Work is core to our lives. And the gospel is core to our faith. In The Gospel Goes to Work, author and executive coach Stephen Graves introduces a fresh framework that explores not only how the gospel should shape our work, but also how it could. It is called The Baseline and The Blue Sky and applies to any worker doing any work anywhere. This framework helps us understand how the reach, power, and intent of the gospel going to work is a revolutionary insight, even for veterans of the faith.
Steve is an organizational strategist, pragmatic theologian and social capitalist. At any given time, he is advising 5-6 executives or business owners, along with 3-4 young energetic social entrepreneurs. He sits on a half dozen boards, holds degrees in multiple subjects, writes often and speaks occasionally. He lives in Northwest Arkansas with his wife Karen, has three adult children and if he doesn’t return your call quickly there is a good chance he snuck off to the river…again.
Wow this book got me pumped about the idea of taking the gospel to the work environment!! He talks about work being a part of Gods good creation (even before the fall) and that the gospel should be permeating especially the places we work (since we spend so much time there). Work can be glorifying to God and is not “secondary” to ministry work and this book really did a good job of changing that viewpoint for me (backed with a lot of scripture). Read this book if you are wanting to make an impact in your workplace!!!!
This is probably one of my favorite books about "Workship" aka "Monday Matters" and the idea of living your life missionally. You don't have to go overseas to be a missionary.
