In this intoxicating Carpathian novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan, a woman falls prey to the seductive allure of the past—and a vampire warrior’s intoxicating embrace...

The moment Charlotte Vintage walks into his club, Tariq Asenguard’s blood is set on fire. The ancient Carpathian had given up hope of finding his lifemate, but now he will do anything to make Charlotte his own. What Tariq doesn’t know is that Charlotte is using herself and her best friend as bait—to try to draw out the bloodthirsty killers who have already murdered Charlotte’s brother and mentor.

Charlotte is familiar with Tariq. Not only is he one of the richest and most eligible bachelors in the city, but he’s also a renowned collector of old carousel horses, which Charlotte restores. **Some Spoilers**

I am such a huge Christine Feehan fan-girl and I have been one since I picked up Dark Prince back 2012. I fell madly in love with her Carpathian world and the amazing couples she writes about. There is just something so beautiful about her lifemates and their all consuming love. I am just in awe of the fact that this is book 30 and my love for this series has done nothing but grow. I eagerly read every word she prints and wait with total impatience for the next new release.

I don’t need a submissive woman, Charlotte; I need a warrior. A woman walking beside me. Fighting beside me. Standing in front of those children with me. A woman unafraid to listen to whatever Emeline or Liv needs to say, to hear them and not curl into a protective ball when the monstrous truth of what happened to them comes out. I know that woman is you.”-Tariq

Dark Carousel was an awesome read. I enjoyed every minute of Tariq and Charlie's journey. Charlie was sassy, smart, and brave. She wasn't a warrior woman but she wasn't a coward either. She was normal she would fight to protect the ones she loves. She was relatable and real. Tariq was all protective alpha like all Carpathian men but he was a lot more modern. He wanted a partner to fight by his side not a someone to obey his every word. Tariq was sweet and could very playful, but just as bad-ass as all the other heroes in this series.

“I totally am a slut. I couldn’t help myself. He’s, like, off-the-charts good, and I’m not even exaggerating.” The aroma of coffee, usually something she loved, made her slightly nauseous. She pressed a hand to her stomach to quiet its churning. “What’s a slut?” Lourdes asked, clearly paying close attention. “Your auntie,” Genevieve answered. “Her picture is beside the word in the dictionary.”-Charlie, Lourdes, and Genevieve

I loved Tariq and Charlie together. They had the insta-love that most couples in this series have because hello soulmates, but this book didn't have as much sex in it as some of the others. Which I liked. It gave us more plot, relationship and character development. But don't worry there was still plenty of passion in this book. I really enjoyed the children in the story. The sweet little insta-family Tariq and Charlie had going on reminded me of Sara and Falcon.

“We might all be a bit broken, honey, but together we’re very strong and we’ll grow stronger as we get to know one another. We can help one another get through this. And we will get through it.”-Charlie

OMG I freaked out over the Val and Liv thing. So looking forward to that story! I also really liked getting a glimpse of who Siv, Dragomir, and Nicu are and can't wait for their books. I am also looking forward to the triplets Tomas, Lojos, and Mataias getting their stories too. But before they all get their's, I really want Gary Jansen and Emeline to get their books. I hope Gary's is first because I love him so damn much that I can't take the wait anymore. I also think I know who his lifemate is going to be. I think we met her in this book. I think she is Genevieve, Charlies best friend. Because Gary was sent to Paris in the last book told that was were his lifemate was and Genevieve is from Paris. She also tells Charlie in this book that she feels she needs to go back to Paris. Genevieve says “It’s weird, but I have this strong desire to go back to Paris, as if I’ve forgotten something there. Something important.” PLEASE LET IT BE GARY!!! Just sayin'!!! But Emeline needs her book too. She has suffered enough and needs some peace and healing! Overall a great addition to one of my favorite series. I can't wait to see what CF will write next!

“No, sielamet. I want to eat you alive. The taste of you is forever on my tongue. The feel of you surrounding my cock, tight and hot, your skin, softer than anything I’ve ever felt, that wild hair, your mouth, all of you is branded into my mind, my bones, wrapped around my heart. You are not safe from me and you never will be, but you’ll like the way you aren’t safe. I can promise you that much.”-Tariq

Dark Carousel by Christine Feehan is the 30th book in her Dark Series and it's totally unforgettable!!!!
 photo xpectd_zpsotqehjb0.gif
I cannot believe how this series has gone downhill - I am totally sad that this has happened, but the last 3 or 4 books have just not done it for me. Was I hoping that this book would be beyond awesome????

It's just that when a new book appears, I keep hoping that this will be the AWESOME one.

So now we have the American Carpathians........OMG ....please get me back to the Carpathians in Europe!!!!!

I couldn't give a "toss" about the hero, Tariq Asenguard and his pals and his club.....and the heroine... Charlotte Vintage - well, I did like her name...but the whole carousel thing...was just soooooooooooooooo boring..........
 photo tumblr_n9ofwem9hG1tp5rl9o1_500_zpsaxlvodvo.gif
I did like seeing the characters from previous books...but there wasn't enough of my favourite ones!!!

