Well, once again the twists and turns of this book have left me shocked, amazed, sad, happy and everything else in between, so I am left with feeling a sense of indifference. I am at a loss for words really and I think that is the shock Malone has left me with. I never could have imagined that this is how it was going to end. I thought something similar to it, but I thought (without giving away anything) that it was going to be another character and in a slightly different way. Either way I thoroughly enjoyed this series and would love for this to be made into a movie!

Amazing!

All the books up to this one have been amazing thus far, and though the story has changed its all bittersweet. A lot of questions were answered, the mystery solved for the most part over what stance the characters played; what each of their connections were in this whole dark mystery. Excited to see what the next chapter in this series holds.

Amazing story!

Wow! What a wrap up! It was an unexpected climax (though I should have seen it coming), and a fast denouement. Absolutely amazing ride!

Contains no sex, maybe not even a kiss. It does have swearing and violence.

The Beast

Truly enjoyed this 5th book of the Awakened Fate series by Skye Malone. She has such imagination and brings it all to life in her books! So much action, it is hard to put down!

Best one yet

Great action. Tough choices but as I suspected, Chloe is strong. I felt for them too when no one listens. It's a struggle we all deal with at some point. Another tough situation in life is when a choice is made for you and teams your heart

Amazing

This book had my emotions up and down. When I was at work all I wanted to do was read. This isn't the end of the series, but it kind of felt like the end. This author has a new fan!

Last book in this series. Would love to have read more. It was sort of expected the way it ended but it brought all the books to a tidier end.

Read all 9 books in the series. It's really good. Mermaids, wizards, and other newly created supernatural figures. This was a unique story and a real page-turner. I highly recommend.

The Beast, A Family Reunion, and One Last Epic Fight Against the Sylphaen.

I received a copy of Become in exchange for an honest review.

Chloe is facing a big decision. Should she take the potion that Joseph the wizard prepared for her before one of Noah's cousins killed Joseph and the Beast blew up the wizard's home? Taking the potion will change everything - either making her Landwalker or Dehaian forever. Then a phone call from Zeke's sister Ina changes everything and the decision becomes irrelevant.

Zeke and his grandfather Jirral have been arrested by Zeke's brother Ren and the Sylphaen are infiltrating Nycenia with the help of Zeke's other brother, Niall. Chloe asks Ina to relay a message to Niall and the Sylphaen that unless they release Zeke and his grandfather Chloe will take the potion that will split herself like the old Dehaians did and then the Sylphaen will never be able to use her to control the Beast. Instead of giving in the Sylphaen try to force Zeke to bring Chloe back to the ocean with him, but their plot backfires when Zeke refuses to help and he, Chloe, Noah, Baylie, the Landwalkers, and Noah's family escape before the Sylphaen can get their hands on Chloe.

With the Sylphaen holding Ina, Chloe, Zeke, and Noah devise a plan to end this battle against the Sylphaen once and for all. They will travel to Lycera and enlist the help of Zeke's mother's (the acting queen) soldiers and con the Sylphaen into coming inland where a surprise will be waiting to attack them. What Chloe never expected was to run into her biological father or that such a reunion would complicate things so much more.

The biggest battle of their lives looms ahead with danger, betrayal, and treachery at every corner. Will Chloe, Zeke, Noah, and the others be able to defeat the Sylphaen once and for all? Or will the Sylphaen finally be able to complete the ritual that will allow them to control the Beast? Will everyone make it out of this alive? Where will Chloe be at the end of all this, and more importantly - who will she choose? Zeke? Or Noah?

As a finale to Chloe's battle against the Sylphaen and finding out who she is I thought this book fit in perfectly with the series. I couldn't put this book down because I wanted to see what was going to happen next. The action is high in Become and trouble is still coming at Chloe from all sides.

I loved finding out who Chloe's father was and seeing how the implications of her father's position and his people affected the story. Suddenly all of Ren's accusations sound plausible except for that the reader knows Chloe is innocent - but seeing Ina and Zeke's mother question that makes you worry for Chloe and wonder if Zeke's mother will be yet another on a long list of people who've betrayed them.

The only thing I didn't like as much was that we were still dealing with Chloe's non-handling of the love triangle between her, Zeke, and Noah. At times I wanted to scream "just pick one and then you can focus on more important things!" But then at the end, it sort of becomes a non-issue because one-third of the triangle sort of takes himself out of the running.

Overall, besides the way Chloe continued to handle the love triangle, I loved this book, and the ending left me satisfied even if I nearly teared up. I'm glad Chloe ended up with who she did, but the fate that befalls the other guy in this love triangle is bittersweet. I also thought Wyatt's fate was very fitting. He really had it coming.

I'm glad that this is the final novel in this series. This series has confused the hell out of me and I'm getting tired of it. The viewpoints are changing constantly and the author keeps adding to it. This is something that all authors should avoid it if at all possible, because it hardly ever works out. It certainly doesn't work with this novel and I don't think that Skye Malone has figured that out yet. It's a damn shame that she didn't realize this sooner.

In this novel Chloe and Zeke have had everything that could possibly go wrong, actually go wrong. When they were at the wizard's house the Beast found them. Something in Chloe's powers had messed up his protective barriers and signaled the Beast. Because of this the wizard's powers and the Beast's all combined into one. Which sent out a blast that has somehow changed everyone. In ways that they can't even begin to understand yet. Now the wizard is dead and the Beast is more powerful than ever. However, before the wizard died he made Chloe a potion. A potion that will transform her into either Landwalker or are Dehaian, but not both. This scares Chloe, because she can't imagine her life as a Landwalker. It's the one thing that she doesn't want to become and she'll do anything to prevent it. That's why the potion is a last resort for her. So instead of doing that Zeke comes up with another plan. A plan that involves going to see his mother for the first time in years. One that may not even work. Which is why Chloe also adds her own idea to plan. Making it a plan that everyone is willing to risk everything for. However, when they all start on their way to see Zeke's mother they're captured. Captured by a man who is known for being harsh and who also happens to look a lot like Chloe too.

