Elder Races #8.6

Pia Does Hollywood

Rate this book
After making a diplomatic pact with humankind and the other leaders of the Elder Races, Pia Cuelebre, mate to Dragos Cuelebre, Lord of the Wyr, reluctantly heads to Hollywood to spend a week with the Light Fae Queen, Tatiana, before the busy Masque season hits New York in December. Dragos has never let the lack of an invitation stop him from doing anything he wanted. Unwilling to let his mate make the trip without him, he travels to southern California in secret to be with her. But when an ancient enemy launches a shattering assault against the Light Fae, Dragos and Pia must intercede. The destruction threatens to spread and strike a mortal blow against all of the magically gifted, both human and Elder Race alike. Working with the Light Fae to neutralize the danger, Dragos and Pia find their deepest vulnerabilities challenged and their most closely held secrets threatened with exposure. PIA DOES HOLLYWOOD is the second part of a three-story series about Pia, Dragos, and and their son, Liam. Each story stands alone, but fans might want to read all DRAGOS GOES TO WASHINGTON, PIA DOES HOLLYWOOD, and LIAM TAKES MANHATTAN.

I write paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and other stuff. I taught myself to read when I was four. That was around the time I tried to ride my tricycle to work. I wasn't sure where work was, but I knew it had to be interesting if people went there every day. Now I combine my love of books with work, and I don't have to ride my tricycle to get there. My Elder Races series began May, 2011. You can also find me on Twitter and Facebook!

I just adore Dragos and Pia. So happy to follow them on all their adventures together!

I can't stop saying how much I enjoy Pia and Dragos together. I don't think there is one thing that I don't like about them. T.H. has really created a couple that is there for each other every step of the way. They are both very unique creatures and they are creating a very unique family...one that certainly enchants this reader!

The only problem for me is that this is a novella, however, I sucked it up and enjoyed it anyway. As we knew from the last novella, Pia has to go visit the Light Fae as part of the demesne's agreement. Of course, Dragos can't let her go alone but he can't actually go with her either. Naturally, this undercover, sneaky business appeals to his dragon side all too much.

Unfortunately, things are not peachy in the sunny city and Dragos gets an up close and personal experience. Once again, T.H., manages to evoke such strong emotions and angst in such a few pages. Even though I knew things would work out...I was sweatin' it!

description

My favorite part besides Pia and Dragos is what's going on with Pia. I LOVED her dreams...I cannot wait for that to progress! And I loved the "little" gift Dragos got Pia!

Also, I loved all the bantering going on between Eva and Aryal. It was nice having her and Quentin included in the story.

Things were interesting with Tatiana and Bailey. I'm curious if this will go any further and if we will get more of what Dragos is possibly remembering.

Next up is Shadow's End, out December 1st, with my SECOND FAVORITE, Graydon...I have been waiting forever for his story. And then we get another Liam novella, Liam Takes Manhattan, out December 22nd....the blurb sounds amazing. Perfect for Christmas!

Dragos and his family - STORY 5

“Dragos, I'm beginning to feel like we're travel cursed. Something always happens when we go away.”

Pia goes to Hollywood to spend a week with the Light Fae Queen, Tatiana for diplomatic reasons.
Dragos is once more not invited and once more he doesn’t care. Pia is alone, unprotected and pregnant with his second child.
Although Dragos is still vulnerable after his accident and his partial memory loss (Pia Saves the Day), he will still follow Pia in secret. When he is found out as expected, he will help with a great magic danger that threatens humans and Elders Races.

Recommended if you love and want more Dragos and Pia!

5 Fire Breathing Stars!!

This short novella follows Pia to Hollywood and of course, Dragos isn't far behind. It's interesting to see the dynamics of the world they live in changing and how they handle the circumstances that come their way. Politics aside, these two still have bad for each other, and it's fun to see them mix business with pleasure.

We learned at the end of Dragos Goes to Washington that Pia is again pregnant and in this novella we learn the Wyr form of the child she and Dragos are expecting.

