Coral branches rarely wear a wristwatch. That was Jesse McDermitt’s first thought when he found a partially denuded human arm, teeming with crab, lobster, and fish life, during his morning ocean swim. The discovery of a drifting mega-yacht the following day while fishing the Gulf Stream, causes quite a stir among the many alphabet agencies of the federal government, not to mention one shaggy canine. A severed leg and two whole bodies are discovered aboard. The find links the disappearance of the yacht’s owners to the arm Jesse found twenty miles to the north, near his home in the back country of the Florida Keys. Black marketers from Eastern Europe have set up a base of operations too close to Jesse for comfort. The rescue of the yacht-owners takes on national security importance, but it’s even more important to one of Jesse’s closest friends. High speed boats and planes race across the Gulf Stream, causing the Cuban Air Force to become nervous. Will Jesse and his crew reach the victims in time?
I'm a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps and now, a full time novelist. Between those careers, I've also worked as a deckhand, commercial fisherman, divemaster, taxi driver, construction manager, and truck driver. I live in the Sea Islands, near Beaufort, SC, with my wife and youngest daughter. We also have three grown children, five grand children, three dogs and a whole flock of parakeets. I grew up in Melbourne, FL and have also lived in the Florida Keys and Cozumel, MX.
Jesse finds the remains of a human arm while scuba diving. This causes a bit of a stir. When he finds a deserted mega yacht the next day, a regular hornet's nest is stirred, as it belongs to a Big Tech guy with a contract with the intelligence community.
Okay, but I have a hard time feeling sorry for tech billionaires.
If you are a Jesse McDermitt fan, you are going to absolutely love this book. If you are not familiar with him yet, I advise you to start with Fallen Out and continue from there. Fallen Tide will still be here and you will have quit a ride. When you have a really good writer, good support and friends and a beta reader team to keep it authentic, well that is a really good combination. How often do you have a reader suggesting an ending that is a catalyst for the entire story, or a reader so knowledgeable in some of the details he gets his own part? Finally, the author credits Paul Deaver, a fellow author who is about to publish his first book, for the idea of the Predator suit. If you are a follower of Wayne Stinnett, you do not need me to tell you how good his books are. If you have not yet read him, I hope you start with Fallen Out and find out for yourself.
It’s like being with friends and family. Excellent story and I hope it is prescient. Almost ScFi like. What was fiction is now real. Definitely recommend.
Talk about action! This was so exciting I could barely put it down to eat meals. This included kidnapping for ransom and access to secret military equipment. Jesse has built a network of friends and former marines who will fly anywhere to help him out of a bind. Poor Jesse. He retired from 20 years in the marines, a seal, a sniper, and all he wanted to do was spend the rest of his life in the Florida Keyes fishing and boating. These national security matters keep finding him and he can't resist lending a hand.
Dagnabbit Wayne, You Made Me Cry About a Fishing Dog!
This was yet another great Jesse McDermott yarn. I have come to realize that I doing something that I tease my granddau's about, I am bingeing. Although instead of binge watching TV like them I'm binge reading Jesse McDermitt. Jesse is the man that I'd love to be. He's healthy, strong, virile, courageous, honorable, revered and loved by those around him, his ever widening circle of friends and family. I once may have been many of those things but now am just a lonely, broken 60 year old retired Army master sergeant living in constant severe pain... except maybe for a couple of hours a day when I can escape into Jesse's world. Thanks Wayne, for sharing Jesse with me.
'Fallen Tide' was an absolute thrilling and adventurous read. The story line pulled me in, like the previous books in this series, and didn't let go. I loved it. Well written and well played out. The whole premise was incredibly brilliant. Between the action, the thrilling scenarios, the on-the-edge-of-your-seat feeling as the mission unfolded and the amazing characters, this book rocks. I can't wait to read the next book in the Caribbean Adventure Series'. A must add to your tbr list. Recommended read.
