manner that any reader will enjoy reading this novella. A great beach read, rainy day read...or anytime or place read. And even if you aren't a baseball fan you will still enjoy this novella due to its multiple story lines. Highly recommend it.
