Helpful

I find everything J.Little does is helpful. He’s just a helpful and kind person in general. He says hey if that hurts don’t do it and if this works then keep it up. Simple, such is life, but not easy.

Very much a good GUIDE FOR BEATING SMALL STAKES GAMES, it is not a cheat code to magically win or become profitable without bankroll management.

This is not a first-poker-book read, as lots of concepts are already assumed and this focuses on applying basic things like card odds to games and situations. You are guaranteed to walk away from this book with a better understanding of poker than you did prior.

4 Stars because:

the examples are mediocre, especially considering how high quality the database of examples is on his website.

bankroll management is skimmed over

A basic foundation of quick mental math is required to apply the book in practice

The average player is multiples better than when this came out. The COVID spike came and went, and the only people who remained are mostly skilled (comparatively) so the conservative play suggested will likely bleed you dry online without adjusting

Speaking of adjustments, there's almost no talk of how to adjust as generic principles or specific examples. While every table and hand is unique, there are some good guidelines that are left out.

This book discusses important post-flop skills, which could help improve your play. This includes tips about bet sizing, appropriate times to bluff, and how to play a hand against different types of players. A part which I liked was when Little discussed how the same two cards can be either very strong against a loose player or very weak against a tight player, even when the community cards are exactly the same, which highlights the importance of playing the same hand differently, based on your read on an opposing player.

I would recommend for beginners to read the section on post-flop skills, as they are more difficult to master compared to pre-flop, and I found this section especially helpful.

Really enjoyed this poker strategy book. The book assumes at least foundational to advanced knowledge of poker strategy, so I wouldn't recommend for someone who still needs to learn the foundations of NLHE. Covers spots where bluffing is profitable as well as stresses how important thin value betting is to your profit expectation. Definitely will be re-reading with a note pad handy.

Such good content packed in a very readable format. As mentioned by the author of the book, a very good read for people that have already experienced playing poker and understands many of the concepts.

Perfect for new players

Perfect for those who know the rules and terms of playing poker, but not the strategy. I would recommend this to new players.

Good advice; very useful to have advice targetted to the stakes you're playing at; I wish it were a bit more thorough though.
