In New Orleans, where old Southern lineages root as deep and tangled as the haughty Cypress, two powerful families become entrenched in a battle to preserve pedigrees. For the past nine years, Thierry Chevalier, the strikingly handsome, well-bred, polished son of one of the oldest, most powerful white families in Louisiana, has been harboring an impassioned desire to captivate the woman of his dreams. His desire, Angelique Dubois. Graceful, delicate and sensually delectable, Angelique seems as unattainable as she is desirous: the daughter of New Orleans' mayor; member of a proud Black Creole family; and engaged to another man. But when opportunity opens, their fates are magnetized. The tempest of passion, power and pride that erupts is more sweeping than a steamy Gulf Coast monsoon.
Shara is- well let's just say touched. Born a Marine brat, Shara is a Navy Veteran with a pathological love for men in uniform, chocolate, and heroes that are maybe a touch psychotic. With over seventy-five books in her backlog, Shara has no intention of slowing down any time soon. She's definitely not safe for work, or the kids, or- you know what? She's just not safe.
Well, the editing issues bugged me a bit but I'm going to move beyond that because it is what it is.
A few things were off putting for me about this book. 1.) A LOT of repeat terminology and dialog. Their first conversation was the most painful few pages of fiction I've ever read. He had to have said "I'm doing this all wrong" at least five times. The whole exchange was nothing but the two of them saying the same things worded differently or worse, NOT differently. *SPOILERS*
2.) He keeps thinking to himself how much he LIKES this girl. Dude, you have pictures of her all over your house. Pictures YOU PAINTED. "Like" isn't the word I'd use for that. In fact, I'm not sure what word I'd use, but that ain't it.
3.) She see's said depictions and does not run screaming from his house.
4.) She see's her fiancé screwing someone else and just leaves without confronting them. Don't care how much I don't love the guy. He's hearing it from me. Right then, right there.
5.) This author has an apparent aversion to dialog. I say that because most of the details are told after the fact. I don't like that. You're building a relationship. Don't tell me as a btw type of thing something either of them did that is significant. We don't see much verbal exchange between these two, and I don't blame her since she wasn't very good at it lol.
Overall, I'm giving this two stars because the storyline itself is one I never tire of. I LOVE a man who falls for a woman and doesn't fight it. I love a man who finds the woman of his dreams and knows it. But ultimately its so poorly executed the core of it gets lost.
This book is kind of hard for me to rate because I thought it was "okay" on one hand and then on the other hand as I continued to read it I kept thinking "How did this get published?"
It started out pretty good - I really liked the focus being on a Creole family and the relationship between the lighter-skinned mother and her darker-skinned daughter. I was even okay with it when the daughter decided to be a stripper as a way to "rebel", I guess. And when Thierry recognized her and got angry instead of turned on - I was like - Okay now, this might be interesting.
And then I was through.
First of all, Thierry's habit of calling Angelique "sugar" every other sentence annoyed the heck out of me! Sugar? Really? Is that even sexy anymore? Was it ever?!
And the sex scenes...uuuggh! Every time Thierry found his release it was the most intense release ever! Okay, so what about the fifty-eleven times he released before?
And then the grammatical errors were too numerous to ignore. Really.
The writing was a bit amateurish to me at times and at other times it was downright ridiculous. I kid you not.
Example: It stood out proud, red, and furious with pearly drops of fluid escaping from its one eye.
*blank stare
Oh! Oh! And let's not overlook Angelique "cooing" while in the throes of love-making.
Yeah, so this didn't really do it for me. At least not enough for me to want to read any other books in this series.
LOVE this book!!! This is the first book in a series about the Chevalier Cousins,a prominent, white, Creole family in New Orleans and the women that they love. I don't want to giveaway the plot, but I can say that you will be HOOKED! I've read all of the subsequent books in the series to date and am waiting, jonesing, feening for the next one (Forever Jade). After reading "Thierry's Angel",the next is "Remy goes To Therapy",then"The Taming of Katrina".
