Librarian Note: Alternate Cover Edition for ASIN: B009TZR4FG.

Alexander moves into his dorm to begin his third year in college, having made a vow to his foster father that he will socialize this year and not spend every waking hour in the biochemistry labs. Soon he is forced to play softball with his dormitory team, where he meets an obnoxious little english major named Carl. Carl breaks his finger on a well aimed fly ball from Alex, who awash in guilt, takes him to the emergency room and then is forced to help him eat and study while his hand heals. Against all his rational goals, Alexander grows fond of Carl.

However, Alexander is not all he seems. His long legs end in huge hands that he folds up and forces into orthopedic boots. To hide his features and his feet, Alex has learned to apply a glamor to those around him, much like the fae of old did.

Alexander's biological father is a clinical, self absorbed biochemist and Carl's father is rumored to go beyond aggressive venture capitalism and sell exotic weaponry to criminal organizations and terrorist cells. Neither man has time or patience for his son.

When Carl invites Alexander home for Thanksgiving, Alexander learns that his father is not the worst dad around. In an attempt to protect his sister, Carl stabs his father in the eye. Inexorably, the courts throw Carl into jail while filial duty drives Alexander into his father’s filthy laboratory.

Alexander's creators have plans of their own and as circumstances turn from bad to worse, both men learn about themselves, the value of love and that perseverance and family are worth everything.

And revenge? Well one can easily get Hoisted on One’s Own Petard - if one is not careful.
