The Dragons of Eternity #3

For the Heart of Dragons

Rate this book
Disconnection is a very serious issue for dragons that can leave them stuck in one form or another, but it's a condition that usually comes on slowly and rarely catches anyone by surprise. No one knows this better the Kara Rose, Eternity's leading specialist in the treatment of this condition. So when the head of Eternity demands her presence for an emergency, she can't imagine what he could want. She is, after all, only a therapist.
As a top mage with Eternity, Noah Dove has worked with dragons for most of his life, so he is used to their odd quirks and physical needs. When a dark beauty shows up to disrupt the king's celebrations, he agrees to go with her to keep the peace. When Noah is unable to protect the woman from the group killing dragons, he's left with her last request—to save her dragon. It would normally be an impossible task, but with a bit of magic and some help from the dragon, Noah forms the one thing that can transfer a dragon from one person to another—a Heart Stone.
Now the dragon is loose and out of control… and the only person who can help is Kara. With Noah's consciousness locked away beyond her reach, she must somehow find a way to soothe the dragon and connect two halves that were never a whole. The task is daunting and will push her knowledge—and personal boundaries—to their limit and beyond.

I didn't care for this one as much as the first two books. The romance was largely ignored in favor of showcasing Byrd as what a dragon is like without the human influence.

For one thing, the author never explained how Byrd was male with Noah, but had spent centuries as the dragon half of the female Raven. I'm willing to accept gender fluidity but the author needs to explain it. It made little sense to me that not a single character in the book questioned the gender flip, when it was glaringly obvious to the reader.

We get a lot of Byrd's instinctual mating thoughts about Kara but little from Noah except that he likes her. I needed more from Noah the man's attraction to and connection with her. There just wasn't enough romance, again because Byrd and his every dragon thought or action dominated much of the story. Honestly, Noah the high level mage was more interesting to me and I wish we had seen a lot more from his part of the duo.

I've already downloaded the next book in the series to read. I still like the series as a whole and plan to finish it. I feel like the author simply missed the mark with this installment trying to tell a part of the dragon story that didn't really need to be told nor added much to the series plot.

Didn’t enjoy this one anywhere near as much as he first couple. Didn’t like the whole Byrd as a completely separate entity to Noah (and therefore supposedly Raven too one presumes) In the other books the dragon half was driven by instinct but the operative point is dragon HALF. Thre was also a human half ie 2 halves making up the whole. In this one Byrd is a dragon who gets placed in Noah. They are two completely separate individuals– and it didn’t even make sense given how Byrd is a male driven by instinct etc to brood and select a mate yet apparently not while in Raven. I also found it off putting that Kara, a supposedly professional therapist mated with her patient, even more so as it was the weirdly childlike Byrd that she bonded with more that the more complex man. There was no sense of connection or relationship with poor Noah who just seems to be along for the ride.

Duuuude, the story picked up last time, but this time the romance was almost secondary to me! I'm left trying to figure out who is trying to hurt the dragons. We know there are traitors, but who are these mystery people???? Ok I need book 4 now. TBC...

Not a great ending

Good book but seemed incomplete. Not a great ending. Just leaves you wondering what happens but this was the last on the series.

I was a little surprised with this one. I was left with a lot of questions. Cliffhanger ending but glad I have the next one ready.

This book moved me and I can see the progress in the writing from the author being more refined. I felt for poor Byrd. If you can move a person then it's a great book. I highly recomend.

My Thoughts:

Earlier this year, Julie Wetzel took hold and shook some bookish sense into me. A self-proclaimed hater of dragons, I didn't expect to enjoy this new series near as much as I did. From the very first novella, my entire world exploded and now? I can't get enough of Wetzel's reptilian behemoths. Each and every novel in this series continues to blow me away.

But did For the Heart of Dragons live up to its' predecessors?

Heck yes. And then some.

I would go so far as to say that Noah may be my favorite dragon yet! Much like the previous stories, Heart follows the stories of an unsuspecting dragon thrown into peril like none other. In true Wetzel fashion, Heart did not disappoint. I was so enthralled in Noah's story. Unlike some of our other protagonists, Noah is well-versed in the world of Eternity, but never did he imagine he himself would become a dragon. Dragon-Psychiatrist Kara has never seen a case as bad as Noah, but if anyone can crack his scaly exterior, it's here. Can they unravel the mystery behind Noah's condition in time? With the mysteries of Eternity quickly expanding with each novel, can they solve the crimes before Eternity falls?

One of my favorite parts about Heart was that it was truly a deep novel with a lot of feels, but Wetzel was able to add in a lot of surface level humor that made this an extremely quick read with great pacing. With her world fully developed, we aren't bogged down by rules and logistics, allowing the reader to fully immerse themselves in the beautiful world she has created.

The setting and world that Wetzel has crafted with this series is incredible. From ancient times to modern day, the world of Dragons and their human shifters is definitely unique and memorable. Much like other worlds with their feet in our realm, Wetzel has done a perfect job of altering the fabric of reality to let the fantasy stream through into our own world. Wetzel is able to better tell her story and make it enjoyable to even the most casual of readers. A true testament to the talent of her writing, Wetzel has far surpassed my expectations for the genre!

