The Dragon's Wrath: Shadows in the Flame (Volume 3) takes off where Ashes of the Fallen (Volume 2) left off, resuming with Sigurd's war and his desire to create and construct a kingdom in the North. As new challenges and old faces both suddenly appear, he finds himself mired in a conflict far beyond his control. Attempting to push through anyways, one man attempts to change the fate of thousands.
Brent Roth is a fictional character in The Dragon's Wrath... and was a tongue-in-cheek joke of a Pen Name lending to the first-person narrative. Now that I've realized the mistake and the issues that might cause, it's sort of too late!
Ah well!
About me:
I started writing when I was a young adult but never thought about publishing or even letting others read my work. Ultimately, after a series of events and a few years down the road, I decided to publish a book to see how the process worked and if people would actually enjoy my work.
I would like to think, that most people did.
So here I am now, writing more books!
My background is relatively storied and diverse, as I've walked a lot of different paths, worked and lived the highs and lows, and have been at the bottom and the top. I've traveled the world, spent numerous months in third world countries, and consider myself fairly cultured and generally experienced "at life." It's from those experiences that I draw inspiration for a lot of the "things" I write about, and it also serves to keep me grounded going forward.
Originally a History Major while working odd service jobs, I turned to being a small-business owner while studying Accounting, running a restaurant for a couple of years until I eventually decided that wasn't for me. That led me to relocating and studying Linguistics at the University of California, San Diego and enjoying the good life, while preparing for a life in the service. That didn't work out, thanks to my health.
So with the Navy no longer an option, I've decided to focus on being the best writer that I can be. I'm still a budding Author, but I believe I'll be around for quite some time.
Any who, thank you for reading this little informal biography of mine, and I hope you enjoy my current work and the future ones that are on the way!
This series has good ideas but lacks follow-through. Sigurd , MC, has grand plans such as farming, planting, raising cats, creating a marketplace, but then these are not really mentioned again. The changing behaviour of Kate, his Companion, is brought up, but not explored. She started as a major character, but is relegated to a minor role in this book. Lastly, the cave finding is of great import, but again, it is forgotten aside from an allusion. Irritating behaviour by Emily and Valerie makes it difficult to have empathy and their characters are not clearly defined. Minor editing errors. Hopefully, if there is another instalment, these topics will be clarified.
This series Has it all.. Action packed, drama , love story well written and exciting throughout. I was never board for a moment. The only bad thing about this series is that there is not a fourth book.. If you are a litrpg fan then this is one series you need to check out. To the author i know it has been a few years but I hope inspiration comes back to you and you bring this series to an exciting conclusion.
Maybe it's just getting more into the world, but these books get better and better. The main character struggles with his sanity and morals, while being a fun badass in the game and barely existing outside it.
I have read a lot of books in the rpg world and not taking anything away from the greats like the land series,I keep coming back to this one I find myself almost devoted to the characters and the world. So please continue with the great writing
The virtual game mechanics in this The Dragon's Wrath series are the most accurate and thoughtful I've seen so far in any book of this genre. Is that a desirable feature in a book? That's debatable and the answer will probably be a different one from every reader, but I for one like it this way, because it stays true to what I know and never lets me forget, that the protagonist has started to live in a virtual world. A number of other successful authors have taken their stories into a very different direction, so it feels rather refreshing to actually see an author stay faithful to the definition of the LitRPG genre.
While the first two books in this series also included a sub-plot outside of the game, these scenes didn't overshadow the central tale. I actually liked the fact, that they were sparsely used and still manage to influence and drive the general plot in this series.
I gave this book a rating of 4 stars, which is rather high for me already, but it reflects the enjoyment I had while reading . One reason why I don't feel this book is worth a full five stars is the fact, that it doesn't feel polished enough. It is difficult to imagine, that there could be enough time to write, proofread and edit a 140k words long novel in the span of only 8-16 weeks.
Awesome! I have been eagerly waiting the release of this book and wasn't disappointed. I loved the mix between city building, questing, and PVP. Especially, loved the epic battle!
(2nd time reading) 4 stars
Still enjoyed the book, but was struck by the violence more this time. Not a big fan of assasinating peeps for the greater good. Although I did enjoy the battles and how he overcame the different enemies.
Wish he took the city building to the next level and made it more magical. In my opinion no one does as good a job as Aleron Kong in creating a truly magical city that incorporates all the potential awesomeness that a fantasy world has to offer.
