TITLE: Never Give Up AUTHOR: Heidi Lis GENRE: Contemporary Romance RELEASE DATE: September 18th 2015
MY RATING: 4 STARS
**✿༻This is the first time I have read anything by this author**✿༻
Never Give Up: A realistic story about first love, heartbreak, lies and deception, and a second chance romance..
“The boy who stole my heart had left me with more than just memories. My life forever changed, and the physical and emotional scars are all I have left of him”
I like how the author has incorporated past and present into the story line, instead of just jumping into the here and now it's switching between the two and giving us a peek into their interaction with each other back in high school..
Five long years have passed
The one boy she has never been able to forget, the one boy she gave her heart to, the one boy who stole her heart, the one boy who wrote her a letter and disappeared out of her life, the one boy who broke her heart..Micah is that boy!!
Finally after so many years have gone past she's ready to move on with her life and her best friend Nick to see if they can establish a relationship without ruining their friendship..
BUT!!
Out of the blue a long lost voice is heard over the phone, Elsa's Monday goes from bad, to worse, first Micah's brother appears on the scene at work, then a phone call from Micah has Elisa's day crashing around her..
Micah’s voice breaks into his own set of sobs. Elsa, I need to talk to you. There are things you don’t know, and I need to tell you before you find out another way.
Just when you think her Monday can't get any worse it sky rockets out of control!!
What I enjoyed the most with this authors writing style is the emotional pull she drew out of me with these two characters turmoil, the mistakes they made were realistic for their ages, your heart will shatter for what Elsa endured at the age of sixteen, to really feel this story you need to put yourself in her shoes, feel how alone and abandoned she felt, no one to lean on, turn to, her parents thought she was a disgrace under the influence of a much older boy, he'd been in her life one minute and gone the next..Five years is a long time to hold a torch for someone but there's factors I'm not divulging in my review..
DNF @ 42%. I couldn't imagine it getting any better, so I had to quit.
Basic breakdown of storyline that includes spoilers:
And that's all I could handle folks.
Too much crying, I can't handle the keeping of major secrets and still being intimate, and frankly--I just didn't like either of them at this point. Sorry if I'm being cruel, but I just couldn't connect and it was starting to cause me feelings of frustration.
note to self: both h and H have sex with others in detail(while separated). H is with h's roommate eww(this is during the separation). h hears H having sex with her roommate. (she didn't know it was him at the time) I just don't want to read about them with others in detail. this is not for me.
I really tried to like this book but it was unrealistic. I liked Micah however felt that Elsa was a bit too much and I just didn't care for her. The story has so much potential however it fell flat with all the unrealistic things that went on in the story.
Never Give Up by Author Heidi Lis is a new adult romance with a plot that will have you wanting to throw your kindle across the room.
Never give up is the first novel I have read by author Heidi Liz and even though this book drove me bonkers I will definitely read her future books.
In Never Give Up we meet characters, Micah and Elsa. Elsa and Micah were high school sweethearts and due to many different circumstances they were not able to stay together. Micah moved away and started a new life following his father's footsteps but he never really explained to Elsa why he left. Elsa gave her all to him, her heart and her virginity. And when he left he took everything from her. Elsa's parents are absolutely the worst and made huge decisions for Elsa that no one should make for someone. Now let's fast forward five years Micah has returned to his hometown and into Elsa's life. She has never truly gotten over him. Things get real for both of them. Will Micah and Elsa reunite and finally have a life together or will the secrets from the past be too much for them to overcome?