And all those sex scenes........repetitive, repetitive......boring....boring...boring!!!!!

I am totally invested in this series, so I am going to hold my breath in the hope that the next one will be more exciting.

I don’t know that I will ever tire of this series! I love my Carpathian males!!! The whole idea of lifemates is something I love too! My only complaint about this book was the constant repetition. I’ve never noticed that about Christine Feehan’s writing before but I’m definitely more conscious of it now.

As far as the story line goes though, I think it’s awesome how she is introducing more Carpathian men into the world... and now we are getting younger children involved which I think will make for great future books when they grow up!

This was book 30-ish and I am falling right back into the spell of my sexy alpha males!! Now I just need to find my own!😂

Summary
Charlotte Vintage and her best friend Gabrielle, are on the run. They live in hiding and secret from a dangerous man. Charlotte's brother and mentor were murdered, as well as Gabrielle's grandmother. Charlotte has unique abilities, and when she receives a vision of three men that are tracking their movements, Charlotte and Gabrielle decided to go on the defensive. They are tired of running and hiding and being afraid and never feeling safe. They head to a dance club, hoping to have some relaxation and fun and needing to do more than live away in secret. Tariq Asengard, is a ancient Carpathian. He runs a most popular dancing club, and is well known in society's circles. When he senses his lifemate close by, seeks her out and saves her and brings her and her friend to his highly guarded estate. Charlotte has never felt a connection like she does to Tariq, a man of mystery and power but is gentle and patient with her and encourages her gifts. But there is a threat, a dangerous master vampire who tortures, rapes and kills innocent women and children. Children that are under Tariq and Charlotte's protection...
Plot and Story Line
Dark Carousel is the 30th installment, in the Carpathian Series and man I can't believe we are on #30. Kinda crazy how many books are in this series and the way it has developed. The one aspect I love the most is the world building. And Feehan keeps you intrigued more and more. Now I admit I wasn't sure what to expect from this one. The past two heroes in this series, haven't exactly been my favorites at all, and I was curious to see what she would do with Tariq. But thankfully, he turned out to be good!! I was very delightfully surprised with this one. Tariq is a lot more tamer than most of the more recent heroes in the series. He is alpha male, very, but at the same time he isn't stuck in the old ages either. He doesn't try to force or demean Charlotte. He encourages her gifts and even wants her to learn how to fight vampires just in case its needed. We have a major villain in play here. And man he is one of the worst I have seen since I stumbled across this series. Tariq has adopted five children that he rescued from a master vampire who was doing experiments trying to sire his own children. Four girls and one boy. The girls had the worst of it and two of them are still suffering from intense forms of PTSD. Charlotte doesn't know if she can be a good mother or even friend to these children who need a therapist or someone capable of seeing to their needs. All of them are living a half life. Not fully in the human world yet not fully in the carpathian one either. The romance that develops between Tariq and Charlotte was different and had some upsides and downsides. First, it felt a bit rushed in my opinion even for a Feehan romance TOO fast. I like to see chemistry build up and a relationship grow, not happen in one night!! It's probably the one factor I would change about this story. Everything else I had a blast with, but their romance just happened to quickly to be believable. But man I loved the way Tariq does treat Charlotte. Like a partner, he puts her opinion above almost everything else unless she is in danger.
I am not going to tell you I don't have a dominant personality, because I do. That said, I don't want a submissive woman. I want an intelligent woman thinking for herself. I want a strong woman to help me figure out what to do with enormous problems I have facing me. Do I make decisions fast? Yes. Absolutely. I want my woman to be able to do the same. You're that woman. Will it always be easy? We have five children to look out for. Five. Two are already teens. All of them are traumatize. We have Fridrick and his bosses with their army coming after Emline, Genevieve and you. We have the threat of the three men following you from Paris. I don't need a submissive woman, Charlotte. I need a warrior. A woman walking beside me. Fighting beside me. Standing in front of those children beside me. I know that woman is you

But Charlotte although capable and strong-willed, is understanding of Tariq's nature, and knows when to put her pride aside and let him lead especially when its a dangerous situation.
I'm savoring every moment with you. Committing it to memory. The start of us. The beginning. I do not want to miss one single second with you

I did like how well these two complimented each other. The added factor of traumatized children was different and very emotionally driven. I did like the other Carpathian's that work with Tariq----especially the really ancient ones, it will be interesting to see how Feehan does their stories. I did adore how his friends are so protective of the children, and even though they don't feel emotion---the children bring out echoes of emotion for them. Definitely quite a few tear jerking moments in this one. And we got a hint of a future romance between one of the children Liv and Tariq's friend Val. But since she is only ten in this story----it will be a while before we get their book but I am curious to see if we will see hints of their relationship over the next few installments. Now as for the danger aspects of the story----well written in every form, intriguing and intense!!
The Cover
One of the best covers I have seen in this series ever!!! Just gorgeous and dramatic and I love it!! The Carousel theme is just perfect especially with the fire like effect.
Overall View
Dark Carousel is a story of romance, passion, and danger!!! We see growth, strength and courage develop and seeing a couple work together to bring down a dangerous villain to protect innocents----a nail-biting suspenseful romance that keeps you on the edge!!!