OK. I have owned this book for awhile because of the reviews, but for whatever reason, could not bring myself to read it. I finally started it two days ago and loved it, read it in two days. This book had the right amount of everything. The pace was good, the characters interesting, there was a nice little twist at the end. Angelique (which was originally suppose to be my name-smile), and Thierry are good together. I like a strong alpha male and Thierry proves to be just that. The whole book was well worth the read and I am downloading the next in the series asap. A book worth lending to a friend, but it should be a good one, to make sure you get it back. TTFN.
I remember when I looked a the cover of this story in 2008. I had no idea what to expect. Like most things that start innocuously, I was blown away. The series was awesome and of course I had to have all of them. I joined the Yahoo group, voted on potential covers and joined the fans of The Chevalier (spelling's prob off) family. Wonderful writer, wonderful series!
3.5 stars overall for this IR piece that presented a hero with a stalkerific edge to him, and both the hero's and heroine's Louisana roots, which showcase, prejudice, mixed heritage, social class and the sweet humming nature of the South, in NOLA with its convoluted origins and sultry moods.
The story is a bit simple, and the plot needs development more than the characterization does, but against anything I found wanting, I couldn't help but enjoy the hero's alpha nature and the protective cocoon he wanted to keep the heroine in. This presents a wolf and lamb situation, as the heroine is a bit "new" and she doesn't seem to know herself, so in effect, the reader doesn't know her either. But, the hero, Theirry, comes in bold.
The "interracial" is definitely at play in this Interracial Romance, so readers who might not like that emphasis, may not like this read. The Chevalier men really like "other", and sometimes it seems more to piss off their matriarch of a grandmother(in a sense of irony) than because of actual love. The lust is definitely there, though, as is a dangerous bit of possessiveness for their darker heroines.
This, I found interesting. What's the author's aim?
In any case this book and the rest in this series are very steamy. This is IR smut, a genre that I think Shara Azod writes more than she writes dramatic depth. And sometimes, though rare, I forego depth. A little bit(snickers). Happy Reading.
Ok,so, this was recommended to me by a friend. The beginning of the book dragged a bit for me, to the point i almost just gave up on the book. I'm glad i continued though.
Surprisingly, Charline actually bothered me more than Lady Rienne. She is a real piece of work among other things. I'm actually glad her and Angels relationship ended up the way it did. I couldn't imagine how it would feel having a mother so filled woth hate and feelings of inadequacy towards their child. I do feel bad over how her father was blindsided by how she was really treated.
Lady Rienne is exactly what i'd expect someone with the title "Lady" to be like. She's absolutely selfish, racist and perched so high on her high horse that she mistakes the distant and pretentious way she treats her own family as love. Theres no love there, its pure self-obsession. She can use the family name excuse all she wants, I'm not buying it.
Angel and Thierry mesh well. She needed him to show her she didn't need to settle for Paul and getting to be with him was worth her growing a spine and standing up to everyone. Thierry was a bit creepy at first. He's 10 years older than her and has stalker tendencies, painting her and what not. I grew to like and respect him. The lengths he went for Angel were sweet.
Overall, i enjoyed the plot, twists and turns. I gave it 3 because i didn't like how the point b of view jumped from person to person in the same scene, even people who weren't main characters.
I do look forward to the rest of the series, i am officially intrigued to see where thus goes.
Well, this book just wasn't what I had anticipated. I bought it from Kindle and besides the fact that it was filled with misplaced words, sometimes the font was blue and one time a part of the text was bold. Really annoying.
The book itself was way too fast-paced. One major thing happened, we skipped some days and then something else happened. It turned out to be pretty boring and in my oppinion very unrealistic.
I didn't like the way the story was told through so many people. Way too much info. Sometimes it's nice when you're kept out of the loop and never certain about what the 'enemy' has plotted before the end, but with this book.. It just didn't work out at all.
And I realize that in some romances people develop serious feelings for each other really fast, and that it does happen in real life. But come on, Thierry had stalker tendencies for YEARS and it was all really gag-worthy. Besides Thierry, the rest of the people annoyed me a great deal, too. Except from Aubrey because I found it rather fun that he hadn't realized that his wife had left him and the cousin who wanted to be a chef (can't even remember his name, something beginning with R?) because he was funny. Sometimes.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Theirry's Angel was a pretty good book. A quick read, but there was still plenty drama and twists. Secrets on top of secrets, but without being eye roll-worthy or too outlandish. That Charline is definitely a mega bitch, but she doesn't have anything on that old battleax - Lady Rienne. I'm sure she's got more tricks up her sleeve, but I know, even though she's too blind to see it herself, that the Chevalier men will continue to keep her in check.