Thea Harrison continues to keep me enthralled with her amazing characters and these fun, quick, and heartwarming novellas giving us a glimpse into the lives of my favorite dragon and his growing family. Looking forward to Liam's novella next, Liam Takes Manhattan.

Didn't like this, the story was boring and pretty much the same as previous novellas with Pia/Dragos being in danger and the other trying to save/fix them.
Pia was beyond insufferable, her and Dragos were both unlikeable and obnoxious with their obsession with each other and how up themselves they were. Everything Pia said or did grated on me, especially her nicknaming her unborn baby Stinkpot, what a dumb nickname. Also, what's with all the pregnancies in the series being all baby boys? What's wrong with baby girls? Actually it's a good job Pia/Dragos are having another boy, they seem like the type that wouldn't care nearly as much if it was a girl.

It's not often that a series keeps getting better and better....but that's exactly what Thea Harrison's Elder Races Series does. Everything I love in romance and paranormal is in this incredibly intriguing world filled with the most diverse supernaturals ever. Dragons, witches, vampyres, unicorns, shapeshifters, fae, humans, goblins, elves and even zombies!!!

Pia does Hollywood is book #8,6 in the series, a novella part of the Cuelebre family trilogy, Dragos Goes to Washington (#8,5) and Liam Takes Manhattan (#9,5)

Now it's Pia's turn to act as diplomat
“She would be taking the company jet to fly to Los Angeles to visit with the Light Fae Queen, Tatiana, for a week.
The diplomatic deal stated that each of the seven U.S. demesne leaders was supposed to send a family member to another demesne to visit for a week to foster good will and peace among the desmesnes'. The whole concept came from a Medieval practice of nobles sending their children to live in other nobles' households as hostages.”
I absolutely adore the development of Dragos, Pia and Liam and the other characters in this stunning series. Dragos and Pia's relationship is such a beautiful one...understanding and being there for each other.... there
 photo 16474083_zps6zwbuxrm.gif

“She smiled and whispered, "I'm kissing you right now."
He swore softly, frustration evident in the snap of his voice. "I'm kissing you too."
With that she had to be content enough to walk away.”
filled with love, passion and totally devoted to each other and their son, Liam.

I so enjoy catching up with characters from the previous books....it's like going on a visit to dear and loved old friends.

This story is filled with action, intrigue...of course.....betrayals...who are your friends??? Who can you trust??? Zombies, fae....dark and light!!!! So much happens in such a short time...it's amazing how much there is in so few pages...and so well done!!!!

And Stinkpot???? OMG!!!! I can't wait!!!

And why I love Dragos & Pia that much????????????

Sometimes you just have to put duty and the bigger picture before personal needs and that's just where this story begins. Pia is about to leave her home and family to spend a week in California with the Queen of the Light Fae. Now technically Dragos is not invited on this diplomatic visit but since when did he ever follow rules? Besides Pia has just discovered she is expecting their second child so no way does she go unprotected. What happens though when it's Dragos in trouble? Oh boy there's definitely something the Light Fae should have mentioned!
I adore these snippets into the lives of the first family of the Wyr. Such a loving ,warm , close knit brood and it's only going to get even more wild with their expected addition. Yes this is short but it felt complete and well rounded. There's danger, surprises and of course passion. If you are already a fan you will have to read this and if new to this author then please I urge you to quickly get on board and enjoy this fabulous series.

I am really enjoying this trilogy of Dragos and Pia novellas! This story really picks up on the heels of "Dragos Goes to Washington." Pia's pregnancy is still a secret and she is preparing for her required trip to visit the Light Fae queen, Tatiana. She is supposed to go alone, but if Dragos just happens to visit California at the same time, she's not really breaking the rules, right?

Anyway, it doesn't take long after the Wyr arrive to realize something very wrong is happening in the Light Fae demense. Their hosts are staying very tight lipped. But when the danger extends to Lord Cuelebre, all bets are off. The Wyr and Tatiana's people must work together, and both must sacrifice some of their secrets to defeat their enemy.

