I’m not Liam Knight’s type. Not that it matters. I’m his PA, and sleeping with your boss is the quickest road to unemployment. Still, I can’t seem to control my lust for him. And now that I’ve stumbled on to his dirty, little secret, my lust has become a fiery, irresistible burn. He’s offering me a contract to keep his secret. A contract that will bring my wildest fantasies to life…
Elizabeth Kelly is a romance novelist who spends her days writing and pushing her cat Murray off the keyboard. She firmly believes that a person can survive solely on sushi and coffee, and only her husband's mad cooking skills prevents her from proving that theory.
She also writes contemporary and paranormal romance under her alter-ego "Ramona Gray".
Every few months, the PA’s would be shifted among the lawyers at a high-end New York law firm, and it was Mae’s turn to PA for the ruthless Liam Knight. Still, no matter how much of a jackass he was known to be, Mae still harbored this lustful crush on the hot bastard. Even though she figured she was not his type with her cellulite thighs, fat stomach, and big boobs, there was no harm in fantasizing.
A slip causing a twisted ankle was all it to make her realize the Alpha in Liam Knight, making her want him even more if that’s at all possible. He just took charge of her care by driving her home, taking her car into the mechanic, stocking her fridge with food, wrapping her ankle, and carrying her to bed. It was kind of nice and annoying how Liam was fussing over her. Of course, one would wonder why complain when a rich, gorgeous millionaire is doting on your every move. Yes, that part is nice, but it’s annoying how he just takes over. So domineering, so alpha, so…BOSSY. Well, he is her boss after all. Still, Mae is known to be bossy too, especially when it comes to the boudoir. Soon, she realized what a submissive Alpha male he is with his begging and pleading to touch her and do things to her. Mae is bossy and he seems to like it.
In the midst of this constant foreplay and her “no touch-no masturbating” rule, the two contend with a gossiping columnist, who blatantly calls her fat and him a chubby chaser. It kinda makes you wonder exactly how fat she really was. I mean, yes, she’s snarky, witty, and rough around the edges, but I couldn’t stand how bossy she got.
I mean, was this it? Was this story nothing but sexual and domineering foreplay? Not only that, but I thought the two characters weren’t good together at all. And where does the contract come in? I mean, that was the title of the book. Shouldn’t there be some type of “arrangement?”
A well written F/m romance that manages to be good erotica and a good story. I've enjoyed Elizabeth Kelly's Red Moon series in the past, and was delighted to find a book from her whose description hinted at some femdom fun. I was not disappointed.
Both main characters are delightfully human, coming together to explore their desire for kinky sex while hiding the truth of their hearts from each other out of fears and insecurities that will resonate with many of us. Liam Knight's wealth can get him anything he wants--except for a woman who accepts him as he is and is willing to dominate him sexually. Mae is fighting to get out from student loan debt after discovering the hard way that nursing isn't for her and doesn't want to admit that she is attracted to her sharp-tongued boss.
One of the things I love about this story is that the character's aren't inherently incompatible people who are drawn together in spite of themselves (which seems to be the cop-out way so many romance author's create conflict). Instead, conflict between the two characters comes from their insecurities and fears to be honest with each other, while outside conflict (a no dating policy at work and an ex out to make trouble) just adds fuel to the fire.
I'm giving four stars rather than five because the spa scene and the idea that a woman can't be beautiful without waxing, make-up, and 4 hours in a salon just rubs me the wrong way.
Highly recommended for anyone interested in some light F/m and a good story.
overall, i do think it was a bit instalove for me and i wished we got more grovel from liam, but it was a fun read. i liked their banter and i liked the side characters.
When I decided to read this book I went into it without thinking of it as romance and more of an experiment. I've only ever read about males being dominant but this was reversed and it was really frickin interesting to read! I didn't find that soul deep connection that you expect to find in romances but then again, I didn't think of it as a romance so wasn't really disappointed.
I actually really liked the book except for 1 scene that really annoyed the fuck outa me and kind of left a bad taste in my mouth for the hero. Spoiler: It involves h finding H at his house with another femdom. I hated that scene even if it didn't bother the h. I took off 1 star because of it because the scene was really not needed and didn't add anything to the story except for spoiling it. Also no dual POV and it would have really made the story more in depth if the H was given a POV.
Triggers and safety warnings: -Vague femdom scene with another woman that H has at his house and h sees. Doesn't seem like a big deal to her though since mcs were not together.

The Contract is a F/M workplace romcom that includes mild bdsm (femdom) elements. Our protagonist and FMC is Mae Temple (Ms. Temple) a very competent (and secretly confident) Professional Assistant (PA) at a top law firm in an ambiguous North American City. Our MMC is Liam Knight (Mr. Knight), founder and owner of Knight and Associates, gorgeous bachelor, renowned lawyer, and a well documented dickhead of a boss. Since nobody can stand being Mr. Knight's PA the firm “rotates” PAs every couple of months so the burden of supporting his workaholic tendency and ridiculous expectations is shared. In her two years as a PA at Knight and Associates Mae has successfully avoided assignment to Mr. Knight, until now. The story is told in first person from Mae's perspective.