I can't say that this is my favorite book I have ever read. Not because the author is not a good writer because she is. It was just not my cup of tea for the following reasons. For one Elsa drove me a little bonkers. The endless crying drove me nuts. I wanted to reach my hand thru my phone and slap the crap out of her, but this was towards the beginning of the book. By the time I understood the life Elsa lived and by that I mean how much her parents wanted to control her happiness, I started to empathize with the way she handled her emotions. Now I really wanted to like Micah but I couldn't. To me he just seemed like an a**. I didn't like some of the ways he handled certain situations and it really made it hard for me to connect with him. All in all, I can honestly say this book brought a lot of different emotions from me and if a book is able to that then I say that's a good read. I will continue to follow author Heidi Lis books because she can defiantly write books that will leave you thinking WTF... And that's always a plus. If you like books that are about a second chance then this is a must read!
I'm familiar with this author's work, as I absolutely love her style, but I DID NOT SEE THIS ONE COMING! Elsa Winters fell in love with Micah Taylor when they were teenagers, and truly believed he was the one, until he smashed her heart into little pieces when he just disappeared. It's been five years now, and she has struggled everyday to put him behind her, and move on. When she finally believes she can move forward with another man, a twist of fate has him appearing in her life again. No matter how hard she tried to keep him at arms length, their strong connection is still alive and kicking, and Elsa is terrified that she won't survive heartbreak a second time. But they can't stay away from each, nor be friends. As they try to work it all out, her biggest secret is revealed. Will Micah and Elsa stand together to survive when all the past secrets and lies come to light?
WOW JUST WOW! Dramatic girly girl emotions ahead! This story was absolutely GUTWRENCHING! I was invested from the get go, so my heart had been ripped out, stomped to pieces, only to be shoved back in with no numbing agent. The character development is great, with a strong cast of secondaries, (and a few need their own story pretty please). Heidi Lis' diabolically talented writing style is so emotionally charged that mine feeling came out sideways whether I wanted them to or not. She is brilliant at writing twists and turns that come from left field that made for serious OMG moments that I couldn't help but scream colorful metaphors while wiping my leaking eyes. I'm 100% addicted to this author, and I'm super excited to read the next story that brings me to my knees! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Never Give Up is a standalone book by Heidi Lis. This was my first book by this author and I absolutely loved it. The storyline was spot on with a second chance romance spin with a secret baby thrown into the mix. The characters were well developed with lots of depth, emotion and chemistry. All in all a really good read that I would recommend.
I was given a free copy for an honest review WOW..... What a gut wrenching heart breaking read! The views of both past and present really make you fall for the characters and you fall deep. Secrets and long lost dreams collide, what an amazing book!
My first love. My first time. My first heartbreak.
Letting him in was easy. Forgetting him was damn near impossible.
Five years have now passed…never forgetting. Five long years that couldn’t erase…his memories…my regrets.
Now he’s back!
What happens when the heartbreak of the past discovers your most guarded secret?
IT’S THE MOMENT THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING!
Lies are told, secrets are exposed, and the heartache of the past force me to reveal the most sacred part of my soul. The day I feared the most was now upon me. How can I survive this yet again, losing him once was bad enough…losing him a second time would destroy me.
This story really touched my heart. I love second chance stories that bring a smile to your face as it tears your heart apart. Getting back together is never easy but when you hold secrets it is even harder. When those secrets come out at the worse time nothing good can come out of it. Heidi gives a wonderful story of lost love finding their way back only to have it all almost taken away again. This was a very touching read that will break your heart and bring a tear to your eyes. So many people hurt, so many tears cried, so many people to blame, so many lies told and so much time lost because two people decided to play god to one girl they were suppose to love and take care of. Two people who love so much have parents that think they know what is best for them takes steps to keep them apart. This was a very emotional read that really reaches in and touches your heart.
I could relate to Elsa I felt her pain as not only a young girl but as an adult. There is nothing worse than to lose those you love, some people taken away from you only to find out years later that the ones that should love and support you is now you worse enemy. At first I did not care too much for this character all she did was cry after 5 years still trying to get over a lost love. Once Micah came back into her life and you know all the facts your heart breaks and all you want to do is set beside her hold her and cry with her.
