Meteor

Troy has spent thousands of dollars building an underground bunker in preparation for what he believes will be a pending apocalypse. His family, and most of his friends, think him crazy.

But when a massive meteor slams into Africa, sending soot and debris into the atmosphere and leaving the world in perpetual darkness, Troy's prepping is the only thing keeping his family alive.

With food shortages, acid rain and a breakdown of civilization, will Troy's caution be enough to survive and last what is to come?

A good effort...

I don't like to trash anyone's work, but this book was not my style. The characters seemed stilted and I never truly got an adequate picture of them.
The meteor strike was a good premise but not very entertaining. I would try another book from this author.

I feel mean saying it but this is the worst book I've ever read. It feels like it's written by a kid. The dialogue is awkward and clunky and the author has no empathy for the characters (he thinks he has!). The best thing about this book is it's blessedly only 200 pages. The worst thing is you have to read 200 pages. It's torturous. I assume there was no editor and the book was published and bank-rolled by the author himself or else it wouldn't have made the cut. I read it, whilst rolling my eyes and groaning, because I hoped it would get better - silly me! You got my money once Brad Knight, but never again.

Great story line

The book has a decent plot, but the author has either a strange way of talking, or the book was originally written in a different language and then translated into English.

A good concept but it needs an editor. The dialogue portion of the book, especially the fathers is horrid.
And the ending feels like he couldn’t figure out how to end it so just stopped writing.

Meteor

Not particularly realistic, but human. This story has more human interaction than it should! I do think it should have more of a story.

Slight Review

The book was over all a good read. My one critique is that the word "dear" was used way to many times. I cringed everytime I saw it.

Bad, bad, bad.

Awkward dialogue. Awkward relationships. Characters change attitudes on a dime. Unworkable bunker for spending months underground. Did an AI write some/all of this?

An interesting concept was somewhat wasted in this book, for while the writing style was technically good, for anyone who has read more than a couple of apocalyptic novels, there was nothing new here.

The characters were somewhat uninteresting and one-dimensional. An ordinary man who built a shelter because of a dream? His slightly estranged wife, disagrees but comes around eventually. A teenage overly cliched daughter, complete with inappropriate boyfriend, and emotional crisis every two seconds, and a son, who everyone - including himself - thinks is gay, until he meets a pretty girl. (no really that's what happens?)

However, despite all that, the survival aspect of the story, inside the bunker, is good, with some interesting dilemmas faced by the family in protecting themselves and their supplies are nicely done.

Similarly the after effects of the meteor hit, take some nice twists and turns, giving the family some other avenues to go in, which just about keep the book interesting enough to get you through to the end. Just.