It has literally been years since my first introduction into the world of the Carpathians,Dark Prince,book#1 in this sometimes amazing series was my first introduction into the world of pnr and I have not looked back since. It seems unreal that a series can last for 30 books and still there are more tales to tell from the pen of Christine Feehan.Dark Carosel tells the tale of Tarik and Charlotte and a coterie of assorted players who I am sure will have a book down the line. One that intrigues me is Liv and Val,now that one came out of nowhere but I sorta had the feeling.
What I love about these books are the instalove/lifemate/bonding,once the hero meets his lifemate,no other will do and vice versa .This book was no exception, this couple just worked together and their chemistry was amazing.A solid read for me.Still waiting on Gary's book,is his lifemate,Genevieve?

Good golly is this really book 30? That's an awfully long time to keep a series going so clearly there are a plethora of readers out there who adore this authors work. Always imaginative and her sex scenes are certainly meant to set the pages on fire and yet I'm increasingly seeing reviews that are less than enamoured. I admit there has sometimes been rhetoric that felt repetitive and situations that seemed to follow a pre set template but I'm really enjoying this newer direction that the author is exploring.
If you read Dark Crime then you will be delighted to catch up with Tariq and the damaged females he helped rescue. It's a story arc that I'd almost forgotten but I'm so pleased the author has returned to it. There's definitely a more contemporary feel to this story which brings a fresh approach. Tariq is a hunter but he has perfected his civilised veneer and actually finds himself caring for the humans around him and his extended family . Charlotte is brave and determined to stop hiding and take on whoever is murdering those she cares for but she is entering a world she had no idea existed. The Carpathians search amongst humans with psychic gifts for their Lifemates but the Vampires have a completely different reason and it's not pleasant at all!
There's a huge difference between a male who dominates his woman and one who abuses her and I think the author seemed to get the balance right here. Whilst I didn't buy the instant attraction/lust if honest (first night? Really? No build up?) I cannot fault that Tariq was only domineering when it came to Charlottes safety oh and bedroom antics of course ! Finally a Carpathian who realises he needs a partner and that a modern woman would settle for nothing less . Now add in quite a large supporting cast and I'm sorry my head was reeling as apart from one or two I constantly had to remember which Carpathian was which ! Luckily not all were new and the human children really tugged at me heartstrings but it was the big bad that made this story. I couldn't understand the title initially and how it would connect to the storyline but bam , it really was very pertinent indeed. As for their enemies well nasty just doesn't seem to cover it and in the midst of all this is a puppet master like no other ! Yes stand by for a Vampire who thinks way outside the box, looks ahead and sets the most insidious traps.

Wow! Book 30. You'd think I'd get a life ;)

Honestly it was entertaining. I definitely need to find a copy of the short story 'Dark Crime' where the hero was introduced. There's something comforting about jumping back into a 'verse that you are very familiar with. There are some new characters introduced who are interesting and Feehan is continuing with the Malinov brothers and their evil plot (I wondered what she'd do once Xavier was defeated).

The hero was somewhat progressive for a Carpathian. I sort of felt like the reader was being hit over-the-head with the character's thoughts on gender roles and dominant Carpathian male attitudes. It felt like an answer to complaints I've seen by readers, but was bit too obvious for my tastes.

Overall it was enjoyable. Not my favorite Dark book but also not my least favorite. I'll keep reading for a while, I'm sure.

CHRISTINE FEEHAN IS BACK!! WOW!! Did she make a splash of a return. I feel like an old lost friend has been found and returned to me. I have been reading Christine's books since 1998 and for the past 1 1/2 I felt disappointed in her books. But what a come back she has made. Dark Carousel is exciting, the battles with Vadim Malinov whom fans that have read all 30 books in the Dark Series will know is using Xavier's old techniques with a new an modern twist to kill all Carpathian's and Humans alike. Vadim is almost as gruesome in his torture as Xavier was. There are similarities from prior books Dark Curse and Dark Slayer and a little bit of Dark Legend. These similarities have been modernized and expanded on. They have a whole new twist to them. The Carpathian World has grown bigger an moved into the 21st century. We get to meet new Ancient Carpathians and the new world order of Human Hunters. The Morrison center is back in play. The repeated sex scenes have been greatly reduced, so no one can complain about that. Dark Carousel is all about the story and the romance between two wonderful lead characters Tariq Asenguard who is an ancient Carpathian Hunter and Charlotte Vintage who restores old paintings and carousels. Tariq is everything you hope for an more in a Carpathian Hunter. He is all Alpha Male. Long time fans have been waiting for his story for years and they wont be disappointed in him. Oh I want a Tariq of my own!! I just love him and Charlotte is a brave and intelligent human with psychic abilities her an Tariq are perfect Lifemates and grew to have a beautiful romance and love for one another, build on mutual respect and equal partnership. I love Charlotte too. I guess the only problem I had with the story was the abuse of children, but I can't see how the story would not have been as strong and compelling if that awfulness hadn't accrued. The children are from the novella Dark Crime. In Dark Carousel we learn of there plight when they were captured by Vampires in Dark Crime. But somehow CF was able to tell there story without too much gory details. We have to use our imagination to figure out how bad they had been scared and tortured by Vadim and his puppets. Christine Feehan has really UPPED HER GAME!! She is the Queen on Paranormal Romance and has returned with her old style of writing but at the same time bringing the Carpathian World into the 21st Century.
I have been one of her critics of her past few books, but now I eat my words. I hope she stays on this path!! and I can't wait for the next Dark Book.