I have no doubt that Wetzel will continue to exceed my every expectation and confirm my beliefs that my views on high fantasy are changing with each passing installment of this series. Let that be a lesson to all hesitant readers: one great series can, indeed, make a difference!

With all of this being said, it should come as absolutely no surprise that I am granting For the Heart of Dragons a well-deserved 5-star review! Julie Wetzel has yet to disappoint me, and I can't wait to see what comes next. I highly recommend this read to all lovers of high fantasy, paranormal, and romance novels, though be advised of the novels adult content, violence, and language. Don't miss out, add this to your TBR today!

This was very peculiar for a fantasy romance.

As stated in the description, the hero had split into two disconnected individuals in the same body: the beastly dragon and the human Noah.

What happens is that the dragon takes over the body completely and gets most of the face time with Kara (who completely functions in her human form 99% of the time) and the dragon communicates with her in baby talk. The human Noah spends most of his time in the back of the dragon's mind, just along for the ride and trying to get the dragon to listen to him. He gets to speak to the heroine for maybe a few minutes total, and only insignificant small talk.

Then a crisis happens and suddenly the heroine decides she will mate with the dragon because he is "cute and sweet". This disturbs me on a primal level, as she is essentially a person taking a baby-talking animalistic creature for her mate.

And then the book suddenly ends. They never finished fully resolving Noah's problem; Noah and Kara never actually get to know each other or spend much time together.

And then you realize that the book somehow started out introducing Noah as the hero with all sorts of issues, then morphed into a weird-ass relationship between the baby-talking dragon and Kara, then culminated by ending abruptly as soon as they decided to mate, considering its job done.

Ugh. Even the cuteness of little dancing dragon could not save this.

*I was provided a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.

For the Heart of Dragons tell the story of Noah, Byrd and Kara. Noah is a Mage with Eternity and Kara is a therapist with a very specialized field of study. Kara is called in to help Noah after atraumatic incident leaves him bonded to Byrd. We see the struggle and disconnect between Noah and Byrd from the first moment he meets Raven, the ancient that Byrd is originally bound to. Noah sees an attraction to Raven and he is exploring this when tragedy happens. Once he and Byrd are bonded- they have a lot of issues getting used to one another so enters Kara.
Kara is confused as to her role with Noah until she meets Byrd, and she soon learns she will have her hands full!
I enjoyed reading this addition to the series. I feel that we are seeing the build up of the "mole" story and I can't wait to see where this all leads to! Daniel will certainly have his hands full!
I would have liked to see some more growth between Kara and Noah. I had to make a lot of connections myself to the story instead of getting to see the growth between them naturally through the story. This doesn't detract from the tale, it only shortened the read.
I am looking forward to continuing the series!

I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

Noah is one of Eternity's top human mages. He agrees to accompany Raven and her dragon to mitigate any problems with the male dragons. Noah and Raven do not foresee the tragedy about to befall them, leaving Noah with an uncontrollable dragon and a heart stone. Kara is the top therapist for dragon disassociation therapy issues. This lands Noah into her capable hands. Time is running out for the dragon of Eternity and Noah may hold more information to solving who is removing their dragons.

Another wonderful tale in the Dragons of Eternity series. This can be read as a stand alone story, but there is an overarching story of danger and betrayal through the books. I waited for this one and I'll wait for the next.

It was ok. This book didn't quite capture me as much as the other two did. Things were a little rushed. I didn't like that for such an old dragon it spoke in baby talk. Expected a little more from such an ancient dragon.

This most recent book in the Dragons of Eternity series doesn't fail to deliver. They remind me so much of Anne McCaffery's Pern series with different characters (and sometimes different timelines) being highlighted. Yet again Julie has managed to find a new twist on Dragon Lore to throw in there and it certainly kept me turning the pages. A great addition to the collection and I can't wait until it comes out in paperback to add to my "actual" shelves too! V""V

**Note would be considered a "clean" romance - with it being an NA title people expecting different should check out the rating system on the Crimson Tree publishing page.

Oh my

I am Happy to say I got caught up in For the Heart of Dragons from the first chapter. As with each of these stories. Julie wetzel has a knack for drawing you into the characters and their lives and loves. Word of warning not a good idea to start any of these books late at night ,because you will find it difficult to put it down once you start . I am Looking forward to reading the next one.

Another amazing story in this series and the third book and it did not disappoint. I do not want to give anything away because honestly you just need to read it.

I will say this, it's got magic, mystery, unexpected love, and humor. If you have not read this series you are missing out!!!

It was a good book I just did not like how she falls in love with Byrd but not Noah himself. I also did not like when they both got angry at Noah because he was thinking of memories. The series does not seem to come to a conclusion so I am assuming there will be another book maybe one about Daniel.

This was another awesome installment in the series. I loved the relationship/ connection between the black dragon and Kara. I loved that this boll focused on having an emotional connection instead of a physical one. Can't wait to read the next one!

Of all of the books in this series, I think this was my least favorite. I still enjoyed it but the romance just didn't work as well for me. I got that Byrd, Noah's dragon loved Kara, but Noah's part in the romance felt a little rushed.
