David Pawson has a worldwide teaching ministry, particularly for church leaders. He is known to many through Christian broadcasting and is the author of numerous books. Each book in the explaining series examines an important aspect of the Christian faith and is written in a way that presents the message of the Bible clearly and simply. In this book David Pawson teaches what the Bible says about The Second Coming of Christ.
Sometimes, it can be valuable to read books by authors with whom you disagree, and such is the case with this book and Pawson's interpretation of Jesus second coming. In recent years, I have developed a completely new and radically different understanding about this than most believers, including Pawson. This understanding of mine is, of course, rooted in God's Word.
While reading Pawson's book, it becomes apparent how some verses are interpreted out of context, and certain relevant passages that I wish he had addressed are omitted—such as the verse where Jesus says that His coming would happen within His own generation. Although David Pawson connects the first few verses of Matthew 24 to the 70AD, he does not extend that same historical relevance to the rest of the chapter.
Pawson also overlooks or explains away some "imminence" verses concerning Jesus second coming and audience relevance. Additionally, he diminishes the inspiration of God's Word, of course unintentionally, by suggesting that the first Christians, including Peter and Paul, might have expected Jesus' return in their own generation but were mistaken, as no one could know the exact time. But if that were true, why did Jesus say it would occur in His generation? Did He give His followers false hope? I don’t believe so. The apostles appear to have built their understanding directly on Jesus' words, and we should too.
David Pawson is otherwise a skilled Bible teacher who has been an inspiration to many, myself included. However, when he writes about the second coming of Jesus, he is on shaky ground.
David Pawson explore the what, where, when, how and why about the second coming. I like in particular the “WHEN.” Too many books were written about this but often so confusing and conflicting. But this one based on Jesus’ own words to his disciples about the end times, David Pawson put it succinctly in its proper perspective. I would recommend all Christians to read it. Put all those theological baggage of eschatology… Read this book with open mind and heart. You would be blessed to wait watchfully for Jess’ return.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It gave me an insight into what it will be like when Jesus comes back. David explained the rapture and also issues leading up to the tribulation.
Highly recommended if you want an explanation on the second coming of Christ.
With all the craziness going on in the world it opened my eye to have a taste of what will go on in order and a little to what to expect. This book also make you look in word .
Short overview of the second coming. It was refreshing to read an alternative opinion on the rapture of the church. Pawson advocates for post tribulation rapture.
