Internet sensation Grumpy Cat reluctantly approves these feline-oriented knitting projects. Clear directions and well-illustrated patterns, accompanied by color photographs, explain how to make a fabulous assortment of sweaters, toys, and accessories for you and your favorite kitties. In addition to being wonderful handmade gifts, these projects are great keepers, too. You can make a hat and scarf for a cat as well as one for a human companion, sweaters for children and adults graced by the cantankerous cat's face, a cat cowl, and a Grumpy plush. For around the house, there's a washcloth, pillow cover, and coffee sleeve. And for your feline friends, there are cute collars, toys, a cushy bed, and more.
Grumpy Cat (born April 4, 2012), real name Tardar Sauce, is a female cat and Internet celebrity known for her grumpy facial expression. Her owner Tabatha Bundesen says that her permanently grumpy-looking face is due to feline dwarfism.
Princess Fuzzypants here: First a disclaimer. Being a cat, I do not have opposable thumbs therefore I cannot knit, sew or crochet. Being that Momma has ten thumbs and is a klutz, neither can she. Neither of us has been able to test the patterns in the book but we can look at the designs. If mew are a fan of Grumpy Cat, as we are, mew will find the projects anything but miserable. They are adorable and sweet and I wish Momma was less of a klutz because I might have rethought my anti-clothing stance. They are that cute. I give this book five purrs and two(opposable thumbless) paws up.
This was irresistably cute. Grumpy Cat has become popular as an Internet meme and this book gives several patterns for putting his iconic face on sweaters, assessory cases and household items as well as patterns to dress up your cat in hats and scarves or to make him toys! There's a plush Grumpy cat, a human hat with his ears and a cat scarf with knitted head and tail to take your own grumpy cat out in cold weather and give him something to complain about.
The patterns are not overly complicated and should be no problem for a medium level knitter. I'm wondering if the cat cowl might even be useful for shorthaired cats who want to go outside despite cold winter weather, in supervised conditions of course. I'm sure a free roaming cat would waste no time in losing it!
The style of the cat bed particularly appeals to me, especially as the chances of my cat's hair getting knitted into it while I make it are very high. There are sixteen patterns for cute and useful items which doesn't seem like a lot, but they are unique and adorable and I expect to make several of them!
Fantastic book, and what a great cover. There must be so much love for Grumpy Cat it makes you wonder why Grumpy is so Grumpy! The book contains knitting ideas for yourself and for your grumpy feline friend…..but if they are really grumpy why bother, just knit the things for yourself! Patterns are great and instructions are great. I’m off to knit my own grumpy cats some grumpy toys! If you’re a cat fan buy it and learn to knit, if you’re a knitting fan buy it and buy a cat while you’re at it…either way you’ll love it!
Grumpy Cat - the beloved internet sensation knows that no cat lover can go without publicizing their adoration for their feline idols. Luckily for us humans, there is this new book full of projects for ourselves and our feline friends. If you can knit, this book is for you. Many of the projects are easy enough that even beginning knitters will be pleased with the results. The instructions are clearly written - a must for any craft book. Yarn suggestions are included as well.
Whether you are looking to create feline wearables for yourself or to make toys and accessories for your cats, Grumpy Cat’s Knitting Nightmares is a great selection.
5/5
I received a copy of Grumpy Cat’s Knitting Nightmares from the publisher and netgalley.com in exchange for an honest review.
Received via Netgalley in exchange for a fair review.
It should be obvious why I requested this book. A) Knitting! B) GRUMPY CAT! What's not to love, right?
I figured this was going to be cat-related patterns, including charted images for patterns featuring grumpy cat. What I did not expect in the least was pictures of Grumpy Cat wearing the knitted objects.
YOU GUYS.
If you love Grumpy Cat but don't knit, you need this book. If you knit, but don't care about Grumpy Cat (you monster), you need this book.
The patterns are fun, and fresh, and varied. The pictures are giggle worthy.
Why are you still reading this instead of going to get the book?
This is a wonderful book full of amazing knitting patterns based on my hero! They are straightforward and fun to produce. If you haven't got a cat, knit for those who have or indulge yourself! Very highly recommended. I was given a digital copy of this book by the publisher Dover Publications via Netgalley in return for an honest unbiased review.
One of the cutest how to books I have ever read. Not only do I want to engage all of these projects, but my son has decided he would like to also. How would have thought it would be a mother-son bonding experience.
Fun and clever pattern book. I found the pattern directions to be clear and patterns in a good range of difficulty - something for every level. Photos and captions added to the fun. I will give these a try! Thank you to NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
Photos of a real cat make this book fun. Grumpy Cat has several books available. I chose this one because it is knitting. The photos of him wearing the garments are perfect...no cat should be made to wear anything we knit and he lets you know that in no uncertain terms. There was nothing in here that I wanted to make, except maybe the catnip mice. It is a unique shape...not the usual mouse shape. I would, however, crochet it.
Get this book from your public library rather than buying it. If you love all the patterns, then buy it.
I miss Tardar Sauce aka Grumpy Cat. Some how I hadn’t seen this knitting book. But that has now changed. There are some cute patterns in it.
Probably not any that I will make. Other than maybe the cat ear hat. But it was cute and the photos were clear and the patterns looked written/charted well.
I miss Grumpy Cat and seeing this book made me realize how beautiful her coloring was! Although there aren't any projects that I'd knit up from this book, I thought several projects would be good with a few tweaks. Plus, I expected more kitty outfits but there is a good range of projects here: cat bed and toys, electronics cases, accessories for humans.
I received a free copy from Goodreads giveaway. This is a wonderful book with great knitting ideas. I am not a knitter but gave this book to my daughter; looking forward to seeing her knit these projects. Grumpy cat just looks less grumpy in a cowl.
I tried to review the ARC via Netgalley but there was a corruption in the file causing the formatting to be all jumbled and giant. Tried it on two different devices using two different softwares.
This looks like a funny, awesome book suited to a quirky knitter such as myself, but I can't be sure as was unable to read it.
Not impressed. I love cats and I love knitting, so this should have been a match made in heaven. The first few patterns were for rubbish items that I wouldn't even be for the charity bin. The patterns rely on grumpy cat and aren't that complex - worth having a go at doing the colour chart yourself, rather than buying the book. Thumbs down from me.
