What this series really needs is a Kuroneko: When They Cry spin-off in which the MC gets repeatedly murdered by the different girls in alternate timelines.

Oreimo: Kuroneko is the conclusion of the fan favorite spin-off story of Ruri Gokou also known as Kuroneko in a volume that mostly follows the anime. Mostly, I can’t review the final volume without spoiling the main anime and the manga. So, in short, if you were disappointed in the second season of Oreimo like most people were then this manga offers an alternative ending that was written by the series creator himself Tsukasa Fushimi. Of course, the ending itself is not canon at all and I don’t see him making it so but still after the awful ending that was Oreimo this alternative ending was nice regardless of it being canon or not and as far as I am the concern this is the true ending. Now we head to spoilers in short buy it if you hated the ending of Oreimo.

At the end of Oreimo, the series protagonist Kyosuke Kousaka rejects four confessions to get with his younger sister for three months until they break it off and go back to being regular siblings. In an ending that followed the original light novels. This was, of course, a bad for a number of reasons. Like the incest angle which was pretty much used as a running gag in series came to life, in a twist that the series was ruined by that had some fan reactions go as far as burning their collections. My personal disdain for the original ending was a number of things for one they set up Kuroneko and Kyosuke up for no reason other than it being the catalyst to set up Kirino and Kyousuke and the second thing is they didn’t even commit to their own decision of alright they ended up in an incestuous relationship. Like the author knew it was a bad idea and he did it anyway and he thought man this is weird and have them break up and go back to the status quo like what the hell might as well fully commit at the point of no return. Now we go to the Manga.
The Manga follows most of the beats of the second season although they add more details to Kyousuke's summer romance with Kuroneko that the anime glanced through. These extra fleshed out scenes are fitting towards the show and characters. Like in the anime it shows them swimming in a pool in the manga it explains that well Kuroneko can’t swim and Kyosuke was teaching her so they can go to the beach with her and her siblings. This Manga series has also been more fan service friendly than the anime. Which my stance is I can take it or leave it I don’t have a problem with it or without it. But with that, you get some new spicy scenes that were not as bad as other volumes but are still here regardless if that’s not your thing fair warning. Now we get to the biggest divergent of the manga from the light novels and the anime and that is when they confront Ruri in the hot springs and when Ruri tells them her master plan that it was all a ploy to get Kirino to confess her true feelings about her brother it ends with Kyosuke telling her to wait for her and we get the epilogue 10 years later we see a pregnant Ruri who married Kyosuke and had two other kids with her throw a reunion party and most characters from Oreimo are there with a heartwarming epilogue that showed a now change Kuroneko who dropped the black cat persona. This ending was great it’s the original ending they should have gone for but didn’t it redeems the Oreimo series those last three OVA ending specials were just a punch to the gut. Ending the series like, up until that point I had thoroughly enjoyed as a series about Otaku culture and sibling bonds (no not incest). This alternative conclusion provides a better ending for Oreimo, One that fits the series more. It redeems the series from being one of the worst endings to one that makes you wish that they can make another manga series about the adult life of Kyosuke and Ruri. Definitely, a worthwhile series to check out this final chapter was the ending the fans deserved but not the one they got. I hope that they make a small short about it showing an alternative take A1 Pictures make it happen. But regardless I consider this Manga an absolute win while it may not be canon to the official story and some fans might take issue with that it is still better than nothing and most series don’t get that alternative ending and at the end of the day what more can you ask for?

My rating is for the entire manga series and is meant to convey that Kuroneko as a series is inferior to Oreimo as a series. I'd give Oreimo a 4.4 rating and Kuroneko a 3.1 rating. The art is not as good nor is the story.

Several pages were torn out if my copy so I have no idea what happened. It was like blah blah blah I’m angry and them all of a sudden she’s pregnant?

Well I guess that’s realistic to life.

I loved the Oreimo anime series, and the Kuroneko character in particular. This Kuroneko manga spinoff series provides (for me) a satisfying ending. (There are alternate endings out there that are different.)