While Theirry and Angelique's relationship was cute and sexy, the surrounding conflict with the matriarchs of their family, the foiled scheming and all the Chevalier/Dubois secrets was what made this book.
I know other readers had an issue with the editing and yes it could use some work, but it didn't take away from the story. I look forward to reading more from this series.
I have read many of this authors book before and she is one of my favourites. She knows how to draw the reader into a story right off the bat without too much narration. She introduces you to the couples within first few pages which I loved. I have had the first 5 stories in this series for a couple of years and I am only now just getting around to reading them.
This is Thierry and Angel's story which I really enjoyed reading.
The series is about a group of cousins who meet a group of ladies who are friends and happen to be all African American who enter into relationships with the cousins. I absolutely loved that all the ladies are all friends or related to each other and all enter into relationships with the Chavalier Men. I did not see a thing strange about this. On to book 2
I loved this book! Shara is a great writer and I have actually talked with her online she is very nice and so gracious. I love the entangled and slightly twisted families of Thierry and Angelique! This is the first book of the Chevalier series and in my opinion he best; I highly recommend this novel. My next favorite one in the series is Forever Jade- the remaining Chevalier books are a little to light on the same narrative detail and storytelling, character build up that make the other 2 books so special!
I really liked this book. Set in New Orleans, this is a story about two people from prominent but racially different families who fall in love. It's also about the obstacles that are trying to keep them apart. The chemistry between Thierry and Angelique was off the charts. Once I started the book, I couldn't put it down. I can't wait to read more of the series.
Great read about believing in yourself and the power of love. Angelique and Thierry meet by happenstance and fall in love despite the racial and political forces that threaten to tear them apart they make it work. I was really impressed with the way in which Thierry handled everyone including Angelique with dignity and grace only a Southern Alpha male can bring!
Shara Azod is great, she keep the action and love right at the top. I trying to read everything she has written. This author can not put them in paperback fast enough for me. I learn that of all the romance novels I own and read, Ms Azod is one of the best.
I read the Saga out of order, but I enjoyed it. I like these guys. What would one of these guys even look like? I'm all over the place in my head picturing them, w/ the eyes and the hair.
I took off one star based on how bad the editing was. It wasn’t enough to totally ruin the story but several times it was say “his” instead of “her” or vice versa. Also, and most distracting, there were numerous times words were completely missing which jumbled the sentence and made you have to read it at least twice to make it make sense. That was frustrating. BUT despite me being a little creeped out at the beginning, I still loved the story, loved how everything unfolded, and loved the characters!
I liked the Interaction of the characters and I loved the flow of the story. I especially liked the steamy scenes. If you enjoy a story with a little bit of everything then I recommend this book.
I decided to reread this book after not having read it in almost a decade. Still one of the best I have ever read. I just adore the Chevaliers. They go bat sh!t crazy over their women.
The love that developed between Thierry and Angel is what made this a good story! That hot mess with her Stepmother and Cousin was over the top, they should be charged in some way for their actions! Hopefully, karma will render judgment in some way!
This book had a very good storyline and the characters of Angel and Thierry where well matched and fun to follow. There where just so many discrepency's to this story. A huge one for me was thierry's obbsession with Angel for 10 years where he does not approach her just watches her and paints her and then sees her dancing and makes his move but he was prepared for her to marry someone else... I kept thinking that Thierry was described as a ruthless businessman everyone was afrid ofye t he was scared to approach Angel and was willing to let her marry someone else!!!! This did not make sense to me. Also how did Solange get to their hotel at the end and how did she know they where there and she just gets let off the hook. If Thierry was so powerful against his granny why the elaborate scheme to return home from Vegas with a threat from a psychiatrist. The amount of grammer errors was crazy. This was a good story not necessarily a good book but very poorly edited, I read it because I thought I could overlook these flaws and I did and I wanted to give this author a try but if you can get this book second hand take it but it is a waste to pay full price for such a short story. I was surprised people gave this book a 4 * rating maybe like me they overlooked a lot but I was dissapointed overall.