What can I say about the wonderful Jesse McDermitt series? I want a boat! Having recently retired and purchased a mobile home in Florida, the series has been an exciting way to learn more about my new state and this is my favorite in the series so far. Though Pescador will be sadly missed, I know he’ll reappear. Cheers to a writer who champions honor and doing what is right, while instilling Florida’s beauty in every page.
If this would be your first book by Wayne Stinnett by all means get it, you'll enjoy it! And the ending will give you a glimmering of the kind of man Wayne is. If you like Fallen Ride and I know that you will, I hope you will soon acquire the rest of the series from the beginning as well as his other series. Yes, he is that good at writing! I own every single book he's published.
Pretty easy for a Marine to read a book with a Marine as the protagonist, and an antagonist when required. The pace, detail and characters all make the series easy to call a "good read". At 91 this Marine is not very active, but Jesse and his associates provide action enough to satisfy my need for exciting activities and enjoyable surroundings. Ready to start the next book in the series, probably tomorrow.
4.5 stars, rounds up. Wondering if various parties will keep in touch. Wondering if the wife's secret will someday be revealed, or if she will leave it buried, carrying forward in the honorable, responsible and non-corrupt manner she has demonstrated in her greater entry to the storylines. I think these remarks won't truly be spoilers, since this could be many characters in the series. But it should be quite clear after those reading from the start of the series will see.

Another of the super easy read Jesse stories so easy on the eye and mind. Brings memories of florda as they pronounce it back so fluently. Like being there on hols again. Keep it up Wayne!
I really enjoyed reading this book from a great storyteller. When I read the Jesse McDermitt stories I feel like I am in the Keys enjoying the weather and beautiful seascapes. Ever since Pescador was first introduced, I thought if I was to get a dog, it would be a Portuguese Water Dog. Oh! The storyline was really good too. Thanks again for another great story!
Fallen Tide brings back all of the characters that we've grown to know so well. Another tale filled with suspense and excitement set with the backdrop of the Florida Keys. If you haven't found Jesse McDermott and his cast of characters, you are missing a great read!
8 into the series and NO DISAPPOINTS! Stinnett is right up there with Connelly, Child's Hurwitz, Clancy etc and deserves (needs?) more recognition.
Seal Team producers should take a look at this series. Seal Team...into the water SOMETIMES. Jesse all the time! Besides who has a dog that catches fish?
This eighth book in this series is the best yet. Thank you Mr. Stinnett, you can always tell when a writer enjoys his writing. Great characters and lots of excitement, kept me on my toes.
I’ve totally enjoyed every single book in this series and knew Jessie would do the right thing but ughhh I wanted to cry or tell Jessie it would be ok.
Another amazing take spin by this author! Fast paced thrilling and mind blowing! An exciting cast of characters that bring the story to life. I encourage you to start reading today
Book number 8 is my favorite Jesse McDermitt adventure! Jesse has several heart wrenching decisions to make that reveal the softer side of an old gunney sergeant.
Wow! I have really enjoyed reading about Jesse McDermitt’s life surrounding the Keys of Florida, the stories keeps you interested in what is going to happen next! It’s a great page turning adventure! I’m ready for the next mission!
The series continues to get better in my opinion from a writing perspective, all the stories have been great but the writers comfort and precision with characters and description keep evolving.
Okay. THIS BOOK is my favorite so far! Lots of action ALL the way through, but with just the right amount of technical boating, reef and flying stuff to satisfy my need to learn. Ya done good, Mr. Stinnett!
The author has total command of a very well thought out plot. The characters are extremely believable yet radiate humanity. I thoroughly enjoyed the privilege of reading it.
I'm quickly making my way through this series. I've lost a lot of sleep in the process. I can't seem to put the books down. If you haven't read this series.... You should.
A great read that really fills the vacancy left when John D MacDonald left us in 1986. Jesse McDermitt has joined Travis McGee and the Busted Flush in my library. Semper Fi !
Love this series, always good stories, good writing, and just worth your time. They just keep getting better, worth your time. Recommended all the books.
