***Due to language, violence, and sexual situations, this book is recommended for mature audiences.*** It’s been two months. Two months since Gabrielle survived the horror that was Samhain. Two months since she slipped from the devil’s clutches. Two months since she learned that she might have to face him again. Her nights are plagued by dreams of him, and she wakes to find that she’s creeping closer to that unholy reunion. So when a ritualistic murder occurs on a ley line in Romania and Gabrielle is called in to investigate, it seems like a harbinger of things to come. Angelic victims, a killer that smells like ash and roses, and wounds that speak of pagan sacraments—it should be enough evidence for Gabrielle to solve the case and get back to her winter break. But the clues keep slipping through her fingers; someone is always one step ahead. In the same city, Andre De Leon, king of the vampires, stands trial for the massacre at Bishopcourt, and his coven’s justice system is infamous for its cruelty. Up until now he’s been able to shield Gabrielle from their brutality, but her nearness makes her vulnerable to their wrath, and they will use her to get to Andre. A killer, a vampire trial, the devil—all in the same city. It’s too coincidental, which is to say that it is not a coincidence at all. Fate has betrayed her.
Found in the forest when she was young, Laura Thalassa was raised by fairies, kidnapped by werewolves, and given over to vampires as repayment for a hundred year debt. She’s been brought back to life twice, and, with a single kiss, she woke her true love from eternal sleep. She now lives happily ever after with her undead prince in a castle in the woods.
… or something like that anyway.
When not writing, Laura can be found scarfing down guacamole, hoarding chocolate for the apocalypse, or curled up on the couch with a good book.

Don't know if I should round this one up or down😶.
Again addicting series, the main character annoyed me just a little bit in this one. I found myself laughing in this one time to time, probably has to do with my favorite diva Oliver😄!!
3.8 starsWhere are our half stars ratings, Goodreads?! There was a lot of action in this book and I liked it. The relationship between Gabrielle and Andre is a bit annoying at times, but I can get over that.
This book is called The Cursed and it's a good name because we see more of Gabrielle's sorry life. But the perfect title would be The Stupid. She is more stupid than cursed and if you read this book you know it too. Even she says it in the book: "I'm an idiot". Yes Gabs, you are. She knows when something bad will happen and she still goes towards trouble without help and wanting to sacrifice herself.
I do not hate her, because if I did it wouldn't bother me so much how moronic she is. I seriously yelled at the book. I hope she starts thinking before acting pretty soon because it's not appealing that this wanna be badass heroine keeps making things easy for the bad guys / gals.
I did not enjoy the rude banter between Gabrielle and Oliver and that has been a problem since book 1. Calling each other names and then saying they love each other is not cool to me, at least not in the way they do it. I'm starting to tolerate Oliver more but still I wish it were different.
I still feel that there are a lot of little things from this series that keep being repeatitive. Even Gabrielle says it at the end. And it is! She gets shot . AGAIN. Rolling my eyes. Plus let's not forget the whole devil thing. He's being after Gabrielle from book 1 and I hate him and he's repulsive but the guy makes things so easy for Gabrielle, because honestly he wasn't the brightest bulb in this book ... sad.
I hated the stupid fights that Gabrielle picked with Andre and visceversa. It was once again repetitive. He wanted to protect her without caring for anything else and did not even bother to take a minute and listen to her. I hated that he ordered her around and for that I feel for Gabs. She wanted to be independent and kept saying she wasn't nobody's girl and I kept thinking: "If they really talk and listen to each other, the book would end faster."
It took me longer than necessary to read The Cursed. Actually, a lot of things happened but I feel like they were not well developed. I was not going to continue wasting my time with this series but then at the very end something happened and it seems like Andre and Gabrielle will finally fight together instead of each other.
What I like. *** thinking *** well, I guess that I liked some sexy scenes at the beginning. I liked getting to know more supernatural beings and how awesome their powers were, even if they were the evil ones.
I like that I didn't skip pages from this book and for that it wins half a star more than the previous one. The pacing is fast but the problem is the lack of character development. Btw Caleb was a pain in the ass, the only thing he did was figure out the prophecy and I bet Oliver would have found out sooner or later.
If you did not like this book or even if you did like it. I recommend The Bargainer by the same author. There you are in this crazy supernatural world but you get complex characters with an awesome plot and mysteries.