BRAVO CHRISTINE FEEHAN!!! VERY WELL DONE!!

First, I have not read any of the Carpathian series before, however I am HUGE fan of the Game series and I wanted to read this book. I am now a huge fan of both of these and cannot wait to catch up with all of the Carpathian books now.

This story is Tariq and Charlotte's story, while including Genevieve and Emmeline, Danny, Amelia, Liv, Bella and Lourdes, as well as other Carpathian hunters.

Genevieve, Charlotte and Lourdes all have gifts and are wanted by one master vampire, Vadim. Charlotte's gift is that she can touch an item and see the history of that item. When Charlotte and Genevieve go to Tariq's club his world goes from gray to colorful, he has her scent now her just needs to find her. The problem is when he does find her she and her friend are walking right into a trap. Not knowing who Tariq is, other than the club owner, not only does Charlotte try to save and protect Genevieve but she also try to protect Tariq. While Fredrik is trying to call them to him Tariq is calling in reinforcements and while he saves them from being kidnapped for one night Tariq knows that it isn't over. He convinces them to come stay at his house where they will be protected, at least for this one night.

Because she knows Tariq loves carousel horses from his correspondence with her boss she tells him where Lourdes is so his colleagues can go get her and Grace when Genevieve says she wants to go, that she is too tired and just wants one night of peace.

It's amazing what one night can lead to and Charlotte finds out for herself what an amazing man Tariq can be and also how little she knows/knew about the dangers they really face.

This is for fans of dark paranormal who love the thriller aspect in a romance story. It is a complicated storyline that grows more so as time goes on. It is amazingly creative with twists and turns no one could see coming.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This has all the feels….

“You do realize it is impossible not to fall in love with you.”

I LOVE this series. That is no secret, at all. How can I continue to stalk and pounce on a series that is now in its thirtieth instalment? Well, Charlotte and Tariq—and all the characters in this story—are the biggest reason. This author has many different series and what you find in common with them all is a flair for great story-telling and compelling and unique characters. Each Dark story has a recurring theme couched in (of course) darkness, paranormal, but above all else, in loyalty and family. Unfailingly, there is treachery and betrayal as the conflicts they face are not always clear but unfailingly deadly. This outing is no exception…

Charlotte and Tariq have a common interest in the beautiful, antique carousels that she restores and he collects. It sounds so simple but it is anything but as Charlotte and her small family are fighting an enemy with an unknown agenda. As Tariq swoops in to the rescue, their families begin to meld together in a heart-pounding journey of love and survival.

“She’d felt loved and protected. Safe with him. She’d trusted him with her body. Not just her body, she had to admit, but with her soul and maybe even her heart.”

I should have been warned I needed extra bubble-wrap for my heart! The courtship between Charlotte and Tariq alternated between sweet and sultry but, at all times, they are surrounded by… their children. Children who were sweet and innocent but continued to be plagued by horrific memories and enemies they all shared. I fell apart as Liv and Amelia, as all their stories were slowly revealed. What they endured, what they continued to endure had me a sodden mess more than once. Thank goodness for a whole host of secondary characters that surrounded them in love and strength. I’m not sure which character caught my heart the most as so many of them grabbed hold and would not let go.

This story was completely engrossing, with action and emotion to spare on each and every page. I’m already itching for the stories that are sure to come for the ancients as well as the children. I cannot wait! ~ Diane, 5 stars

Glad that I didn't get this book for a book review. This book is completely forgettable and I am not sure why I'm still reading this series. I love this author. I love Ms. Feehan and I just keep hoping her stories become new and exciting. Each time it isn't, I'm a little more disappointed. Don't get me wrong. This story is well edited and smooth. There is character development and the world she built is still fine. It is just the same story recycled with different names.

How many times do I need to walk through with a female being buried underground for the first time? How many times will it take for me to remember the males can't see colour until their special woman finally shows up? The only good thing is the slow plodding moving along of how these physic women are tracked. Hopefully the next one in this series, it will be more exciting with something fresh and new.