At first I didn't understand Micah his reason for leaving without a word was hard for me to buy but once the author gave all the facts it was very touching. Micah had little choice but to join the military it was a family tradition. He couldn't say good bye or he would never have left. He does send his brother to talk with her but her parents step in taking away that right as they have so many others. On returning and getting out of the military the first thing he does is look up the girl he left behind only to be told he she has moved on and forgotten him. He decides to move on start up with a new lady. This is where the story gets very complicated as he finds out all that he has lost and all that he wants back.
I found this to be an easy book to get into with a slow start but was soon a page turner to find out what else could go wrong for these two people. The author gives a wonderful plot with a heartbreaking story which will hold your interest as the characters take on a life of their own. The one thing the author never told me was why in all the 5 years he never came home to visit his family. This just seems a little off but it does work well with the plot. This was a book I could not put down the author had me so pulled in as she twisted the plot to bring so much pain and heartache. She gives you a very steamy read with so much passion of lost love that could not get over each other. This is a very emotional and touching read leaving you with the question how can parent that say they love you treat you so bad when you needed them most. Never Give Up is about losing it all only to come together to fight for what is right, taking back what is yours. It is a well written story that will blow your mind with all the author has in store for you. I have been with this author from the first and I must say she has really grown in her writing as well as in her plots. Each book gets better and better. Never Give Up is a keeper you will want to read more than once.
“Kissing me behind my ear, he whispered. “You changed my world, pretty girl.”
I can still remember the first boy who stole my heart. The one I thought I was meant to be with for the rest of my life. Unfortunately, being so young and naïve, I learned through a broken heart that our lives were not meant to be together. Every time I ran into him, I immediately felt the crushing heartache, causing myself to question what was wrong with me or why I was not good enough. It took years for me to get over the hurt and to open my heart up to others, to see that there was someone greater for me, someone who fit me so much better.
I think most of us have experienced the person who first captured our heart, the person to whom we felt we were destined to be with. Often, however, you and that person find life has other plans in store. But in some cases, true soul mates are discovered and everlasting love found.
In Heidi Lis’ story, Elsa and Micah are two young teens who immediately feel a connection with one another upon their first meeting. After discovering such a deep connection, Micah suddenly leaves without any conversation or explanation. Elsa is devastated—not only did she share her love with him, but she gave all she had to this boy.
Feeling completely abandoned, Elsa finds herself still lamenting and mourning the loss she experienced five years earlier. As she decides it is time to finally move on and give into the man who has stood by her side and shown his compassion for the last several years, Elsa is left with a difficult decision when Micah suddenly shows up in her life five year after leaving, and the night after she tried to say goodbye to the loss of Micah she had been harboring.
A great deal of time has passed for these two and new relationships have developed. Will the lives of others involved complicate the situation even more so, making it impossible for the two to find what they once had? Has too much time passed for these two to rekindle the friendship and love they once had? And will the secrets and heartache of the past be more than the two can overcome?
Heidi Lis has created a strong story filled with heartache, loss, betrayal, and devotion in which friendships will be tested, lies will be uncovered, and personal strength will be pushed to the limits. This was a powerful read that will have your hurting for everyone involved. A great read!
This is the first book that I have read by author Heidi Lis, but I can say it won’t be my last. This author had a way of bring this story to life in the pages of this book that made you think this could happen and I really like getting a story like that. It gives you heartbreak, betrayal, first love, soulmates, and hope all rolled into one.

I received an arc copy of this book in exhange for an honest review.
I love a second chance romance, so i just really wanted to read this book.
Elsa and Michah, fell in passionately in love in High School, until one day without explanation to either of them it was over. Michah was gone. Step forward a few years and Elsa is still living life in the limbo and no closer to moving on from her losing the love of her life. Just as she finally decides to move on..BANG! Micah re-appears into her life. Truths and Secrets wrap around them while they struggle with the realization that they should never have been parted. Neither of them has ever moved forward or stopping loving the other. As the story unfolds, so many secrets come to light, Interferring parents, years apart, and Elsa holds a secret so deep, you wonder if this couple can make it or has the past left so much damage that they can’t ever recover.