◙ The plot is definitely thickening, and there's more mystery and more intriguing stuff that doesn't make sense here, which is why I enjoyed it more. ◙ Caleb, still annoying af, I don't know why Gabrielle is still around him, being the type of person she is who 'doesn't take shit from Andre', she sure as hell is from Caleb. ◙ The Vampire Coven are idiots. They literally solved a murder and Gabrielle nearly got kidnapped by the devil, and they want her to stand trial? More complications I guess. ◙ I like the change in the scenery in this one, Romania. ◙ I want to know more about Andre's past. How can he speak so many languages? This is something I would like to read about, and find out.
The ending: Wow, the supernatural world is really messed up! It's like having a justice system that serves the opposite of justice. I feel like book 4 will be a chaotic journey.
This series just gets better.. I will admit I found this one a little more slow paced than the past two books but that's probably nothing to do with Laura's writing and more to do with the fact that I had knowledge of what was going to happen at some point after learning of future events in the past books.. but i still have so much love for Andre's and gabrielles relationship... hiw their relationship and bond just keeps getting stronger... oliver will forever be my favourite male book best friend.. but I do think giving the gay fairy a gun was definately a mistake but extremely comical.. I'm looking forward to the last instalment to this series... round of applause for laura who's work continues to captivate, amuse and break me
This was such a great book!!! ANDRE!!!! It is just as good if not better than the one before it and that in itself is a hard task!! I love oliver and he will always be my book best friend forever!!!! The ending left me wanting so much more and I swear! 2015 can't get here soon enough!!! Way to go Miss Thalassa!!! Well done and bravo!!!! I can read these books over and over again!!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I must confess that Andre and Callie are too cute together and the plot in this book with the victims along the ley lines was exciting (and a little bit freaky ><) I love the fact that we have a mix of several of my favorite myths that intermingle with references to Moirai but also Persephone ... And Oliver makes me laugh so much xD BUT even if I really like this series, it's not a favorite, not like the story of Des and Callie ... It's nothing but a few things that annoy me : Caleb who frankly is very useless, Callie who still continues to have stupid reactions (make a deal with the devil = bad idea, do not respect a deal with the devil = BAD BAD IDEA !!), Andre who sometimes annoys me (especially the scene where he is jealous of Oliver ... HELLO !!!) ... Finally, I will read the next book anyway because I'm curious =)
This was a fantastic sequel to the first two books in the series. I absolutely loved this book and now consider it to be a favorite of mine. I loved the Romanian setting. I loved the murder mystery aspect and all of the twists and turns. The inclusion of the Hades and Persephone story was a nice touch. Oliver was amazing in this book. The ending has left me wanting more and I can't wait to continue on with this series. "Other teenagers got clothes and electronics for Christmas. I got my name on a hit list."-Gabrielle
Another enjoyable read from Laura Thalassa. I'm really liking how respectful of our MC the love interest is as well. I can really start to see LT's growth as a writer become apparent as I progress through this series as well.
I love the world that Laura Thalassa has built for Gabrielle and Andre. It's such a beautiful mix of romance, fantasy, and intensity--all within the realms of the world we live in. She brings in the events from the previous two books and continues to take it further, yet still leaves us wondering, "What's really going on?" and "How will Gabrielle defeat the devil of all people?" She takes the overall series arch and stirs it together with each individual story arch flawlessly, leaving me clamoring for more. More. MORE!
I'm not rehash the story in the review, you'll have to read it yourself, but I think both Gabrielle and Andre grow tremendously in this third installment. As people and as a couple--soulmates. I think even Oliver grows a little. Just a little, but still. :) The fairy dude uses a gun for crying out loud!
Great book, and I'm so looking forward to January 2015 for book #4.
It took me a while to finish this one.. I was bored. I really liked the first 2 books... But it's like the same plot over and over. I kind of wished that this would have been just a trilogy and she would have wrapped up in this book. But there's 2 more?! I mean how many times can Gabrielle get kidnapped, have her friends come to her rescue and escape the devil? That's literally what keeps happening. *sigh* the only thing that keeps me interested is Oliver and Andre. I'm just not sure if they're enough to make me read the next 2 books. I think sometimes the authors drag out a story (which is exactly how I felt when I read The Mortal Instruments. Why wasn't that just a trilogy? Whhy? I refused to even read them after book 4..) It's fine if you're going to make 6 books to your series... But you can't have the same thing happen over and over. I'm considering reading book 4, but my expectations are quite low.
