EN Another very well-executed adventure!

It seems misfortune just won’t let go of Thorgal, and once again he finds himself in a life-or-death situation — this time with his family involved once more, although the focus is mainly on him.

I really enjoyed this story, but I must admit I wasn’t entirely happy with the fate given to the two characters introduced in the previous volume, who had become travelling companions. I understand the author probably had no further plans for them, but even so, I felt they deserved a better ending.

That said, it was still a great read.

It totally reads•on•its•own but I've enjoyed and appreciated the series much more since I began to endure waiting to read->them->in->order. To refresh, there should be a previous<-tome paragraph boxed atop page one to announce the siblings who escaped Atlantis into the desert and into the slavery in which all the protagonists begin.

There's another archery contest for the best, who never loses unless...

Plenty of death ensues in multiple venues!

Rosinski is at his best
I commented about being a bit disappointed with his previous effort which I now feel that he saw the same and tightened up his stroke.

First album of the final 3 story arc by Van Hamme..

In his attempt to go back North, Thorgal and his family are captured as slaves and are sold to another tyrannical empire..

One of the riveting albums of the whole series .. Each page is so compelling and thrilling...
Lot of action, lot of suffering, lot of sadnes and a cliffhanger ending...

Slightly anti-climactic beginning that derails the hopeful ending of the previous issue but the story that follows is amazing otherwise. Thorgal absolutely destroying everybody else when it comes to archery is always fun and this unapologetic cruelty the main characters experience serves the story well. The ending is also quite the cliffhanger, literally.

Sceny mordowania, wieszania i tortur niewolników. Rozważanie sprzedaży młodej niewolnicy do domu publicznego. Poniżanie jej przy innych okazjach, biczowanie i namawianie jej właściciela do gwałtu.

I am not a big fan of Rosinski's art, but this is really bad, even for his standards. It's sloppy and forced. It's a shame, because the story is very good and the art destroyed it.

You’ve got to feel sorry for Thorgal and family. Struggling with the violence and disruption of their northern home they decided to sail south in search of more peaceful and prosperous lands, but to date all they’ve found is selfishness, greed and danger. Having lost their ship they’ve attempted to cross a desert only to be taken as prisoners and sold as slaves in a community analogous to a Roman outpost. Thorgal is bought to be used in a trial for young officers who must hunt him and others down to show off their skill with a bow, giving Thorgal the opportunity to turn the tables on his pursuers. Sparing the life of the Governor’s son, Thorgal is granted a freedom of sorts, working for the Governor to teach others his skills with the bow, and reunited with his family, but to the people of this land he is considered the Barbarian.

Bleaker still, Thorgal’s group picked up two companions recently and they too have suffered at the hands of these so called civilised people, and their tragedy further underscores the dire situation that living under a tyrannical ruler presents. With little hope, and serving at the whim of someone who sees you and your family as little more than objects presents little opportunity for escape. However, while attempting to come to terms with their lot things are about to get a lot worse.

Van Hamme wields another challenging and enthralling script, not letting up for a moment on the pressures and problems presented to the group. Potentially, this could be the most difficult situation Thorgal has faced, infused with loss, pain and anguish all around. Despite everything. Thorgal remains stoic and determined, level-headed and calculating, finding opportunity when there appears to be none – the antithesis of the Barbarian. It may well be one of the worst jams he’s faced, but you can’t count him out yet.

For me these books have maintained a high standard from the outset, defying expectations and avoiding repetition, which means the reader has the genuine prospect of inventive, creative storytelling at every page, and where each new book has the potential to take you somewhere very different. A stand-out series.

W "Barbarzyńcy" ogrzewa się kotlety: Thorgal zmuszony do udziału w turnieju m.in.
