When faced with two fears, you run from the one that frightens you most, at least that is what Anneliese Carson did. At almost sixteen years old she chose to slip silently away after her mother died and go on a search for her Uncle Virgil in Oregon. She started out from a small town near Chicago with a wagon filled with only enough to help her survive and not be too burdensome for the old draft horse. Her greatest help came from three Colonels she met along the way, that and the handsome scout for the army.
Jean Kuhnke is a prolific writer, and I have read all her books. I decided to review this one because it's one of my favorites. She writes about courageous young women who strike out on their own due to tragic circumstances or family that doesn't act like family. These young women learn all kinds of coping skills and how to live in the wild. Annaliese escaped a brutal father and headed to origin. She proves her courage and kindness many times over, and gains the great respect of soldiers and captains at Forts along the way.
She was sad that her mother was ill and according to the doctor she was not long for this world. Her so called father was a drinker and not a provider. She overheard his drunken comments to another man one night that he’s going to get rid of her as soon as his wife passed. Oh she needed a plan. Very careful and thought out plan. This author tells wonderful stories. Look for her books.😊
Annaliese knew what she had to do to survive and that took more determination and perseverance then could be expected of a seventeen year old. All these qualities earned the respect of the people she met and the love of one man. Beautiful story!
I enjoyed this book. Anneliese was one tough lady. She sets out on a long and difficult journey by herself - wow. I definitely recommend this book and would gladly read more by this author.
When Two Hearts Collide by Jean L. Kuhnke. What a wonderful story. The young traveling to find an uncle escaping an abusive father. Meets along the way people to call friends and the love of a lifetime.
OK. Trip to Oregon. The male love interest was uninteresting. They should have done something useful with the money, rather than spend it all on themselves.
When Two Hearts Collide, gripped me from the beginning with the sadness of Anneliese situation, the suspense, and then the wonderful romance. The descriptions were so vivid they kept me imagining the trail and feeling the weight of the hardships along the way.
This story also inspired me. I was amazed how much Anneliese knew how to do on her own. Her knowledge helped her and others survive. Simple things that made me wonder how I didn't know about them before. In the end though what impressed me the most was her determination to go on no matter what came her way.
Throughout her struggles she doesn't leave her faith behind. She depends heavily on God to help her through many situations.
A wonderful, wonderful book. It was one of those books that made you feel like you need to get up and do something!
The young Analiese fled from her home in Chicago, with everything she could take for the long journey to her Uncle Virgil in Oregon. She is a very resourceful young lady and a very capable traveler. I read this in one day, could not stand to wait to see how it all turned. A very good happy ever after story.
This story read like a fairy tale as the young woman traveled by wagon by herself across country in late 1800's with all she was capable of doing by herself and how well everything turned out. There were some tense times in the last third of the story.
Some editing is needed. In the last half of the story there were sentences that had wrong words which caused me to have to re-read for understanding. Some transitions weren't smooth between paragraphs. Sometimes I couldn't figure out who was speaking as well and had to re-read.