We quickly learn that Mae has been putting on a bit of an act at the office to appear as though she is easily upset and prone to emotional breakdowns (despite producing high quality work). She has been doing this in an attempt to dodge a rotation to support Mr. Knight. Mae dreads working for Liam Knight not only due to his notorious cruelty but also the fact that she low-key has a crush on him. Mae is comfortable and confident in her 5'4” tall +size body with boring[sic]1 dark hair and dark eyes, however; she is well aware of Liam's typical dates who are tall, thin, blonde, and blue-eyed and isn't exactly psyched about having to be around him 5 days a week knowing [thinking] she does not stand a chance with him.
Here is the the thing...Mae is not taking Liam's shit. In our opening scene when Liam questions his HR manager, Ida, for assigning Mae to him, Mae retorts, “I think you'll find I'm more capable of handling your insane workload demands”. As their working relationship begins and tells her that he doesn't appreciate sarcasm she let's him know that their “going to have a difficult working relationship”. Liam quickly learns he deserved her sass as she is the most capable PA he has ever had.
Is this the best romcom I have read? No. Is this the best office romance I have read? No. Is this the best spice I have read? No, The Contract is a beautiful unicorn that is a quality romcom, a quality boss/employee trope, a +size FMC who is the most beautiful person MMC has ever seen (and not in some weird kinky way), and gosh darn its about love and lust between a woman who likes to take charge and a man who likes to please with a setting that is not a kink club and a theme that is not the lifestyle. So for me this book gets ⭐⭐⭐⭐ in every category because it may not do anything perfectly but it does everything well and its not afraid to go against the grain (especially considering this book is from 2014).
What I liked about this book – The plot follows what I would call the classical romance story beats but we get some gasp relationship development and characterization of the side characters and we didn't need 450 pages to do it. – Mae and Liam are both believable characters and neither one feels like an archetype or hyperbole. (Also, in my experience and observations, millionaires can be down to earth and sometimes fall in love with a regular person, billionaires on the other hand are the 3,000 richest people in the world and are not and most likely do not. – It is a Romcom where parental drama or relationships are not the character defining trait of either MC nor the major third act conflict.
What I did not like about this book – There was an amazing opportunity for a legal-drama-esque B-Plot about some big case or client that the MMCs perfectly complement each other on and we just do not even go there despite a major identity of each of them is really smart and good at what they do. – I understand its fiction so I get over it to enjoy the story, however; it is highly inappropriate2 to be romantically or sexually involved with your employee as a regular manager let alone a business owner and an underpaid assistant (for some reason I find the forbidden tropes harder to look past in contemporary stories compared to fantasy or science fiction). – On a similar note, Liam's character is more like 👔👔👔 because why would a caring down to earth (albeit workaholic) law firm founder, (who is implied to be giving a bunch of money back to the community/charity) not pay his staff above market? It's a small company (we are told 15 lawyers) and you have more money than you want or need. Give your employees a raise you knob!
This was so bad that I had to take multiple breaks and gaslight myself into believing it would get better, but it didn't.
The trope of him disliking everyone but the FMC fit this book perfectly in the first half, but then he had to go ahead and be aloof over a literally tiny inconvenience.
Mae was dominant in bed, but otherwise, she was sweet and hardworking. Though she occasionally behaved oddly, it just didn't match her character sketch. I wasn't expecting her to be dominant, but damn, she made the scenes much hotter. I felt sad for her when he constantly subjected her to body shaming.
I loved how she had great friends like Russ and Steve. They were the only good thing; I loved how they cared and stood by Mae when noone else did.
It gave Fifty Shades vibes with role reversal. I don't mind books with BDSM, but I also want some chemistry with it, which was mostly lacking in here. Regardless, the spice was good.
Things I didn't like - 1. Not a big fan of OW drama, even though the OW was just a mistress who resembled the FMC, I didn't like the idea of it. 2. I found it odd that Mae agreed to the contract and desired him, yet kept calling herself a whore and prostitute when they had sex (which they initially refused to), like, girl, didn't you willingly have sex with him? The funny thing was, he wasn't even treating her poorly, so all those thoughts felt pointless. Also, prostitution is not a low job - like, what's up with seeing it as something demeaning? I just didn't like this whole bit. 3. Liam liked Mae, but you're telling me he didn't fight for her when she got fired? Wth, mann. He eventually made a big gesture and apologised, but by then it didn't matter. _____________________
I lost interest in the book after a certain point.
I barely felt any emotional connection between the MCS; there was sexual chemistry and desire, but until 90%, I couldn't sense any bond between them. Even when they felt something, they suppressed it until the very end.
The three-month gap again felt unnecessary, because what on earth happened? The last 2-3 chapters had slight drama and chemistry between the couple. The ending was meh. Happy but meh.
