Sarah Woods Mysteries Book 18: The Killer in Me (20 chapters) — Jennifer L. Jennings Oct. 2-3 , 2018
Read as a part of the Sarah Woods Mysteries (Volume 6)
I took a several day hiatus from reading, and when I returned, reading this book felt almost like I was reading a different series. This book is a lot more mature in style and content. I’m not sure I liked it. It feels heavier and now Sarah is carrying a weapon. (That’s not a spoiler because it was mentioned in the beginning.)
I suppose it’s good that this is the end of this book set for those readers that liked the basic plots of the earlier books. You probably could stop here and never be the wiser.
Sarah and Carter are asked to investigate why a man’s wife seems to be acting odd lately, which leads them to posing as a married couple in a swing couples group. The group includes some high society. At the first meet, a participant dies and it suddenly looks suspicion. Was it accidental or was it murder. Sarah figures the mystery out, but as they are apprehending the suspect, she is abducted and she has to figure out how to escape before something happens to her.
The ending of the story is similar to what happened to Carter a few books back, but honestly, this ending feels different and darker.
I am going to take a break from this series and read the offshoot (at least the first book,) and see how that ends before I come back and read the next set (because I am going to read every book in this series—made easy thanks to Amazon Prime Books!)
Carter and Sarah go under cover at a swingers club to spy on an old tycoon’s young wife. Oooh, risqué!
Then an uninvited guest, a hot-shot lawyer with a bad drug and alcohol problem, shows up, gets rough, and is later found dead—naked and surrounded by porn magazines. Was this an erotic suicide…or murder?
Read all of her series, will be ready the Carter series, the 2 of them are so. Pre-order the first of Carter series, in his monologue, should be great!