Although it’s pretty obvious from the start, how the couple is going to re=enter each others life, it doesn’t take away from any of the emotional gist. I liked both Elsa and Micah, although at times Elsa seemed a bit over dramatic. This book was well written and had good pace with plenty of angst and drama that kept you turning the pages. It’s easy to get involved with this couple, there are times of laughter, some smiles, tears and some stamp your feet moments. An enjoyable read that captures you and your sad to see end !

What can I say about this book? This book is so, so good but at times heartbreaking, frustrating and just simply amazing. Elsa and Micah had a whirlwind romance in high school and due to circumstances neither one knew about they were over. Fast forward a few years later and you have Else still trying to forget him but her heart won't let her. She is happy with her job and friends but there's still a hole she can't fill. She has gone thru so much in her young life and so much is from her parents. Micah or Ace, went into the Air Force thanks to his dad and never saw Elsa again. He and his brother are back in town but Elsa doesn't know that. Fate steps in and they are reunited... It's not really a happy reunion though....Both are dating other people. Secrets are revealed and feelings are hurt. It takes some time but Elsa and Micah stick by each other and conquer each hurdle together until they get their happy ending. I am so glad I got to read this story and help out the author. This book is a true gem and I know others will like it as well. It has a good kinda sweet feel to it.
NEVER GIVE UP is a passionately written romantic tale that will stir your emotions. I know it did me. Warning: have plenty of tissues handy.
Interfering controlling parents, a lengthy separation, new romances coming into the picture, all of which provide barriers to FATE in this modern day Romeo & Juliet—a modern day Romeo & Juliet in which author Heidi Lis treats us to a different kind of ending.
Elsa Winters remains faithful to her heart in hopes that her true love, Micah Taylor, will someday return. And he does, after spending years in the military, but now he is with someone else. Together, they overcome many obstacles and frustrations, following their feelings in the belief that destiny will triumph.
It is said that a woman's heart is a deep ocean of secrets. Elsa Winters' heart, however, is open, honest, pure and sincere. The writing is elegant and packed with emotion. The story-line is believable and one that many who have loved and lost can identify with. This novel is about never giving up on love no matter what, and how, if it is true love, it will prevail.
This is book 2 in the series and Heidi Lis second book published. I read the first one and although it had some errors, no one is perfect I enjoyed the story very much. This second book was even better. Heartbreaking at times some frustrations but a really great read. Micah and Elsa's story they fell in love in high school but events happened they had no control over hence their relationship ended. Years later they meet again. Was not exactly a happy reunion to begin as they were both seeing other people. It took some time but they stand by each other work through the barriers that are keeping them apart to finally get their HEA. I myself prefer books with happy endings. Each book getting better each time and I look forward to future books by this Author. I give this book 4.5 starts well deserved Kathy From Two Feisty Angels and A Devil Blog
4.5 Amazing Stars! Elsa and Micah were high school sweethearts and she truly believed he was the one, that is until he disappeared. Else tried to move on with her life but it was difficult forgetting Micah. Now five years later she is finally in a relationship when Micah comes back into her life. Elsa tries to stay away from him but when it gets more difficult, what will she do? Will she risk getting hurt all over again? Ms. Lis had me hooked from the first chapter and I was wanting to know more. I loved the characters and was emotional right along with Elsa. I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to more by Ms. Lis.
I received this book as an ARC for an honest review. This book was read by Annamaria for Alpha Book club.

This is the first time I have read any of this authors work, and I was not disappointed, it will definitely not be the last. I love second chance romances. The two main characters Elsa and Micah were childhood sweethearts until they are separated. When they meet each other years later, they are both dating other people. They both realise that they have never moved on, but there is so many secrets between them. This is a heartbreaking read, but has plenty of angst and drama. Will these two eventually have their HEA? Will the secrets break them apart forever? Give this book a chance and read for yourself. The author has done a good job in writing this story. I will definitely be reading more of her work in the future.