It's good if you're simply looking for spice; otherwise, one might just end up feeling disappointed. Overall, 2/5

So.....kind of conflicted about this book. The first half of the book annoyed me, quite often so much, I nearly dropped it. I did, however, enjoy the second half. She is a nurse that doesn't know how to deal with a sprained ankle? Seriously? Also, Liam's work personality seemed off. Supposedly he gave all his PA's a hard time, but generally it just seemed like he's a workaholic, nothing that would send one crying. I mean, one would get upset to have to work 12h shifts and the whole rotation thing could have been written off as a necessity to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Him treating Mae badly, simply for uttering another mans name made me think he has some sort of bipolar disorder. Didn't like the "models (slim, tall, pretty women) are dumb, shallow" theme that was going on either. The "contract" bit should have happened, or at least been suggested earlier on in the book. I preferred the story, and Liams' character in the second half of the book.
What the heck, this was much better than I thought it would be!
I don’t think I have much to say about this other than the fact that I love me a BBW loving, submissive, boob man. I love Liam very much, and Mae was perfect with him.
I really need more fem-dom books, cause there are so many regular smegular bdsm books, but is ladies deserve to be on top more!
This is my first time reading this author, and I’m wondering what else she’s got up her sleeve!
I have read several books by this author. I like her style. This is an in-depth romance, not one of those wam bam thank you mams. All the characters are well thought out and the romance is built methodically. The sexy scenes were so much fun, amateur Dom to making love. Yay!! Will be reading more from this author.
i liked it at the beginning and was hoping to give it a higher rating, but it quickly deteriorated. everything they did was sex, but they kept repeating that they're not having sex because they didn't have piv specifically. when she gave him a blowjob for money she didn't feel like a whore because that's not sex, but the moment he fucked her suddenly she felt bad for being a prostitute...
The plot is inconsistent, the timeline jumpy and weird. Scenes it would have been good to read are skipped, and we get too many unimportant and overly-detailed scenes.
There's no chemistry between the main characters, and their attraction to each other is shown through jealousy, which isn't cute.
This could've been soo good. But the halfhearted go at the whole sub/dom thing just didn't work for me. There wasn't enough expansion on the 2 lead characters to really buy into it. BUT... I didn't hate it.
I liked the vibe of natural, no discussion, just assumed “alright we’re doing this.” It was refreshing. And gentle femdom with alphahole was great, want more like this!
Reasonably enjoyable erotic romance. This is not a favourite genre of mine because I prefer my romance with more focus on story and character and less on sexy times where as with erotic romance focus is on sex, sex and more sex. However I did like the turning of the tables with the heroine Mae being the one to dominate and the hero Liam while being alpha in everyday life, being the submissive in the bedroom. I did find the endless sex got boring (the have a contract for a month meaning 4 weekends so basically we get descriptions of the multitude of sex acts over the whole first weekend. Ok that is fine, but then we get a blow by blow of the entire following 3 weekends and for me it just got boring. However as this is something I find with all erotic romance that Is likely to be an issue for me rather than any problem with the story itself.
The Contract by Elizabeth Kelly is a sublime love story between Mea and Liam, a boss and his assistant, wth a wicked twist. The story could have been trite but it wasn't. It had enough plot dynamic to make me root for them and wonder how it would resolve for the two main characters. The story was just kinky enough to be interesting without going to that weird 50 Shades place. The plot was different enough to stay intetesting, the setting was relevant to regular people and the characters were real. I loved this book! Elizabeth Kelly is an author that you should watch. I can't wait to read Saving Charlotte when it comes out, so in the meantime I'll be reading more of the books that she has already published. You should definitely get this book!
Though I am not into the "Fifty Shades" style books, I did find this one to be a decent read. Not only does the author give a decent plot (most of the time I find the stories like this to be more focused on the intimate aspects rather than any kind of plot) but the main character, Mae, is a real female. She's not the Super Hot Chic next door who falls into the millionaires lap, and has everything handed to her. In a sense she is a relatable character. I would have loved to see more interaction with her family, but that aside, thumbs up.
For me, this was a different type of story from what I usually read. That said, I enjoyed it very much and got to see and understand a type of relationship I knew existed, but didn't quite understand the allure of it. I appreciated that.
The writing was solid, the characters came across exceptionally well, and the plot flowed nicely. And, the sex was handled well and it was hot.

I really liked this book. Read a preview and I had to get to this one right away. Elizabeth Kelly is becoming a favorite author of mine and so far, I loved everything she's written. Can't wait for more.
I thought I was really going to enjoy this book after reading a snippet of it at the end of The Recruit. I was pretty disappointed because I don't feel the characters were consistent through the book. They were portrayed one way and then would act in a way that wasn't true to the character. This inconsistency made the story less enjoyable for me.
Although a little reminiscent of Shades of Gray this novel nevertheless proved very entertaining with it's little twists and some very likeable characters some hot situations. An enjoyable read!
