I got this as a starting point to learn more about gifted parenting, and that's what it is. It's a starting point. I found it a bit disappointing as I was looking for parenting advice, but the primary content of the book seems to be get a committee for gifted education going in your area. That's fine, but it's not really what I went into it looking for.
Most of the content is just . . . Parenting 101. Encourage your child to express their emotions, support their interests, have consistent behavioral expectations, offer enrichment outside of school. These are all--or should be--no brainers. That's how to raise any child.
I will say, they provide a lot of citations of other things to check out, so that will probably be my primary use of this book.
This is a good starter book for parents who discover they have a gifted child and don't know anything about where to go from that point. I've raised one gifted child and am in the process of raising another so the majority of this book contained information I already knew about or learned along the way. Gifted children are unique in the way they look at the world and so they require a bit of a different parenting process. There are some good points in here but it's just a start of the world parents will find themselves in and they'll need a lot more information to navigate this new terrain. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Good primer & check in for the “is my kid gifted or are they just smart?” Practical and loaded with take home tips. Truly a 101 & jumping off point for if you do find yourself parenting/teaching a gifted kid.
I received this book free from a Goodreads giveaway.
I read this book as a teacher and a friend to a person with a gifted child. Then I recommended this book to her to read right away. What I liked about this book was it was broken up nicely and was very easy to read. The book went over myths of gifted children, how to help them in school, and what they will need to succeed. As an educator, what I liked about this book was it was very practical. It told the good and bad about having a gifted child. Many people just focus on the good it was great this book covered the subject as a whole.