This is a supernatural story and our heroine is technically an adult in this supernatural world. But it still feels wrong that she is only 17 and she’s dealing with attempted rape, often forced to deal with issues of consent and that the people she’s around namely all men have a habit of leering at her and always imposing on her. Yes this book was written several years ago and I may largely be over thinking it all, but it still rubs me the wrong way. Also this book was riddled with editing errors unlike the first 2 and everything was just so rushed. Think about it, she’s in Europe currently, and she video chatted her mom when and it happened to be the same day? California and Romania are roughly 9 or 10 hours apart. As Andre was sleeping... I’d imagine it would’ve been Christmas Eve morning and that’s not how it appeared in the book. Also... wouldn’t her mom tried to get a hold of her a bit more as it’s their first holiday apart!!?!
Quand je disais que je voulais que Andre et Gabrielle s'envoient en l'air... ce n'était pas vraiment ce que j'avais en tête. Mais ok Laura Thalassa, bien joué ! Intéressant en tout cas de voir la mythologie remaniée, on avait déjà quelques indices avec les livres précédents, mais tout ceci se concrétise !
SPOILER THEORY Donc si Gaby est Perséphone, que le Diable est Hades... est-ce que Andre est Déméter et fait sa crise de rage quand elle disparaît dans le royaume des morts ? C'est peut-être pour ça qu'il a réussi à la ramener, Déméter est la déesse des moissons après tout... donc de la vie aussi quelque part.
N'empêche que le Diable avait dit d'utiliser son cadeau, pas de le boire. Donc elle aurait pu se servir autrement du sang tout en respectant son marché.
Et hop ! On va lire la suite très vite pour finir cette série, maintenant qu'on arrive dans une situation désespérée comme on les aime, il est temps de conclure avec un joli ruban !
Another fun, fast paced instalment in the series. I'm enjoying the Hades and Persephone role this book played and find that the original story being a prophecy instead of a past event very intriguing.
I wish the romance would heat up between Andre and Gabrielle, I enjoy the slow burn but considering this is book three I need something more! Also hoping to see more of Leanne in the next book.
I rated this one slightly lower than the previous two as I feel instead of incorporating more plot lines the author could have developed the characters more. I feel as if I don't know much about Andre, to delve into some of his long past could have been beneficial to the overall plot. Oliver was also a main part of this story but other than him being a funny gay best friend fairy we don't know much else about him.
The book ended on a major cliff-hanger so I'll be jumping straight into book 4 which will hopefully have more character development.
This series is basically summed up in this quote from Oliver... “You mean to tell me that Andre was finally DTF, and the devil cock blocked you?”. I lie. There is so much more to it but come on... get.it.on... and that ending! Wow! Also I've said it in my review of every book in this series, but I'll say it again... I really, really love the characters in this series. Gabrielle, Adrian & Oliver are so much fun. Gabrielle is strong, independent, brave & brilliantly sarcastic. Andre is just so sexy & Oliver is funny, loyal & strong.
Gabrielle is truly one badass girl. She has survived two deaths in this series and she is bracing for more danger! Gabrielle and Andre are soulmates destined to fight the odds. Their love for each other has evolved and been tested tremendously but the devil will try to ruin them and snatch Gabrielle again. I just wish he gives up and leave them in peace. I adore Oliver and how he stood up to help his dear friend. We all need an Oliver in our lives! I can’t wait to finish this series!
There was definitely a lot of action in this book. Gabrielle somehow got the title of demonologist and has been recruited by the Policia to go solve these murders in a different country. While she’s there, she realizes that her soulmate is also in the same country doing his trial. She definitely has a lot of action in this book but I wasn’t sure whether I really like the ending or not. I feel like the book might be getting a little ridiculous so I’m not sure if I’m going to read the next book in this series or not.
Fate double dipped and now this seventeen? eighteen? (she had a birthday during this book) girl has to deal with the backlash. I have a notion a lot of these organizations are setting her up to fail. They fear her because not only is she the soulmate to the vampire king, she is also Persephone to Hades. "The devil" that has been following her.