Review may contain minor spoilers

Christine Feehan's Dark series is the first paranormal romance series I read and Dark Guardian is still one of my favourite romance novels. However, I haven't truly enjoyed a Dark series novel since Dark Possession which was book #18, I believe. Since then the series has gone downhill. The whole Dragonseeker saga and how great they are got a bit boring to be honest. They're great, I get it no need to go on and on about it. The Daratrazonoffs are a great bloodline but I don't have to hear how great they are all the time.

I suppose the only reason why I continue to read this series is because in every new book I hope for a mention of Lucian and Jaxon who are by far my favourite couple (even though I dislike her name immensely). Of course, my hoping has been largely in vain because even when novels are set I the mountain, the only Daratrazonoff ever really mentioned is Gregory who is a brute. I'd also like to see some of the other children mentioned other than Gregory and Savannah's daughters and Mikhail's son. I think it's important that readers get a chance to catch up with old favourites other than Mikhail and Gregory and those with some connection to the Dragonseeker bloodline.

Anyway Dark Carousel, I was definitely on the fence after Dark Promises (I had serious issues with Gary being converted and then instead of earning power and skill being handed it on a silver platter) but I chose to soldier on with Dark Carousel thinking okay, this is a different ARC of the series but alas I was not impressed.

Firstly, the heroine (Charlotte) and her best friend (Genevieve) go to a club looking to lure a pyscho murderer out when she has a young niece who has nobody else in the world to look after. They know and acknowledge this but still go. Why???? I am still trying to figure this out. Of course, they encounter a vampire and Tariq steps in to save her. Then BAM!!! Tariq's sending his friends to fetch her niece and they're all moving into his house. On the way there is this annoying seen where Tariq tells her how he found a homeless couple and gave them a place to live on the estate which I dislike because it almost seems as if he's, well not bragging but telling Charlotte to make himself look good. I always think authors should show what good people their protagonists are instead of telling the reader rather blatantly. There's also a mention of Tariq's love of carousel horses which I'm still scratching my head about because this guy supposedly had no emotions for the past few centuries. Add in a few orphans Tariq has adopted (3 girls and a boy, all psychic of course) and isn't Tariq just a paragon of virtue??

They get to the house and you'd think any responsible guardian's first priority would be to check on their niece but not Charlotte, oh no, this only occurs to her after round 1 of 'mindblowing' sex. After which, Tariq directs her to look out the window and she sees her niece sleeping soundly and they're right back to it. Did I mention the fact that Charlotte is a virgin? I don't have a problem with this per se but it seems to me that the majority of Feehan's heroines are. What's wrong with a 20+ year old women having had perfectly pleasant sex before meeting her lifemate? Does Feehan think it deducts from the romance?

To put it simply this book didn't do it for me. I'm really quite sorry at how this series has deteriorated as series will always be special to me since it introduced me to the genre but I think once the Xavier arc finished this series should have ended. After all, all good things must come to an end. (Maybe Feehan could focus more on Ghostwalkers or her new Rider series?) A solution to the fertility problems should have been found and we should have had one final novel with an ensemble cast to see how all the couples in the series (and their kids) are doing and that would have been that. But alas, the end does not seem to be nigh, already so many new books have been set up and we have another cartoonish villain to despise.

Full confession/disclosure...this is the 1st book I have read by Christine Feehan. I really enjoyed it, and I am looking forward to reading other books by her, but I have no idea what is the "norm" for this series and what would be a spoiler...so I am going to give my impressions of the book and not discuss plot, just to be sure I don't give anything away...

The writing: Really well constructed and wonderful. I was impressed with Feehan's writing style and genuinely enjoyed it.
The dialog: Was believable...which is impressive as it was a book about Carpathians, possessed carousel horses and vampires.
The pacing: I really liked how in depth this book was. In parts, it felt a little dense and it was a slow read in places, but I was ok with this as in order to understand what was happening, and the significance, I needed a detailed explanation. So, while it felt like it was a little slow in places, I feel this was necessary so the reader was able to follow the story. I appreciated that, instead of "dumbing down" the story, the author made the choice of making it a deeper read.

I recommend this book. It is not a "quick" read, but it is well worth it.

Tariq and Charlotte are lifemates which in the Carpathian world means that Tariq is safe from turning to the dark side like so many of his brethren have in the past. The vampires have discovered that psychic women are conducive to their plan to destroy the Carpathians and have set out to kidnap not only Charlotte but several others including children. It is up to Tariq and the other ancients to stop them.

I cannot believe this is book thirty in the series! Having read most of these books, I can honestly say Christine Feehan always manages to come up with a new plot twist to keep loyal fans reading. Which considering how many books there are in this series, this is quite impressive. And considering how many secondary females were introduced in this book, I see plenty of new books in the future!

