So first off, I received a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Now, to the good stuff!
Sarra Cannon has done it again! I have read every book she has put out so far and never encountered a single thing I didn't love. Normally, I'm not a fan of multiple POV stories, because after a while the characters start to get muddied together, but this book may have just made me a believer. Each character's POV is distinct, because they each have such different and clear personalities that it was impossible for me to get them confused.
The storyline grabs you from the first second and refuses to let you go. I couldn't put the book down, and I'm still reeling from the end of it. I'm definitely looking forward to the next installment in this series!
Emerald Darkness is an amazing book!! It is suspenseful, fun, crazy, keeps you on the edge of your seat. Once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. Sarra Cannon is an amazing author whose descriptions put you right there in the story. I recommend this book to anyone!!
I got a free advanced copy of the book for an honest review for Sarra. I love everything she writes and she is just getting better every book she finishes.
Wow. Seriously, read this book. If you've read Sarra's other books you'll not be disappointed, I actually think she's gotten better (I know, I didn't think it possible either). And if you're new to her books, you're going to love them as much as we all have so far.
So, now that part is done... No spoilers, I was given an ARC so I could review this book, I'll be honest, it's been a while since I read the Peachville (and shorts) series, plus I've read a heap of other books and possibly there was a little sleep in there too, so I was a little worried I'd struggle to keep up with characters, fear not! Sarra managed to keep the story going as well as have reminders, not overkill either, just the right amount for you to go "aah yeah, I remember!" I've read books where entire chapters were dedicated to "flashbacks" or whatever, we all know how yawn-inducing that can be. The whole book flow was great and just sucked you back into this amazing world Sarra has created.
I really enjoyed this book, I would recommend it over and over again and I don't have a bad thing to say.
Just a note, when I first stumbled across Peachville High I was a little reluctant, more teen drama? Snore! But I gave it a go anyway, sooo glad I did! The PH series and Emerald Darkness are not all teen angst, foot stomping and teen rebellion drama, nor "typical" teen drama at all come to think of it (plus, no glitter or sparkles, winner!). They are all just a great read by a great author. You'll be sucked in to the world, fall in love with the characters and you'll love every minute of it. =)
This book was just amazing and I couldn't put it down! Sarra does an amazing job writing, I find her books very enjoyable.
The story is a continuation of her Peachville High Demons series, but don't worry, it can be read alone.
This story is told by a couple different characters point of view. I was worried that it would be difficult reading the different views, but I needn't have worried. Sarra does an excellent job expressing their feelings and views that it was actually very easy to keep up. Also, each character can be related to without any confusion what so ever as to who was telling the story.
The background information flows beautifully and doesn't make you feel like you are reading the PHD series a second time.
I definately recommend this book and can't wait until the next one is published.
Sarra Cannon has once again not failed to drag me into Harper's world. Emerald Darkness had me laughing, crying, frustrated (in a who dunnit type of way), happy and sad all in one book. Just like the rest of her books Sarra had me on the edge of my seat wanting to read more!
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I am so honored to be chosen.
Being a fan of Cannon's work and the Peachville High series I knew this book was going to be good, but what did I just read?
Was it Great Writing? Obviously!
Was it a wonderful story telling? Absolutely!
Did it have a compelling plot? I'll say!
But it was also madness, sadness, action, love, and a bunch of other adjectives. But simply put I just read pure genius.
I loved every minute of it. I laughed. I cried. I gripped the sides of my kindle and yelled at the author; as if she could hear me.
The twists and turns of this book will keep you at the edge of your seat wanting to know what happens next. I am eager for the next installment and I encourage anyone reading this review to jump, head first, into this world. Get to know Harper, Jackson, Lea, Aerden, Essex, MaryAnne, Zara and everyone else in this amazing book/series.
I first stumbled upon Sarra's books purely by chance, but im so glad i did. Reading all her books in a matter of weeks, then hounding her for a release date for the next amazing instalment..
I was lucky enough to be given this ARC for an honest review..The waiting was over, i finally had my next fix. It was everything and more. Dark, mysterious, exciting, breath holding, nail biting, Sarra had me on the edge of my seat...and im still there, what a cliff hanger!!!
