Hagerman: Out of Jail and On the Football Field

Rate this book
“Football is not a sport, but a religion in Rocky Montoya’s hometown of Premium, Texas. As the handsome, star quarterback of the Premium High School football team, Rocky is worshipped by the whole town and develops a cocky arrogance. Yet his father deserted his family, and his waitress mother is too busy with her own life to pay much attention to him. Then, one night, Rocky’s life is turned upside down after he's blamed for losing the state championship. His popularity plummets, the team shuns him as an outcast, and his cheerleader girlfriend wants nothing more to do with him. Devastated, he heads on an alcohol-fueled rampage of self-destruction that ends in a serious altercation with the Premium police. He makes a deal with a compassionate judge to attend Hagerman Military School instead of serving jail time. At Hagerman, Rocky struggles to survive by learning some life lessons about leadership, perseverance, discipline and humility as he attempts to revive his once promising football career.