Pluto/The Devil does not take kindly to his thwarted attempts, and by the end of this book he's even more angry. I wonder what he's going to do in the fourth book?
The adults leaving this world to the kids. Good luck, kids!
Since book two was an okay read for me, I have hope this book would draw me back into the series. Now I finished The Cursed, I still don't feel strongly about it. Mainly because the newly reveal of Greek mythology twist in this book. I am not overly fond of
->After the lack of relationship development for Andre and Gabriell in book two, I was glad this book make-up for it, mostly.
On the latest story development...
Once again, an evil plot is blooming to lurk Gabriell into her doom. This time, they might actually success. Too many coincidences that lead to only one conclusion, whatever is killing out there is intended for Gabriell to lead this murder investigation, but to what purpose? Meanwhile, Andre is away to stand trial for the massacre at Bishopcourt. While the devil is constantly haunting Gabriell in her dreams and sometime even in broad daylight. Danger is all around Gabriell, a group of devil worshiper will go to extreme measure to deliver Gabriell's soul to the devil. Scales will be tip, destiny is yet to be set in stone, how will Gabriell survive this time?
->So, at some point I would like to see the explanation of how Gabriell being a Soulmate but also a Consort for the devil as well. To quote from book 1 The Unearthly:
"...You have a single true love out there. Only in the supernatural world, it means your soul is inextricably bound to him or her; it’s a physiological, psychological, and spiritual connection.”
->Is Soulmate merely for romantic purpose? So far I am not seeing anything great about this connection. It would take more than tangle connection to impressed me.
In The Cursed, we learn yet another new prophecy on Gab. This new, or rather an old prophecy is supposedly it's a prophecy about Gabriell and the devil.
->With that we finally learn the motive behind the devil's obsession for Gabriell, I think. This was a surprise twist, though I am not completely sold on this theory, perhaps we will learn more about it in the next book.
->So about this trial, since Andre is the King, does this mean they can't really truly punished him, if he is found guilty? Which would explain why the Vampires are trying to find faults and loopholes from Gabriell. Someone have to pay for the massacre. Poor Gab, I wonder who is on your side.
For Gabriell, it seem everyone is out to get her. Now the cat is out of the bag, she won't be safe anywhere she goes. However, at least the vampire community would know the importance of Gabriell is to Andre. ->but somehow I doubt this would stop the vampires to kill Gabriell. For Gabriell represent the extinction of the vampires species.
->I have a bit mixing feelings for Gabriell, one moment she is mature like, then the next moment she is acting like child. I understand she wants to be independent, but sometime she need to see the bigger picture.I am all about independence, but there also something called being smart. Being smart to ask for help, to accept help, when you need it.
Andre and Gab's relationship progress rather slow, despise being soulmates, because the age differences and among other things, A and G (mainly Andre) have decided to take it slow. While they have expressed their love for each other in this book, they still haven't done the deeds yet->which is quiet alright, this is YA after all. Don't get me wrong there were plenty of sexy chemistry, and attention. But always at the last minute something would interrupted the moment. Given how one of the interruption was by the devil himself, I think Andre and Gab should just go for it, maybe then the devil would leave her alone. ->my wishful thinking of course.
To be honest this series started out good and interesting, I was looking forward to learn more about Gabriell and her heritage, and how would Gabriell affect the Vampires community. Then the direction of the book took a different turn, which are now mainly focus on the devil plus the additional new twist, which aren't as interesting for me. I will be glad to see when the devil situation is situated.
So where the heck was that traitor? We never heard from him again.
->you know whom I am referring to.
Overall, I did enjoy reading The Cursed, I'll admit mostly because Gabriell and Andre's relationships are finally making progress. Even though I am not quite convince on the new plot twist yet. I will have to wait and see how this will unfold.
I learned many things In this book. One of them is that this world is very loosely built. There is sooo much I don't know about ALOT of it. Right now I'm mostly concerned with how Gabrielle and Andre are going to get past this next set of challenges!? Oh and, obviously, the editor took the day off on this book. Boo.
I loved the first book of this series, but the second and third one are starting to get on my nerves a little. Gabrielle makes stupid decisions again and again, and her stubbornness is to the point of being obnoxious. I am liking her less and less so I don't think I will finish the series.
