Liz Lucas Mystery #4

Murder at the Bed & Breakfast

Rate this book
The time has finally come for Liz Lucas, the owner of The Red Cedar Spa, and her long-time boyfriend, Roger Langley, a criminal defense attorney, to get married. What’s not to be happy about that? Well, for starters Roger’s best friend Bob Salazar’s sister-in-law, Laura, is murdered at Cindy’s Bed & Breakfast during the wedding reception. Definitely not a good thing to have happen on your wedding day.

There are plenty of quirky suspects, including the wealthy rancher who’s still in love with Bob’s wife, the smarmy minister who ran against Bob for county supervisor in the recent election, the estranged stepmother of Bob’s wife, Laura’s drug-addicted ex-husband, and Bob’s ex-girlfriend whose family has strong Mafia ties.

Join Liz, Roger, and their dog Winston, as they search for the killer. As always, there are recipes, dogs, and good food. Enjoy!

Murder at the Bed & Breakfast by Dianne Harman is a comfortable and engaging afternoon read. I've enjoyed reading previous books in this series and was looking forward to Liz and Roger's wedding. Ms. Harman's characters and setting draws me into the story as Liz follows the clues to help Seth, the bumbling chief of police solve the murder.

Another great installment in the Liz Lucas Cozy mysteries.

I’ve been reading author Dianne Harman for at least a year now. She has such an interesting way of telling her stories. Often the reader will go from a chapter with the protagonist, to a chapter going back to what led up to the killing. It’s a creative way to tell a story.

The series is one of my favorites out of the many that this author pens. Series lead and namesake, Liz Lucas has been great to read, and watch grow.

MURDER AT THE BED & BREAKFAST was a well written story with an engrossing plot that really grabbed my attention. With a fast flow, I made quick work of finishing this book. But now I have to wait for the next.

For fans of the Liz Lucas series, you are in for a treat! Make sure you check out the fabulous recipes at the back of this book!

In this book Liz and Roger finally get married but the Honeymoon is delayed while Liz solves a murder. Liz gets into trouble by not following Roger's instructions to always take her gun and Winston with her. However, he comes to her aide in a gold-leaf covered room. Thus a happy ending to another Dianne Harman's wonderful cozy mysteries which I enjoy reading.

I enjoyed this book. This is another cozy mystery that keeps you guessing over the motive, as well as the killer. The author gives you a number of suspects perspectives over the reason why the victim needed to die, surprisingly not over something she herself did, before Liz solves the case. This although a bit jumpy, does work well for the story as the suspects slowly get eliminated from the list as you follow Liz after a few red herrings.. The story is full of interesting and often quirky characters which certainly keep it entertaining. This is just a nice easy cozy mystery that you can pick up a book anywhere in the series and know you will lose yourself for a couple of hours in a good mystery.
Liz and Roger's big day has finally arrived and with no guests staying at the B&B, they can sit back and enjoy the perfect wedding. Unfortunately before they can start there honeymoon Roger gets a phone call, his ex work colleague bob and one of the guest at the wedding needs his help. His sister in law was shot and killed in her hotel room while babysitting his young daughter. With Seth still some how sheriff, Liz knows she can't go on her honeymoon and leave the investigation up to him. Especially when Laura's death seems like it only happened so someone could get back at Bob or wife. Were they the real targets? Liz will have to look into a wide range of suspects to find the killer, from a mafia boss's daughter who was dumped to a minister that isn't so squeaky clean, her own ex husband who went into rehab to get her back to even her strange step mum who is still grieving for her husband. Can Liz find the killer? Or will her big day be remembered for all the wrong reasons.
I liked the narrator. She has a pleasant voice that brings character to each of the characters as the mystery is revealed.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This is the 4th in the series. The main characters are Liz and her new hubby Roger. Right after their wedding, they get a call from friends Bob and Renee, who were at the reception. They came back to their rooms after the reception to find Renee's sister was murdered while watching their baby. Liz and Roger jump in to help figure out who did this. Can they figure this out before it's too late to save themselves ?

There’s a lot of interesting characters in this mystery! And many possible suspects. Liz and Roger are finally going to get married. But unfortunately a relative of Roger’s good friend Bob is murdered during their reception. Bob’s wife and Liz decide to do some investigating on their own. Dianne’s mysteries are always fun cozy mysteries. There’s always a dog or more in the story. And she includes recipes as well.

4th book in this series that I started this week - these are fast and easy cozy mysteries. Liz and her new husband Roger are faces with another murder to solve, this one in their wedding day. The sister-in-law of Roger’s good friend has been murdered while babysitting, and there are several suspects worth investigating. As the clues mount, they draw closer to figuring it out but not before Liz almost becomes a victim herself!

I know these are small and you can read them in a few hours but they still grab you throughout the story keeping you reading. This author writes several series and they are equally good. The characters are lovable, you'll root for them throughout the story and the story will keep you reading. Great Reading Everyone!