The details and descriptions paint a vivid picture in your mind, its almost like you are there among the action. The book is written brilliantly! The references to the previous books in the series is just right, not overwhelming but enough to keep you up to speed if you have not read them all.
I received this ARC for an honest review. So here we go.
Where do I begin? Sarra has done it once again. I loved revisiting the world of Peachville. I wasn't able to put this book down and read it every free moment I had. From the beginning to the very end you never knew what would happen next. The changing of the POV gave us a glimpse as to what each character felt at that specific time and just added to the story.
I would recommend this book to anyone and can not wait until the second book in Emerald Darkness comes out!
She brought the action, the tension, the fear - all of it. I was hooked start to finish. I have no idea how she does it, but Sarra Cannon just keeps wowing me with amazing stories.
The plot twists and surprises will keep you on the edge of your seat. I will warn you though, there's a cliffhanger - but Momma loves em!
Cannon masterfully started this story in such a way that you did NOT need to read the first Peachville Series to understand this story AND you were not bored to tears. It's amazing, stupendous, outrageously fantastic!
This is the tip of the iceberg a home run the way Sarra has knitted everything together and the stories behind each character wants you wanting to read more. I couldn't put the book down. It would make a very interesting movie.
Sarra Cannon is such a talented writer. Her characters have a depth that a lot of authors are not able to portray. She hit's it out of the ballpark again with this suspense-filled book. If you haven't read any of her books you truly do not know what you are missing.
Four Jewel demons gates, one down and three to go. Will Harper and Jackson be able to destroy the emerald gate or will the high priestess of emerald gate destroy her and all the demons and witches? Great story.
I first heard that Sarra had a new book coming out when I saw the call for blog tour hosts from AToMR. I immediately signed up because it sounded like a great book, and definitely something I’d be interested in. I’m not really sure how I missed the fact that EMERALD DARKNESS was a continuation of the PHD series, but I did. (I have not yet read any of the Peachville High Demons series, though I actually own something like the first 5 or 6 e-books!) That being said, I honestly didn’t feel lost or like I was missing out on some vital information as I read this book. As someone who hasn’t read the earlier books, I think Sarra did a great job of telling us the vital information necessary for understanding this particular book. I definitely want to go back and read the PHD series, though, as EMERALD DARKNESS piqued my interest in the books even more!
Sarra’s delivery of background information was actually quite masterful; I made a note to myself as I read on my Kindle that I greatly appreciated the way she shared information that readers of the prior set of books would know but new readers would not. There was no big info-dump at the beginning of the book, which was awesome. Since the book was written from multiple POVs, she let information slowly trickle out precisely when we needed to know it. Each character was allowed to share with us the information about themselves that we’d want to know, instead of one of them being an omniscient narrator and telling us about prior plot points and events. It was a very organic, natural flow and I think if you read it you’ll see what I mean. I am very impressed with how Sarra was able to drag me in from the beginning and not leave me scratching my head wondering what the heck was going on, even though I hadn’t read any prior books.
As I mentioned, the story is told from multiple POVs, from characters that prior readers will recognize: Harper, Jackson, Lea, and Aerden. Again, Sarra masterfully portrayed each of these characters in an individual and unique voice. The name of the narrator of a chapter is included at the beginning of the chapter (which is crucial, in my opinion, and any book with multiple POVs should do this!), but to be honest I could usually tell without that hint who was speaking from the moment I started reading a chapter. They have such distinct voices and personalities that you won’t be confused at all. In addition to these four main characters, all of whom I think are great, there are a number of secondary characters involved in the story who are also richly drawn and integral to the plot. Finally, dialogue is spot-on; nothing felt unnatural or forced, and I never thought, “That’s not how young people speak!” or anything like that.