I love how Thea Harrison is continuing Dragos and Pia's story through the timeline of the main novels. It really help makes this series feel like we're seeing different glimpses of one big world... and that the lives of the many characters are moving forward, even off page of the full length books.

I love the fire and devotion that we see in this couple. I love their relationship with Liam, who I find so interesting and engaging. I like seeing the interaction with the Sentinels. I loved meeting Stinkpot and the big reveal on what the baby will be. And I liked the main action plot, too. This isn't "Dragos and Pia Go to the Dentist." There is action and danger, and --did I mention Fae zombies? Plus, I have to say I am intrigued by Morgan. I hope to see more of him and to meet Tatiana's sister down the road.

Definitely worth reading, though I think you should read "Dragos Goes to Washington" first, if you haven't yet.

This was a fun little novella that focused on Pia and Dragos. After reading most of the books in the Elder Races series, I must admit that Pia and Dragos are my favorite couple. They are an unlikely match - Dragos is a big, overbearing, powerful dragon and Pia is a calming influence with a rare Wyr nature. In this installment, Pia is sent to Hollywood to spend a week with the Light Fae Queen per a diplomatic agreement.

There's a lot going on in this short novella (180 pages or thereabouts):
1. We get to see more of Pia and Dragos' happily ever after - they are very much in love and can't keep their hands off each other. Oftentimes when you read a series there is only a brief mention of previous couples. Not here.

2. We learn a bit more about the rivalry between the Elder Races, namely between the Fae.

3. There is a threat to all of the Elder Races and those with magical powers.

This is a must read for Elder Races fans. While the Elder Races series is best read in order, this short novella can be read as a stand alone, just to get a taste of the author's writing.

Thank you to NetGalley and the author for a review copy of this book.

ARC Review:

Dragos is not having a good time. In the last few books, he has had to deal with a dangerous head injury, ensuing memory loss, murder in his DC home, growing alienation with humans, and tension within the Elder Races community. This story has its own set of peril, violence, and political intrigue. The brightest spots come from Pia and Liam.

It’s a gift to get this much storyline from characters introduced in the beginning of a series. It speaks to the popularity of Pia and Dragos’ story (or how much the author loves these two). I love revisiting this duo and am enjoying the direction Thea Harrison is taking Liam’s character. However, what strikes me the most is the intimacy (not just the sexual ones) between the couple. They are embedded in each other. Their interactions are soul deep with intense longing when apart. It’s because we have these added novellas that we get to experience this depth.

Adding Liam and Stinkpot to the mix, makes for a very tight knit family. Ms. Harrison hints at what is sure to be an interesting direction for the foursome. How will the newest addition be the same or different from Liam? What will the relationship be between the two siblings? We expect intrigue and suspense from the Elder Races series, but through the Cuelebres we also get to experience challenging family dynamics as well.

IN A NUTSHELL: This is what makes the Elder Races series so great – fantastic writing, intriguing story lines, and multi-faceted storytelling.

Thank you to the author and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

While Pia is on an official diplomatic mission to the Light Fae Court, Dragos, undercover, is attacked by creatures that are spreading a horrible plague through Tatiana’s kingdom.

It is discovered that Pia, Dragos and all of the Elder Races are at risk from this deadly plague. Not only must they play the political game but they must stop this infection before everyone is at risk.

I absolutely love Pia, Dragos and cast but add in Liam and “stink pot” and I’m completely there.

I just can’t seem to get enough of Thea Harrison’s Elder Races world. Even this short story had me clinging to the pages. If you are a Harrison fan, don’t miss Pia Does Hollywood.

4.5 Stars!

Wonderful story!

Once again Pia and Dragos are caught up in 'crazy' when Pia has to spend a week with The Queen of the Light Fae in California as part of a diplomatic pact agreed upon by the leaders of all the Demesne's
They must fight a zombie type infection before it spreads to all of the Elder races without letting any of their secrets out of the bag.
A very powerful character (Morgan) was also introduced, who I think is going to be a big player in the future.
We also get a glimpse of 'Stinkpot' at the end of the story.
I cannot wait to meet this wonderful addition to the Cuelebre family.

