An interesting little 'study' of Stokowski the conductor, as conductor, dispensing with the usual gossip and descriptions of his life to describe the career and the discography only. Of some historical interest because Stokowski was still alive when it was written, although nearly at the end of days. It's a nifty little book, offering sound judgments on most recordings. The author greatly admires Stokowski but effectively balances criticism of his often poor judgment in altering scores and his mediocre recordings of much of the standard repertoire with enthousiasm for his immense skill as conductor and his many great performances, especially of lesser known works.
