Catherine Carvell lives in Singapore with her husband, children and two pet turtles. Sometimes, Catherine talks to the turtles, but thankfully, they don’t talk back.http://www.catherinecarvell.com/
What a fun read! Darcy Moon and the Aroona Frogs is a quirky, original, thought-provoking story.
Darcy thinks her biggest problems are a lack of funds and embarrassing parents, until she learns that there are problems out there much bigger than yoga practicing, hippy parents, or not having enough cash to buy the latest fad or snack. The environment is being destroyed, frogs are being wiped out of their natural habitat, and Darcy can do something about it! Darcy discovers that she is an Earth Guardian and she can talk to frogs and tortoises!
Darcy has an entertaining, fun-to-follow voice, and the exciting story line moves along quickly, touching on numerous topics that will appeal to young readers and give them food for thought. Who knew protecting the environment could be so entertaining? :)

This is an odd little story that is teaching kids about how important the environment is. The frogs are disappearing, and it is a human taking them. And Darcy Moon has to figure out a way to rescue them.
Darcy is the Earth Guardian, and can hear what the animals say. This is news to her.
It is a strange, funny, odd story, but kids might find it fun.

Darcy Moon is a girl that has many issues. She had hippie parents who embarrass her, has no TV or car, not much money, and only one friend. She wishes she could fit in with the popular crowd. One day her family is at the local park and Aroon Swamp when a frog and tortoise speak to her. It turns out that she is an Earth Guardian and her help is needed to protect the swamp. The local swamp frogs are disappearing, and the food chain is broken. She freaks out and takes off, with no plan to help. The next day at school, she learns about the endangered tortoise living in the swamp and realizes that is the one that asked her for help. That night she sneaks out to the swamp to see what is going on and to try and help.
With ingenuity, a little sneaking around and talking animals to help, can Darcy Moon save the swamp? Will anyone believe her when she tells them what the new craze in snack food is made from? Will she learn to accept her parents for what they are and love them unconditionally? There are lots of questions answered in this story and some good lessons for children reading this book. Darcy Moon and the Aroona Frogs is a quirky, yet glorious adventure story with environmental themes that young readers can relate to and cheer.
This is a great book for young readers, especially those who are reading beginning chapter books. It could be used as a read aloud when learning about the environment, endangered species, the food chain and ecosystems. A book for public, school, class and family libraries. I hope there will be more adventures for Darcy Moon, the Earth Guardian.

Darcy and the Aroona Frogs is a children's book written by Catherine Carvell and illustrated by Michael S. Parkinson. Darcy Moon is an ordinary girl with ordinary problems–she’s low on cash and doesn’t fit in with the cool crowd. That is, until she finds out she is an Earth Guardian who has to save the local swamp from disaster. The local swamp frogs are disappearing, and the food chain is broken. Darcy Moon and the Aroona Frogs is story that offers some goofy humor, family issues, and environmental themes. Like most kids, Darcy thinks her parents are weird, and does not particularly want to be seen with them. The thing is, they are actually different, and while being freaked out by our parents is completely normal, I could understand Darcy's worry. I liked the evolution of Darcy's character and how she relates to her family and friends as well as how she sees herself. The environmental warrior bit was well done, as was her scheming to help the local wildlife. There was a lot that went right, though I did feel it veered a little closer to the 'preachy' line and the villainous or useless adult bits than I typically enjoy. However, I can think of some groups that would absolutely love the story, and think there are a few classroom lessons or reading groups that might find this the perfect book for their needs.
Darcy Moon and the Aroona Frogs is a quirky adventure story with fun illustration and environmental themes that will capture the attention and imagination of some young readers. It felt like it was trying a little too hard to inspire at times, but think it might strike the right chord with some readers.
Darcy Moon is not very happy with her current life. Her hippie parents are too eccentric to be seen with in public. The life she is living at home does not have the usual amenities the other children in her class enjoy, such as TV. She is not popular and her budget is usually limited. Everything is deemed to change one night when she stumble upon some frogs - after a day out in the swamp with her father gathering worms - who need her help. Why her, out of all the other human beings in the whole world? Because, upon her birth, she was secretely given the mission of being an Earth Guardian. It means that she has some extra powers that can be used in special emergency situations. The situation of the frogs from Aroona Wildlife Reservation is anything but normal. Night after night, the frogs are mysteriously disappearing and the whole wild life balance is in danger. At first, Darcy refuses the savior's mission - she has enough of out of order situations and talking frogs is not what she needs to deal with when there are so many problems to cope in her everyday child life - but after learning in school about wildlife and its enemies, she changes her mind. At night, she run away of home secretly to join the frogs. Just in time to catch the one and only who is guilty for the dissapearance of frogs. A multi-rich local personalities, the creator of a very successful chips brand needed the frogs as the secret ingredient of his potatoes. Through a special rescue mission, Darcy suceeds to save them from extinction but it remains to reveal the perpetrator to the world. This will happen a couple of hours later: a role-model presentation he was supposed to hold in the front of the children from his former school ends with a frog invasion, during which he is showing his first colours. After so many adventures, Darcy is really happy with her lot. So what if her mother doesn't wear a bra or her father doesn't use a deo? She've found herself and she does not have any reason to be ashamed of what she is now. I loved this book from many points of view: the writing is entertaining and dynamic; the story is inspiring; there are many lessons learned about nature and relationship with peers and parents. Last but not least, I also liked the illustrations. Recommended to curious children with a love for nature and ready for a reading adventure!