While the Elder Races books should be read in order, this novella is a standalone and a MUST read for fans and an excellent addition to the series.

Part two of the Pia/Dragos/Liam trilogy, and even though it is titled "Pia Does Hollywood", this is as much Dragos' story as it is hers. I love these little snippets into their life together. They always seem to find trouble, and this is no exception. We find out more about our "new" Peanut, and I can't wait to meet the new addition! My only complaint is that it wasn't longer.

Favorite Quote: “If I start slapping people, I may not be able to stop.”

Pia Cuelebre, mate to the Lord of the Wyrs, is on her way to Hollywood to spend a week with Light Fae Queen, Tatiana, after a diplomatic pact is made between all the Elder Races. Though Dragos was not invited, nothing is going to stop him from tagging along to make sure his mate arrives and departs in perfect health.

When an enemy threatens not only the light fae but all the magically inclined, Dragos and Pia find themselves caught in the middle of a feud spanning centuries. As they struggle to defeat the threat looming over them, Dragos and Pia may be forced to reveal some secrets that could further endanger them.

Pia Does Hollywood is the second in a three part novella trilogy that centers around the Cuelebre family. Each novella is based on one person. They can each be read as standalones but are much more fun when read in order. Short and sweet, Harrison delivers full richly detailed stories all centered on a particular problem or issue this family has to deal with.

Once again, Harrison uses Dragos and Pia’s strong relationship and formidable personalities to help save the day when Dragos is injured by an old enemy of Tatiana’s who unleashes a deadly plague on the Light Fae. A plague that infects anyone with a hint of magic in them. Mystery and intrigue blend together with previous storylines as secrets concerning Dragos and Pia are threatened with exposure while new plotlines are introduced in order to prepare us for the next full length Elder Races novel. We learn more about Tatianna, her past, and how Dragos plays a part in it. A part he cannot remember.

The conflict resolves in a believable manner as a new character makes an appearance that has Dragos and all of the Light Fae wondering just how far this enemy will go to destroy Tatianna and her people. As always I love these intimate little glimpses into our favorite Elder race family & I am looking for ward to the third novella in the trilogy-Liam Takes Manhattan (12/22).

Such fun! A silly little zombie tale with elves. The best part of the books are the sexy times with Pia and Dragos and seeing the Harpy and Quentin.

The very best part is the reveal about the new baby but you have to read to find out all those details.

Go do that!

Awful cover.
Awful title (nop, it is not Erotica).
Dragos at his normal caveman-self.

He said between his teeth, “I hate decisions by consensus.”
“I know,” she crooned. “You handle it so much better when you can be an absolute dictator, don’t you, honey? It’s been very hard on you since the planet has become so populated, and we’ve all had to learn to get along together sometimes.”
“Well,” he said, his tone truculent. “It has.”

Well, Pia goes to L.A. to fullfil the accord between the Elder Races to stay a week in other demesne to cultivate 'goodwill'. In this case with the Ligh Fae.
As usual, is not a relaxing trip, so bad things happens . And let me tell you I'm still baffled asking : that was a joke?, a wink-wink to the ole Hollywood variety? (Aka Mitti is not amused with the )
About the romance, when you start to skip pages to avoid the sex part, you know all is over for you. Is not that Dragos is a bad man , but the 'Mine' thing, even with antidiluvian characters, is not for me (imagine that!)

The best:
(Stinkpot)
We know more about the new baby Culebre.

And we have a tiny wee glimpse to new antagonist.
A thing that is starting to bother me in the series is that all the serious stuff , debates and agreements, take place behind the scene , we don't see it, just tell about it later. So, not good enough.

At times like this, when he was enraged and civilization had fallen completely away, he thought he could burn down the world and never miss it.