This novel is a lot like the others in this series in every way, shape, and form. It's a young adult urban fantasy novel, with bits of action, fighting, and mystery to it. There's really no romance to it at all, even when the author tries to insist there is. That's just not how the plot of this novel plays out. This plot has more frustration and anguish in it the most do. Which just makes the plot somewhat bearable. The anguish sort of takes away all of the unnecessary stuff that we had to read throughout the earlier novels. Making it at least more bearable for us. However, this doesn't change my recommendation at all. Because I highly recommend that you don't even bother picking up this novel. Or searching for this series either. It's all just a big waste of time and I'm not even sure why I wasted mine by reading them.

I know I stand with the minority here but I'm disappointed. For a few reasons. SPOILERS AHEAD

I'll start off with that damn love triangle. I did say from the beginning that I didn't like them. I just don't. But this, this must be one of the most awful one I've read about. She clearly cares for them both. I would dare say that she loves them both. Yet, it seems that she doesn't want to chose before taking that damn potion thingy. Of course if she becomes a mermaid, she'll probably stay with Zeke and if she becomes a landwalker, she won't be able to be with Zeke and will probably stay with Noah. Because while he prefers to be near the ocean, he can be more inland.
SO, it's not a choice really, it's called choosing by default. Sorry, but that's wrong on so many levels.
But that's not all, instead of having Chole choose, clearly, between the two of them, Skye Malone just got rid of one of them. Great, right? No, no it's not great. It's awful. She stays with the other by default. She loves him, sure, but still. She loves the other one too.
This love triangle kind of ruined it for me.

And secondly, the end of the story is rushed. All these books building up to this finale, aaaaaand... what? Nothing. Nothing big, nothing horrible. Just flat out nothing. Niall changes camp out of NOWHERE, Noah is becoming the BEAST so it doesn't attack Chole. When Noah comes back on the shore, instead of going to see his family, he goes to see chloe first because, well, she's just THAT important, right?
Speaking of Noah's family, please tell me where they have been in the previous books? Since they broke out of that madman's lab, they could have used the help of Peter and Maddox... But hey, what do I know?

I'm sad really, because I enjoyed the world Skye Malone created and I think it deserves to be developed more, but I saw the summary of the next book and there's no way I'm reading about Noah falling with another girl and suddenly Chloe becoming a Queen because she just had Zeke left.

Okay so here's how this one went down (don't worry no spoilers). This one was by far the most action packed of them all! It is such a high toss up to which is my favourite book in the series but this one is definitely on that list. I know I said that 'Return' has the most romance but this one comes close.
There was so much action to this book and the ending drew me in so deep that I stopped seeing the words and it was purely a movie in my head!
I just couldn't even begin to put into words how much I loved this book series and I hope that anyone else reading it or planning to read it will take as much satisfaction from it as I did.
When the end came I felt so lost. Whenever I get into a books series I connect with it so deeply it almost becomes a part of me. The majority of my time spent in my head rather than in reality would pretty much dazzle anyone, and connecting to a story and to character like I do can reil you in pretty deep, so when that book series ends, it's as if that part of you that connected with the book and it's contents has been ripped away from you. I'm telling you now that the part of my brain that has connected with all the books I have read is so completely battered and bruised from each time it had been pulled away from a story like that, I honestly believe it will never recover.
Many people would probably think something along the lines of, "what on Earth is up with her?", but if you really allow your mind to enter a story and link with it like I do, you enjoy the book so much more.
After all the character I have met and all the stories I have dived into, I have never forgotten any of them and they are always with me in my imagination, I often remind myself of the adventures I have shared with some of these characters and won't forget them in a hurry.
To sum it up, it was awesome, you have to read it, YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!!

"I dropped below the water, and kicked away from the sea floor. The change raced through me, disintegrating my clothes and transforming my legs into a tail."

Become was the last book in The Awakened Fate series! This was such an exciting read! Full of betrayal, suspense, love, friendship, death, royalty, and secrets. I had to read this book in one sitting because I had to know what was going to happen next! I could not put it down.

Chloe, Zeke, and Noah returned to the ocean. Yes, I did say Noah! Let's just say that Chloe's powers are growing more and more each day. Almost everyone in the ocean are their enemies. How do you trust? Who do you trust? Can Zeke and Chloe even trust their parents? Yes, we do meet Chloe's real dad in this book! But that is all I can say! Who he is will shock you! You will have to read the book for yourself to know how their final plan went, along with their final battle! You will also find out who Chloe picks! Yay for love triangles!!

Skye Malone is amazing! I still can't figure out how she created all the creatures she did! They were awesome creatures and characters! Each and every character had their own unique personality and I fell in love with all of them. Not Noah's cousins though. This book wasn't just your average mermaid book. There were actually other creatures hunting mermaids for once, instead of your usual human vs. Mermaid story.

I'm very sad this series is over, but Skye Malone informed me that something exciting is coming!!! Woohooo!!! I really recommend this series.

What's to love and hate

I read the series. The plot is good. The characters are good. It keeps your interest from beginning to end. Sprinkled throughout the series, like a light dusting of arsenic, is gutter language. It added nothing to the story, in fact it distracted. The end was unsatisfactory. Chloe never made a definitive choice between her love interests. We leave her living with one and pining for the other still emotionally unstable over the two. Really hated that. You're left not with the relief of a final victory but with sadness.

Reading this a second time through and I feel like the story kind of droned on where Chloe constantly is being kidnapped or attacked. Still a good story in the series.
