About the author

Award winner French photographer Veronique Vial’s first celebrity portraits appeared in A Day in the Life of Hollywood (Harper Collins). Since, Vial has published several titles, which became highly popular in the United States and Europe. Her books include: Cirque du Soleil (Rizolli), Women Before 10 AM (powerHouse Books), Wings (Arena Publishing) and “O” Cirque du Soleil (powerHouse Books), Men Before 10 am too! (powerHouse Books), Hollywood Splash (powerHouse Books), naked paris (Shirmer-Mosel) backstage (Assouline) and a fund raising book: cowgirls in english saddle .


With the success of Women Before 10 AM, Vial appeared on several television programs such as the “Oprah Winfrey Show” and the “Today Show”. With the release of Hollywood Splash, Vial was interviewed exclusively for “Extra” and “CNN ”.

Her work appeared in Vanity fair, Conde Nast Traveler, Rolling Stone, Harpers Bazaar, Paris Match, French Elle, London Sunday Times Magazine, Venice Magazine. She shot advertisement campaigns for longines, Patek philippe, Nestle, Johnson's, Dove and Mexx among others.
Vial has exhibited her work at the prestigious “Visa Pour l’Image” in Perpignan, France, and Fahey/Klein Gallery in Los Angeles. She is the recipient of the APA award and a World Press Award.

James Franco shaving his armpits; Patrick Bachau sitting in a metal tub; Seth Green in bed with his Golden Retrievers; Patrick Dempsey cleaning wax out of his ears; Neal McDonough with his wide-eyed puppy; Neil Patrick Harris with his mouth full; Anthony Stewart Head eating a banana with a big grin; Marc Blucas chugging from a milk container with the fridge door open; Laird Hamilton brushing his teeth; Arthur Miller sipping from a tea cup: all found within Vial's second collection of men before ten. There is a simplicity and frankness found within her portraits that make them less a collection of famous people than a collection of people who happen to be famous.

Kathleen and I opened and read through this in about 30 minutes. Great B&W photographs of various celebrities before they'd been accosted by stylists, etc. Brendan Fraser clearly did not care if he was "done up" in the morning or not - all he cared about was the coffee in his French press.

The only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars is that I would've liked a bit more written context with each picture, something to flesh the story out a bit more.