3.5 stars. Gosh how I love Dragos & Pia. I love their ever continuing story, I love that we see what happens after the HEA, I love that they're learning how to be with one another and how to raise a family. I love it all. And while novellas are often times short and unsatisfying, I never feel that way about Thea Harrison's novellas. She almost always delivers quantity and quality. That's the good part.

The bad part is the vacation from hell trope Harrison insists on using AGAIN AND AGAIN. It is a constant fall back for her, and it is getting tiresome. They take a vacation, vacation goes bad, they learn more about each other and their relationship, defeat villain/fix problem, cute kid moment, fin. Harrison's writing is beautiful, filled with intelligence and woven together with fragile threads that when pulled together, create a masterpiece. I wholeheartedly believe she is talented enough to give us more than the reused disaster vacation storyline.

Though this one annoying bug dulled my enjoyment a bit, I still enjoyed a glimpse into Pia & Dragos life. Overall, a nice adventure in the Elder Races. I can't wait for the final novella in the trilogy.

This story was not as good as the first in this 3 story arc, there were several things left hanging and the amount of sex for the length of this story was just page filler (or seemed maybe practice for writing hot passionate scenes).

It should have been titled Dragos meets The Walking Dead since that is the vibe it gave off, there are a lot of things happening and I can;'t wait for the 3rd part of this trilogy Liam Takes Manhattan but the reason for the 4 Stars instead of 5 is more the things that were NOT answered but some of that is put off by the introduction of a new mysterious character who I wonder if we will see in the third book, he seems to be more of a person that will get a whole novel dedicated to him.

Bottom Line: Great story, could not put it down. Too many "what about ..." and "What happened to ..." questions to be considered 5 Star but that does not make this any less of a highly recommended story to read. Grab it now or wait to read all three together but make no mistake, you DO want to get these books.

Well that was unexpected!

Was this another Dragos/Pia book or a cheesy B movie?

The characters were great as usual and I gobbled up their interactions, but the plot has some glaring holes. Still, I enjoyed the F*** out of it!

Pia must visit LA, the kingdom of the light Fae queen, Tatiana, as a gesture of goodwill among the Elder races. Once she gets there, she and her team start to notice that all is not as it should be.
Many secrets are at risk of being revealed to the nosy Fae queen.

Morgan, the H from 'Spellbinder', is introduced here. Can't say as I like him but he is definitely intriguing.
I listened to the audiobook, and Sophie Eastlake does a fabulous job yet again!

Zombies...zombies...zombies everywhere!! It's a night (or day?) of the living undead. Except..we don't talk about Nightkind demesne. More like zombie Fae. Poor those Light Fae :(.

Get a glimpse to Tatiana's past. Poor her. Her evil twin, Isabeau is nasty! I'm glad that both Bailey and Melisande is still in good term, consider what happen to them in Midnight's Kiss. I wonder if Bailey show up in the Wicked, Sebastian Hale's novella. I read it years ago, so I'm not sure.

I think Isabeau will be the main antagonist for Harrison's Moonshadow series. One of her Hounds, Morgan the Fae already introduced in this novella. I wonder who he might be, since he can't be affected by Dragos's fire and everyone knows Dragos is older than dirt.

Can I hope that maybe Ferion will be with Bailey? Tatiana seems to brush off the new Elven lord. I wonder why.

Also, WHY WORST THING ALWAYS HAPPEN IN PIA'S STORY?? This chick is trouble magnet. First, Dragos got amnesiac in Pia Saves the Day, now Dragos got infectious. It like what Pia said at first is true..her travel indeed had cursed. But...actually the problem is not too dire like amnesiac Dragos. If you can say the probability of Dragos become zombie is not dire. But c'mon.

Love the scene with Stinkpot. I always wonder why Liam is so good natured while his Wyr form taken after Dragos. Seems like its come from Pia. Stinkpot is more like Dragos in power and temper. Can't wait for this little bundle to come off. Anyway..Pia and Dragos is..very fertile *snort*. I almost envy them.

Welp..always loved to read about Cuelebres family. They are indeed..adorable. And I also find Pia to be tolerable. Shocking, I know.