Bummed the author gave up on writing. I followed his blog back when he was writing these and he mentioned he finished book 4, but was revamping it because he wanted it to go in a different direction. He even made a couple chapters of book 4 available on his website. He then later said he was stopping due to health reasons and the fact that he wasn’t making as much money off publishing these books as he hoped he would. Bummer.
I very much enjoyed this volume, it seemed more polished then the previous ones. At this point I cannot wait for the next one as I really want to see what kind of rewards were given for the actions he took towards the end. It could prove to be useful in expanding his town.
The other thing that I am really interesting in finding out about in Kate. Really hope that is does not end badly as I quite like her character. There is so much potential in her and what appears to be happening with her progression. Though to be honest, that particular story-line confused me as she was mentioned multiple times in worry and then after that it was like she was forgotten. That is going to have consequences I am sure.
Overall, a very nice sequel to the other two and well worth the read.

It has strong characters going in and they are developed in a consistent, understandable fashion. The world he plays in is well thought out and makes the reader yearn to take part as well. The path chosen by the main character is compelling and makes you want to see where the story goes. The only thing I would comment negatively on is that the self depreciation the main character does at times seem contrived. I would recommend this for those with a great fascination with living extraordinary lives and to those who have a passing knowledge of online gaming.
Brent Roth's books continue to amaze me. The characters are well developed and absolutely believable, with Sigurd being one of my favorite protagonists of all the books I've read this year, for he is unique in his own way.
PS: Sadly, Brent Roth's health seems to be deteriorating (source: brent's forum on amazon), which is the reason for the delay of Book 4. It also appears that the 3rd book didn't sell nearly as well as his others, so spread the word, for everyone who enjoys good books will love this series.
Really enjoy Brent's writing. This was definitely on par if not better than the previous 2. I really hope he is successful with these books as I'd love to read more and I feel like his talent should be enjoyed with more folks. I'd love to see more development with his Companions again and delve into that sticky world of conscious ai. Keep up the good work!
I really felt this one to be up there with books by top well known authors. I really like the hero. He keeps "winning" without it feeling like he easily steamrolls through all obstacles. He's determined about his immediate goals and not quite sure about what he wants. I blazed through these in a day and a half. Hurry up on revising the next 7... I'll keep reading these as long as you keep putting them out. Thanks for the contact info.
Another great read! Characters continue to be developed and the plot kept me up reading just to see how it goes. Brent has, imho, improved with each book!
Definitely a book to read if you like adventure, magic, and the sense of gameplay. But please start with his first book.
If you are trully reading it, than thank you. By the end of the second book i was a lil worried that it will turn into some really black and dark, but i am assured that it just keeps the line that you have set before. It was really enjoyable and cousef me couple of sleepless nights, becouse couldnt put it down. You are awesome. Thanks
I really enjoyed this book a lot! When Sigurd was running through the woods with his troops singing military cadence I couldn't help but laugh for a good few minutes. I guess I'd really like to see a more in-depth view of his real life to get a broader picture of how he lives and maintains his hardcore gamer lifestyle.
I recommend this series to anyone and everyone. It doesn't take a gamer to appreciate this seeing as how it isn't a book that dwells on the fact that it is a game he is playing but a separate reality in which he is living. I admire Brent's writing style a d appreciate how it gets better the more he writes. Keep it up man!
Still engaging and well paced with great plot. This third in the series continues to delight, avoiding the pitfalls of overpowering his lead and with plenty of twists it leaves you wanting more. The broader character arcs add depth and open up possibilities. Can't wait for the next one
Love the way the story is developing , do wonder if he will get more dire wolf pups I know I would, 8 to 11 weeks is way too long to get the next book hope it is sooner
One of the best series I've read of this genre. Give it a shot, it won't disappoint. It basically has all the good points of world building in the game, and not focusing on the real world aspect so far.
The series continues to be one of my favourite in this genre. But should have more action and less philosophical thinking. The last chapters were incredible, I really enjoyed them! Can't wait for the 4th book.
Good one! Interesting part of the series. Glad that Emily and Valerie were more prominent and stage was set for Sigurd to reveal the relic to Valerie. Wondering what will happen with Katherine... Anyway interesting series but I think it still needs some work.

The best of the bunch so far! The action, intrigue and sooo many open ended possibilities for future volumes! I love the evolving AI aspects that seem to be coming about in this book. Can't wait to see what happens next!
Love how passionately the writer brings this world to life. Every page I'm lost in a world of RPG and Human issues how they connect and collide. I look forward to more
This has turned out to be a great series. It puts to shame a lot of the other Austin this genre. Time to step up your game boys. Ready looking forward to where he takes this .
