This is a “tribute” of the sort that constantly reminds one of Eton, army stints, cakes, coffee business escapes, the tickles and how lovely a man Johnners was. It was probably meant to tire you so much that even the philistinism of the “desert island” list and the knowledge related to Johnners’ link to Daphne du Maurier that it imparts aren’t quite enough…

Test Match Special has increasingly become part of my summer as I've got older but my TMS is the one of Aggers, Blowers, Boycott & Michael Vaughan. This book is a celebration of the life of a broadcaster from an earlier vintage - Brian Johnston. I never heard 'Jonners' on the radio but this is a decent celebration of a big name broadcaster, the likes of which we just don't produce anymore.