About the book: Release Date August 2, 2016

Their shared passion opens Charlotte up to trusting him with her life and with the desire she can no longer control. But it also makes her vulnerable to a centuries-old curse that will unite her and Tariq in a war against the enemies of humans and Carpathians alike..

•••••••••••••

REVIEW: DARK CAROUSEL is the thirtieth installment in Christine Feehan’s contemporary, adult DARK CARPATHIAN paranormal, romance series. This is ancient warrior Tariq Asenguard, and carousel restorer Charlotte Vintage’s story line. DARK CAROUSEL can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Several of the characters including Maxim and Blaze introduced in DARK CRIME found in the anthology EDGE OF DARKNESS (July 2015) play secondary and supporting roles throughout the story.

NOTE: DARK CAROUSEL is a story with brutally, graphic violence and issues of rape and abuse against women and children.

SOME BACKGROUND: All Carpathian males must find their lifemates before they turn vampire or greet the dawn. Without a lifemate, the males no longer see in color, feel pain or experience emotions. A lifemate is the light to their dark. She is the keeper of his heart and the keeper of his soul. As the unmated Carpathian male ages, the darkness begins to envelope his soul.

Told from several third person points of view DARK CAROUSEL follows Charlotte Vintage as she endeavors to come to terms with the deaths of several family members and friends seemingly linked back to her visit to a psychic center in Paris, France. As Charlotte and her friend Genevieve return to America, they are being stalked by an unknown source, and find themselves at a nightclub run by Tariq Asenguard-an ancient Carpathian male who has yet to find the woman who holds the other half to his soul. What ensues is the awareness for Tariq when Charlotte’s voice returns his emotions and color, and the quick building romance/insta love between two people connected by the past. While Charlotte struggles with her attraction and need for Tariq, there is something more sinister working behind the scenes. A master vampire is on the hunt, and Charlotte is one of his intended victims.

Like all of Christine Feehan’s male leads, Tariq is over protective and alpha, but in saying this, he is not abusive, not arrogant, not controlling or verging on total domination like many of Christine’s recent male ‘heroes’-a term I use lightly. For an ancient Carpathian, Tariq is quite modern, and willing to accept that his mate is his partner in many aspects of their relationship but fighting vampires is not in her repertoire.

DARK CAROUSEL, like so many of the recent DARK stories, is a graphically violent tale of murder, rape, blood shed, and gore with disturbing scenes and brutal imagery. Christine Feehan’s vampires are evolving into a darker, more sinister species with the ability to think and act independently, where no one is off limits, and children and women are the latest targets as the vampires struggle for power and control.

The large ensemble cast of characters is numerous including the introduction of several new ancients we first met in Dark Promises, who are struggling to retain their honor, as well as the triplets Tomas, Lojos, and Matais. All of the psychic children introduced in Dark Crime are now wards of Tariq Asenquard, and like Sara and Falcon from Dark Dream, Tariq and Charlotte are now the foster parents for several psychic children who are featured throughout the story. One young child will be the saving grace for an ancient Carpathian (reminiscent of Skylar and Dimitri). Vadim Malinov is the Master vampire and, for newcomers to the series, and as a reminder, Tariq reveals some history about the Malinov’s and their battle with the Carpathian people.

Christine Feehan’s DARK CAROUSEL is a welcome return to her earlier writing style and story line presentation including the ongoing battle with the Malinov family, which has been missing for awhile, but the original characters we grew to love are absent and without representation. The Daratrazanoffs are mentioned for their healing abilities but have yet to make an appearance. The up-kick in graphic and brutal violence against women and children is still an issue-one that I don’t see coming to an end with the current direction of the series, and the ever-evolving vampires. The premise has plenty of action, fight scenes and sexual situations; the characters are an eclectic mix of humans, vampires, children and Carpathians; the romance is a quick build to lifemates and love.

For diehard fans of the series, many are aware that the characters are part of a ‘lost’ manuscript previously started by the author-the premise has somewhat changed from the recovered text.

5 Carpathian Stars

I had to take the day to think on how I wanted to go about reviewing this book.

First I absolutely love all things Carpathian. I just know that I am destined to be a life mate to a Carpathian Hunter. I had begun to give up on this until I read Dark Promises and decided if Grandma Trixie can find her life mate then so can I. I turned 49 today August 14, 2016......I think I can hold out. ;-)

Second I feel like Christine Feehan is taking us on a new adventure. In Dark Carousel we are back in America and we have a new cast of characters. I love it!! Plus we are finally seeing what's up with those pesky physic centers are all about, as well as why those master vampires are grouping together.

Third there were character names brought up from the distant past that I'm so interested in learning about. Such as Draven Dubrinsky, and the horrid Xavier and his father, and those slimy narcissistic Malinov brothers. I am totally loving where this series is headed again.

I will patiently wait for my Carpathian Male and the next in the Carpathian Saga......

I was a 12% when I realized I really needed to stop and read Dark Crime before continuing to read this book. Dark Crime is a prerequisite in my opinion to Dark Carousel because it follows the characters and the events that already took place.