Liz and Roger have decided to tie the knot and after a lovely ceremony and reception most had left when Roger got a call he hadn't planned on.One of his old friends had gone back to their suite at a bed and breakfast only to find their nanny dead and their baby screaming. Politics and family feuds are discovered., and Liz gets involved in yet another murder. Good addition to the series.

Murder at the Bed and Breakfast is an entertaining cozy mystery. While it is a part of a series, it can easily be enjoyed as a standalone without feeling lost. I appreciate that the main characters are middle aged with grown children and still having adventures. The narrator gave a nice performance.

Stranger Than Fiction

As Liz and Roger say "I do", a murder takes place at the local B&B. They both have the week off for their honeymoon, but push that aside to solve this mystery. The suspect list is lengthy but Liz's niggle is in a quest for answers~

Multiple POVs again about who hated the victim. The author also jumps around in the timeline, your in the present with Liz, but the POVs of the victims enemy's are written at a point far earlier than Liz's daily life.

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.

5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

What a way to spend your honeymoon--trying to figure out who killed Laura. Laura was Roger's friends sister-in-law and a nurse who was caring for their baby when she was shot--just as the marriage ceremony was taking place between Laura and Roger. There are a lot of suspects once again--and it was difficult to figure out who did it. Of course the good for absolutely nothing sheriff was no help what so ever and Liz and Roger had to figure it out. Meanwhile poor Winston, Laura's guard dog was trying to come to terms with this new man who was living with them.

If the way to a man's heart is through his stomach then Laura and Roger will live happily ever after--wait till you see these recipes--IF Laura doesn't decide to go off on a tangent again without telling Roger!! I think Winston is going to have his paws full with these two.

As with the first three books in this series I loved it and now have to wait to see if Dianne's next book is in this series or one of the others. I LOVE THEM ALL!!

Murder, mystery, suspense

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It is the first time I have read any of Dianne Harman's work and I was pleasantly surprised.

It is very well written, no grammatical errors or bad spelling and well punctuated . This is important to me as it is vital for a good reading experience.

The characters are very well fleshed out with excellent descriptives to feed the reader imagination.

It is an excellent murder mystery plot, with the settings and locations described in a manner that makes a seasoned reader feel that they are actually there, watching all the events unfold. Also, there are no gratuitous sexualized scenes, which is a definite plus these days.

The author has exercised such great skills that it is easy to guess who the actual culprit is until you almost get to the end of the book. And there are several suspects who feel aggrieved enough to commit murder as revenge.

An altogether enjoyable read with a good plot and characters.

This was really good, except that the action took place instead of a honeymoon. Still, the story was pretty compelling. The SIL of a friend is murdered while the friend and his wife are at the wedding, and the SIL is taking care of their infant daughter. The suspects range from the victim's druggie ex-husband to her step-mom to a former boyfriend of her sister and a former girlfriend of her BIL as well as the BIL's main political rival for the previous election. You get all the motives first hand from the various suspects during soliloquies in early chapters, including a few red herrings that might lead you to believe that one of the others is the quilty party. Very well done, and an interesting read.

Murder At The Bed & Breakfast: A Liz Lucas Cozy Mystery by Dianne Harman Murder At The Bed & Breakfast: A Liz Lucas Cozy Mystery by Dianne Harman is book four of the Liz Lucas Cozy Mystery series. Liz & Roger are newlyweds in this entertaining book.

On their wedding day, Roger’s best friend’s sister-in-law is murdered. That doesn’t allow for much honeymoon time. The quirky suspects are abundant in this ‘who done it’.

Winston, Liz’ dog can serve as her protector, only if she takes him along. He’s adapting to Roger in his life.

I gave this book four stars & look forward to reading the remainder of Dianne Harman’s books.

Liz Lucas and Roger Langley are getting married. During their wedding, the babysitter for a pair of the wedding guests is murdered. She was Roger's best friend's sister-in-law. There is no shortage of suspects. Dianne Harman takes us into the minds and thoughts of several unsavory characters, any of whom could have done it. Although they should have been on their honeymoon, Liz and Roger undertake to find out who did such a terrible deed. It's a convoluted trip for them, as they wade through clue after clue and dead end after dead end. I didn't see the end coming.
I received my e-copy of MURDER AT THE BED AND BREAKFAST from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I LOVE all of Dianne Harman's books. I especially like this series: Liz Lucas, newly wedded husband, and dogs Winston and Brandy Boy. In this book, Liz gets married and on their wedding night are involved in solving a murder. The sister of one of their wedding guests gets killed. There are many possible suspects as usual, but slowly Liz and her husband eliminate the suspects. Liz gets herself into a predicament that almost costs her life. This book as with the others are easy reading and so very enjoyable. I can't wait for the next Liz Lucas book!

This is my first book by this best selling author. I thought there would be a lot about bed and breakfasts here, but not really. The narrative seems a bit simple initially but I suppose you get used to it as you read on.
The book is fast paced and everything is laid out nice and easy. There is not much speculation needed on the part of the reader. The book has recipes at the end.

There are plenty of possible scenarios for the culprit, and the end is unexpected. Protagonists are 50 somethings who go around carrying guns.
