Have you ever tried telling a true story to your child in a way that she will not panic yet she is able to understand what happened in reality and prepare her for life? You need to put lots of effort and be prepared for dozen of “why?s and “what”s and “who”s. sometimes you even don’t know how or what to answer. This book is one of great examples written in a very simple yet complete information of tragedy occurred in The Famous Pompeii. Pompeii was an ancient Roman town in one of regions in Italy. It was not the only town destroyed and buried under volcanic ash but it was one the largest town that lost more lives in that horrific event. There are different theories where they say that people of these towns lost their lives because of the toxic gases from the volcano and/or they died because of high heat and/or people were suffocated by the volcano ashes. The town was buried under volcano ashes for 1500 years. It was discovered completely accidentally in 1599. Vesuvius Volcano is the only European mainland to have erupted within the last hundred years but is best known for its eruption in AD 79 (burying the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum and other towns). Today, it is regarded as one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world because of the population of 3,000,000 people living nearby.
We bought this book in the gift shop of the Coliseum before heading south to visit the ruins of Pompeii. I am so glad we made this purchase because the drawings in this book are so graphic with much to take in. My seven year old stared at each picture comparing the pages to his memory of the ruins he visited.
A great story geared towards young children to help them understand the devastation and majesty of a city frozen in time for all to see.
Just grabbed "Pompeii" by Karen Ball from the Young Reading Series 3, drawn in by my love for ruin stories. Read it the same day – a time-traveling adventure blending ancient history with modern storytelling magic. Ball gives you a backstage pass to Pompeii's drama, and the sturdy, fancy format makes you feel like a history VIP. A must-read for anyone who wants to chuckle through ruins while soaking up historical knowledge. It's the kind of adventure a time-traveling T-Rex would endorse! 📚✨