The vampires are getting smarter and use technology and science to achieve their goals. I just wish there were a bit more action outside the bedroom in Feehan's books.

Christine Feehan is my fave author, so I'm definitely biased in my reviews. That being said, she wove such a beautiful tale that I couldn't put this book down. The revelations in this book were amazing. I am looking forward to the next installment. Can't get enough of my Carpathians.

As always another great installment to the thrilling and enchanting Carpathian World! The Dark Series just keeps getting better! I love how Ms. Feehan is keeping the series fresh and modern but still swirled with the old world Carpathian men we all know and love!

Sexy, powerful, collector of ancient carousel horses Tariq Asenguard is well known for his nightclubs all over the world in which he hopes to draw in his lifemate. He is dark, dangerous, and deadly but has never given up hope of finding her. He has also devoted his long life to battling the vampires that seek to destroy anything that is good in the world. Tariq is different from the other Carpathians, by embracing life among humans and realizing that his race has to learn to adapt because their enemies becoming more cunning by the day.
Charlotte Vintage is on the run and desperately trying to survive with enemies at every turn. When her brother is murdered she is left to raise her young niece. Charlie and her best friend are drawn back to the states and want nothing more than to find the enemies stalking them so they can have their lives back. Finding Tariq was more than she could ever hope for in life. For the first time she feels safe and that she has a home.
As Tariq's emotions are returned he can truly feel the fatherly love and devotion for the orphaned children in his care. He finally has his family and he will stop at nothing to see all the threats against them are gone. The same vampire that tortured his children in the past, are the same ones hunting his lifemate. He will do everything in his power to destroy the evil that is stalking his family.

Charlotte not only has the love of a lifetime, she has found the children of her heart. She wants nothing more than to cherish, love and help heal their tortured souls.
The vampires have grown even more powerful, vile, and cruel. They will stop at nothing to get their hands on Charlie and her children. The ancient hunters must come together to keep them safe. Things are changing for the Carpathian people. No one is safe. Not even humans, both men and women with psychic abilities are hunted. An ancient curse is seeking to destroy and fuel an evil the likes they have never seen. The future is ever changing and if they don't defeat this new threat the world will never be the same again.

I'm absolutely ecstatic and can barely stand the wait until we get to see one of the ancients from the monastery find his lifemate!! That will for sure be a sight to see!

Dark Carousel (Dark #30) by Christine Feehan Christine Feehan does an exception job keeping the Dark Series feeling fresh with the thirtieth book in the series, DARK CAROUSEL.  Ancient Carpathian Tariq Asenguard discovers his lifemate Charlotte Vintage and needs to protect her from the vampires that murdered her brother and mentor. This paranormal/urban fantasy is suitable for adult audiences.

Christine Feehan does an exceptional job of keeping the Dark series plot stimulating and strong.  I love how she ties together details.  DARK CAROUSEL is full of mystery and conspiracy.  I’ve always liked carousels, and I love the carousel connection between Charlotte and Tariq.  The curse was fascinating and relevant.  I thought the history behind carousels interesting.  I appreciate when I learn something new while reading.

The characters are very well developed.  Despite being old, Tariq is a little more open minded then some of the other Carpathian. I like Charlotte.  She has a powerful gift. She goes through a lot of changes in a short amount of time.  I love that Tariq and Charlotte wind up with an instant family.  They make good parents who are very protective and compassionate.  The children all have appealing personalities.  They went through awful circumstances.  I like the connection Val and Liv have.  I love the dragons and why they were created.

Vadim and company make intimidating opponents.  I thought it was thought-provoking how Tariq and Vadim’s association transpired.  He and his followers are extremely cunning.  I am interested in finding out where Christine Feehan takes us with her next story.  I am continually impressed by this series.

Wow! This is a hot, sexy Carpathian story…did I mention sexy? The story held me riveted to my Kindle, wondering just where the story would lead me next. I do have to mention that it is a rather dark story, mixed with fear, depression and horrible situations. It seemed different than the other books for those reasons, and I can’t stop deciding if I loved it for the darkness or am bothered by it. Even though it wove the design for new heroes and villains, it held true to its Carpathian roots. I loved it and can only imagine where it will go next.

This will not be a formal review. I feel compelled to share a few thoughts, and reactions, because Dark Carousel has moved me to do so. I purchased this book with a deep sense of sadness....fearing that this would be my last attempt at reading a Dark book. A series which will always hold a special place in my heart, yet one of which had become difficult for me to embrace over the course of a few of the latest installments.

I opened this, the 30th novel, expecting very little to be different...Carpathian male finds life mate. Sex, sex, sex. Sprinkle in a little conflict, and some plot. The End. That is what I had come to expect lately from this once incredible, genre busting series. Fast forward a few chapters in. Hero and heroine have sex almost immediately...and I was resigned that Dark Carousel would sadly be another carbon copy of the last. How wrong I was.