The plot was fast-paced and my heart was almost always pounding as I read! There was always some new challenge the team was faced with, and I was right there with them as they struggled to keep themselves and the human and Shadow worlds safe. Again, after reading what they went through in EMERALD DARKNESS, I can’t wait to go back and see how it all started in the PHD series! When we got to the denouement here, I thought, “okay, I can finally start breathing again… it’s almost over and they’ll be safe until the next book when they try to take down the next priestess!” Well, let’s just say I did not end the book with a deep sigh and “Phew! Life can go back to normal for now!” Nope. No way, no how. Now, I am simply on edge thinking I have to wait goodness knows how long to find out just what’s next for Harper, Jackson, Lea, and Aerden!! I just… WHAT?! The ending slayed me. It’s so, so good and I want everyone to read it!
As you can see, I really enjoyed this book! I look forward to going back and reading about how the team came together, learning about all their exploits and challenges and victories (and some defeats, I’m sure!) – and I just thank goodness there are like 9 books I can read to tide me over until FORGOTTEN DARKNESS arrives! Even if you have not read the Peachville High Demons series, by all means, jump in to the world of Beautiful Darkness now. You will not be lost or wondering what’s going on – but I guarantee you WILL be like me, immediately going back to start at the beginning with BEAUTIFUL DEMONS. Happy reading!
This book is unputdownable! From start to finish, I couldn't wait to turn the page and see what was coming next. This story took me on a most incredible journey into the brilliant and creative mind of Sarra Cannon. I cannot wait for the second book in this series. The point-of-view shifts between characters offer you, the reader, a deeper insight into each characters' emotions and insights. Combined with well developed characters, flawless plot, a boatload of action, drama and last but not least, suspense, this novel left me wanting to abandon all of my daily chores and ignore everything else. To simply delve into the world within the pages of Emerald Darkness and read, just read this beautifully written story. It made me feel like I was there, right alongside the characters.
This novel is preceded by several other gorgeous novels written by Sarra, all of which I would highly recommend reading if you haven't already. The Peachville High Demons Series books were the beginning and from time to time I find myself re-reading the series, over and over again.
I give this book FIVE stars, more if I could. I was completely blown away by the finale. Great job Sarra, you've never written a story I didn't love. I will be reading the next in the series for sure!
Emerald Darkness seems to represent a bridge between the first half of this series and the second half, and it certainly feels that way. For one, this is the first time we get multiple POV characters (Harper, Jackson, Lea, and Aerden). For another, this is the first instance of including characters from outside the primary series which caused some confusion initially. Overall, this was a good continuation of the story, if a little jarring.
While I thoroughly enjoyed the addition of new POV characters, it's clear that this is Cannon's first foray into doing so. All four characters had essentially the same voice; they all sounded like Harper from the first six books. But given how much Cannon has developed and grown as a writer over the first six books, I have high hopes that she will quickly learn how to give each character a distinct voice.
I'm all for a crossover - they can be really fun. But, in my opinion, there needed to be a little more description of the crossover characters for those readers (like me) who wanted to get straight to Emerald Darkness. I'm not talking spoilers but just some sort of context description for the new characters and how they interact in this world would have been really helpful.
I received this ARC and it was for a HONEST review. For some reason, a few people don't want that. I have received comments that I will address. I do not know this author and have never read anything by this author. I have had no contact with this author so this falls on some of the authors followers. I write honest reviews about how I feel about a book. I don't seek out books to review by unknown authors to me. With that being said..my original review will stand.
This book had so many characters in it that it was hard to keep up with the story.
Harper is trying her best to prevent a war but she doesn't succeed. Her friends are all surrounded by death and it seems they just can't win. Many of her friends are taken and/or killed. When Jackson is taken she does what she must to get him back only to be taken herself.
When the group splits to try and find answers, Lea and Aerden have Time to talk. She has the pendant from the hunter and the key that saved her. She still needs to know why he gave it to her.
So much death and destruction with no visible outcome.

I received an Arc to give a honest review. What can I say, Sarra Cannon is by far my favorite author. I love the characters she creates, and how what ever story she writes instantly draws you in. This book Is great!! I won't give you to much detail, except that when reading the story it brings you into a world of demons and witches fighting one another for power. Many many twist and turns. You never know what is going to happen next. I highly recommend you read the Peachville high series. You can read them first which is what I did, or if you choose not to, this book stands highly on its own. One of my favorite things about this book is the attention to detail. Also the characters and the storyline draws you so much, you feel like you know them, and you are actually in the book. Another amazing job! Can't wait for the second one.