Elsa Winters has a dark past based on misunderstandings and lies. Micah Taylor is the boy that she loved in high school and never got over. When Micah comes back into town Elsa has just gotten over her heart ache by sleeping with her best friend Nick after 5 years of not being with anyone else. And then there is Liza... She has a new man and is over the moon for him, not knowing that it is Elsa's love Micah. When they finally all meet it goes from bad to worse. And Elsa has been keeping a secret from everyone but Nick. When the secret finally comes to light everything just implodes.
Heidi's second book is beyond compare. I highly recommend you reading it!!!
I want to start saying I try to avoid angsty books, however this book had my full attention even with all the light angst.
This is the story of a pair of soulmates, they went through a lot of things and that's life. I enjoy the way the author was able to put into words a different story of what I've a read. The development of it was with a good rhythm and the characters had well developed personalities. The plot is well developed and had me reading nonstop. There's one scene that had me crying with all the feeling that were there. It was so well written that I've re read it several times.
It's great to find out new authors that have me looking for more of their work.
*I received this book in exchange for an honest review!
This book was like an emotional rollercoaster. I laughed and cried but mostly I cried! Elsa has been going through life on autopilot, never really living after her ex, Micah, left her years before.
Micah has been trying to get over the loss of the love of his life, Elsa.
After years of trying to live life without each other, they finally meet someone. After a chance encounter, Elsa and Micah come face to face with one another. After all the years that has passed, they still can't get over one another.
This is the second story I have read by Heidi Li's, and although I loved the first story, this is my favourite. Although I picked up on the adoptive parents early on, the story continued to take twists and turns.
Elsa has had such a horrible start. Losing everything she loved at 16, made her life stop.
When Micha walked back I to her life they knew they were soulmates. They go through a lot to get to the end of this book, but my oh my what a wonderful story.
I won't divulge any more, but you have just got to read it. ☺
Just finished this great read and it has taken me on such an emotional journey rarely a book ever had... It's so full of emotion and you so can feel the story and the charakters and suffer and live fully with them. Haven't often had a book that made me cry but this one for sure did several times. It's filled with so much emotion from sorrow to so much joy! Just such an amazing read incredible. Ty for sharing this incredible story and so looking forward to read the next book coming!
An emotionally charged story full of heartache, tension and ultimately joy. My intense emotional reaction had me physically feeling everything that was happening to Elsa and Micah. Their intense emotional connection was so real. The sexy times were hot and intense, but they definitely took a backseat to the real feels. The story was powerful and ended with a sweet and satisfying ending that was better than anything I could have predicted.
This story starts out with Elsa and Micah in highschool and in love. The prologue is super sexy and grabbed my attention immediately.
Fast forward a few years and we have Elsa stilll trying to move on from the past and a man that still takes over her dreams.
I love a good angsty story and I am a sucker for second chance love, and this book had it all. It was heartbreaking and frustrating and I loved every second of it!
Love these books when the H/h get together in high school then something goes wrong or miscommunication happens they part but wait the heroine has kept a deep secret that comes to light 5 years later and then BOOM!!!! Drama and angst and love heat passion you name it I loved it great HEA and epilogue 4 stars!!!
I think this is an AMAZING story. It's jammed packed with emotions. Once I started the book I couldn't put it down until the end. It's a very realistic story. I found myself crying for Elsa when she was hurt or sad and smiling or even crying happy tears in her joy. Not many books do that for me.
Second chance romances are one of my fave and this book gets a solid 4 stars from me. Undeniable romance and a great story kept me reading this book on my holidays late into each night. Micah and Elsa have undeniable chemistry throughout the story and i really enjoyed reading this book