I wish that I could put accurately into words, all the phenomenal elements to this stunning work. I feel that it is a book readers must pick up, and experience for themselves. It seems as though Feehan has done what should be impossible...managing to make a staggering thirtieth installment in a series, feel as fresh, interesting, and dynamic as a first. I am a reader that thrives on character driven stories. Simply put, Tariq and Charlotte astounded me. In much the same way as some of the first, World building couples of this series had done in the beginning.

There was so much going on in this book. I literally could not put it down, and read it in one sitting. Few authors have the ability to pull me into a story so deeply, and completely as this, and to be honest...it hasn't happened with a Dark book in a very long time. The current story arc is deepened, and furthered. We learn new details, and nuances to the conversion process of a human to Carpathian. We meet new key players, while simultaneously learning vivid insights into previously introduced ones. These Carpathians are diverse, multi-faceted Hunters that are far from their Prince, and their people. The children are phenomenal, and splash the pages with color, much in the same way children vibrantly enrich life in reality. ALL must unite to survive, and there is a profound sense of family and solidarity that is achieved in this book among danger, intrigue, and utter evil.

I will be blunt. I am very picky with what I choose to read. I have been reading the Dark series since it began. Dark Carousel blew. me. away. Among reviews of this series being a "cash cow" due to its longevity, I found it my responsibility as a reader, and reviewer to personally set the record straight. A good series is a good series. Period. Sure there are some installments that far exceed others. This is one such book. Those who decide to forgo this novel simply because it is number three zero in the series...your choice, but you are sorely, sorely missing out. Ms. Feehan has once again, shown why legions of fans keep flocking back for more.

Been a while since I've visited the Caparthians and it's still very much an enjoyable read as we also see some of the main story arc moving along. As the series progresses I'm glad to see less of the defiant "I'm so kick arse I'm going to reject you even if it kills me" h and the "I'm the man and you must do as I say" H troupe, which can get very tiresome when they take up a third of the book space.

While the h in here is initially a bit frightened and resentful of the situation she's in, she was quick and smart enough to come on board and let the H lead, which to me is ever sensible given the life threatening situation. Our H is also the more evolved type, where he understands the need of the modern day female to be less of a doormat and tries to accommodate this when the situation allows. We are given less of this couple's page time but more on all the other things that are happening, which is fine by me as I'm really anxious to know what is going to happen.

Lately, there's more to the main storyline as well as more variety of characters joining this series. It's also taking into account the more complex modern world and the impact it can be on this ancient race. I cannot wait to read up on future installments and see how they're going to take down another of the evil brothers.

While I am very anxious to read about Val, I'm a bit annoyed with Emme for having so much page time for 2 of the books. I was initially very invested in this character as I also find her very courageous to go save the children (though to be honest, as she cannot even lift a knife running in, I seriously do not know what she thinks she can do to help but get in the way). I started getting v annoyed with her when the whole big secret of what's been done to her kept dragging out (this is probably a plot strategy, but I lost my patience as she ends up being ungrateful and very stupid to me). Anyhows, I just realized I skipped 2 books, one deliberately, the other I think I was halfway so I'll go back to that one and finish it.

REVIEW
In this story, we get Maksim' friend Tariq' story and when he smells his life mate inside his club all bets are off for this ancient warrior. Tariq and the other warriors know their life mates come in the form of human women with special abilities. Charlotte is a strong physic and she and her friend Genevieve have escaped Paris only to encounter even worse and the same beings that they escaped from.

Charlotte has heard of Tariq for his love of Carousel Horses as she worked with a restorer before Fredrik and his goons kill him and others.

Tariq has his hands full with children they rescued and they also are strong physics.

I loved this story we get so much action and seeing all the ancients who were thought to no longer be capable means we will get much more from the author.

I was gifted this book for my honest review.

Well .. what do you know This book revived my love for the dark books.

Tariq and Charlotte made a flaming hot couple and I absolutely loved the children. Some parts in the book were a little too brutal for my taste but overall the plot was really interesting so it all worked out.

I really liked the newly introduced characters especially Liv and Emmeline .. oh and Dragomir. I can hardly wait for Dragomir's book so fingers crossed here .. I'd love to see this specimen get a lifemate *would be a giggle-fest considering how uncivilized he is*

I'm hoping Gary and Genevieve's book is next *pretty obvious she's the one* because I'm really interested to see how those two would click together. I'm glad my enthusiasm is renewed .. I haven't felt that way since book 12.

This book was okay. While it wasn't great, it wasn't bad either. I am a dedicated Carpathian fan, and with so many books in a series, it stands to reason that not all of the books will be great.

I like that we are getting to see the ancient Carpathians from the monastery now on their journey to find their lifemates. I am intrigued to see how their stories will be written considering they have been living in seclusion for centuries.

I love the storyline of Val and Liv, it reminds me of the story of Dimitri and Skyler and I am intrigued about reading the build up to their story.