First off, I received an advanced copy of this amazing book in exchange for an honest review. I stumbled upon Sarra Cannon's Peachville High series while looking for a new book to read. From the first book, I was truly hooked. Her writing is so captivating; I felt like I was there with the characters. This book was no different. I love the continuation of Harpers journey and cannot wait for the next book. I highly recommend this book, better yet, this author to everyone out there!! You will not be disappointed. You will laugh, you will cry and you will be hanging on to the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next! WARNING!: highly addicting and very hard to put down!!! Great job Sarra Cannon! You will forever be one of my favorite authors!
I got a advanced copy of the book from Sarra in return for a honest review.
Once you start reading you don't want to put it down. You should definitely read this book if you like Fantasy book. There are lots of twist and turns which is what makes you want to keep reading this book. It was a bit difficult at the beginning to get the hang off switch between characters but you get the hang off it but this dose not make the book any different to her other books. I personally think this set of books could be the best out of the Peachville High Demons series.
The story is well written, and I loved all of the previous books, but this book is written with a similar theme to Harry Potter, where this amazingly powerful magician (witch) does everything wrong, never prepares themselves for anything, even though they know the dangers, and all their friends die.
I found it hard to read and on many occasions I considered stopping and deleting it.
I want to read about Harper kicking some serious butt, and being more or less unstoppable like she needs to be, not some crying winging girl who is surprised every time one of her girlfriends dies while she is off baking cookies.
And stop making her friends save her every time, this theme is so old its like 100 year old paint.
Not sure I will read any more books after this one. Now she is captured and (again), someone has to go save her.
Absolutely loved this book! It gets a bit darker than the others did, but I love that! It's intense and we're left on a pretty big cliffhanger and I gotta read the next book to find out what happens next.
I also love the tortured love situation going on and like I hope everyone ends up together and happy, that's what I want.
I love how everything is unfolding. There are a few surprises and I hope there will be more to come. This series is getting really intense and I love it! Plus all the scenes where our protagonist has a chance to prove herself and all the characters are tested.
This one gets darker, there is death, harder death in this one. So watch for that. But god it was good.
A much darker installment than most of the previous books in the series. Carries on the age-old tradition of not being able to win them all. Still a very absorbing read however; yet another "24 hour special!" This could get addictive.
I begin to understand the logic behind the suggestion that "A Demon's Wrath" be read between Books 6 & 7. The shift from a single P.O.V. over to multiples took a bit of getting used to at first but ultimately made a lot of sense - especially in the lead-up to the book's climax. So.....
I have loved books 1-6. But this one was so incredibly different it was hard to get though. It’s a completely different writing style. Instead of being told from Harper’s point of view like the first 6 books the chapters alternate between the views of Harper,Lea, Jackson and Aerden. It felt like the first half of the book was constantly recapping what happened in the first 6 books. There was a lot of filler with very little new information. The last half of the book was good storyline wise but definitely was darker (similar to how dark the end of book 6 was)
As I’ve said before, though I don’t agree with the worldview expressed in this series, Sarra does an amazing job with pacing & sucking in her readers. I was rooting for Harper & excited to get in the heads of new characters fir the last half of the series. I’m hoping I can apply what I’ve learned about storytelling & pacing to my own novels.
It was so good! Harper has grown into such a powerful, strong character, a leader. And all her friends make the story better. It was sad, though, with the enemy throughout the story winning, mostly. The split perspectives were great. Each perspective helped me understand each of the main characters. It was fantastic!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this series. I am looking forward to reading more about these fascinating characters. I never thought I would invest my time into a 10 book series. I can't wait to read the next book.
A good start to the second half of the series. This book has the full cast of characters, but they get a bit fractured. Lea continues to struggle with Harper. The stage is well set as they start the process of hunting down the rest of the priestesses .
